Although the pathway wasnot easy, these graduates adapted and overcame many obstacles toachieve this milestone.And here we are. They have made it, and it is now time to memorializetheir achievement! BLACKHAWK TECHNICAL COLLEGECommencement 2022Stephanie Hanson2021-22 Alumna of the YearStephanie Hanson is the 2022 recipient of the Blackhawk Technical CollegeDistinguished Alumni Award for her work both inside and outside of theclassroom. Stephanie’s journey to become a teacher began as a volunteer in herson’s Head Start classroom when the teacher noticed Stephanie’s natural skillsand encouraged her to pursue a degree in education.Her first step was at Blackhawk where she graduated from the Early ChildhoodEducation (ECE) program. She then continued to receive her bachelor’s degreein Early Childhood Education and Special Education from the University ofWisconsin-Whitewater. Stephanie taught at Merrill Elementary for about sevenyears where the principal, Brandye Hereford, described Stephanie as a studentcentered leader who goes beyond expectations. Stephanie is now a teacher atPowell Elementary School.Last summer, Stephanie was awarded the Beloit Rotary Educator of the Monthfor her outstanding work. Like most teachers, she puts her heart and soul intowhat she does every day.

BLACKHAWK TECHNICAL COLLEGECommencement 2022Amy Powell2021-22 Wisconsin TechnicalCollege System (WTCS) AmbassadorAmy Powell is a student in Blackhawk’s Human Resources program andthe 2021 Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Ambassador, whichincluded a one-year term in which she and other ambassadors fromWisconsin technical colleges were called upon to make special appearances,give presentations and participate in various events on behalf of the WTCS.Amy has been recognized by her instructors for her tenacity, perseveranceand grit. As a non-traditional student pursuing her degree in a pandemic, thejourney has not been absent of challenges. But those challenges have notprevented her from getting involved and trying new things.A member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the national honor society, Amy ran forthe PTK International Office Division III Vice President position in April andwas the runner-up. Amy also is a member of the Business Professionals ofAmerica and has helped organize the annual Blackhawk Student GovernmentAssociation Toy Drive. Last spring, Amy was inducted into the NationalSociety of Leadership and Success (NSLS). Amy is a great role model as herdedication and drive are visible in all she does.

BLACKHAWK TECHNICAL COLLEGECommencement 2022Dustin Williams2021-22 Faculty of the YearDustin Williams is the 2021-2022 Faculty of the Year, an honor bestowed tohim from the student body for his outstanding leadership in agriculture. Dustinhas been an agribusiness and farm management instructor at Blackhawkfor nearly 14 years. He teaches classes in soils, plants, animals, nutrients,agribusiness, agricultural commodities, pest management and more.Dustin holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Master of Sciencein Agricultural Education – both from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Hehas been a key player in the growth of Blackhawk’s Monroe campus, especiallythe rebuilding and expanding of the College’s agricultural program and theconstruction of a 3,200-square-foot agribusiness lab.Dustin’s approach to the agribusiness program is based on community andindustry needs and expectations. The most gratifying part of his career, he said,is seeing his students grow and succeed.
