University MissionWe are a university with preeminence in transdisciplinary, experiential professional education, research and discovery, delivering exceptional value for 21st century students with excellence inarchitecture, business, design, fashion, engineering, health science, and textiles infused with theliberal arts.

And then we learnedanything can happenWherever you think your life and career are going, it will not be a straight line. If the COVIDpandemic has proven anything, it is that anything can happen! That’s why I believe creativity, collaboration and optimism are the keys to the future of your profession and your career. But that’s the future. The fact is that today, this is all about you and congratulations, you did it!Your commencement is a profound accomplishment that happens to be at an extraordinarytime. You are, I believe, stepping into a world that needs leadership, that needs professionalism, that needs empathy, and most of all, that needs you.The Class of 2021 graduates are at a critical moment in history. I love the advice StevenSpielberg offers anyone graduating during this pandemic:“One of the things this moment is teaching us is that truly anything is possible. It will beimagination and innovation that gets us to the other side. This is a time of huge loss, but it’salso a chance to dream big about our futures together.”He’s right. I hope you graduate believing in yourself, and believing in the power of imaginationand innovation to get us to the other side. The faculty worked hard to build Jefferson’s effective hyflex education model and youresponded beautifully. In fact, this approach enabled you to learn in a mode that will beincreasingly how you’ll work.My great hope is that we will all learn from this pandemic. We will learn that our greatestpower is human connection, whether in person or virtual. That while science will overcomethis virus, it is the human spirit that will sustain us, and drive us to create a better world. Inour yearning for time with friends and collaborators, I believe we’ll know even more deeplythe power of creativity, communication and empathy.Thank you for your amazing work finishing this academic year and congratulations on youraccomplishments.Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBAPresident, Thomas Jefferson UniversityCEO, Jefferson Health
