The maximum full-timestudent program for a semester is 18 unitswithout a physical education class and19 units with a physical education class.The maximum program of study for a sixweek summer session is eight units. Themaximum program for an eight-weeksummer session is nine units if one unit isphysical education. For the winter term,the maximum program of study is sevenunits. A student wishing to take more thanthe maximum units may file an OverloadPetition through the Admissions &Records Office. Students must havecompleted at least 15 transferable unitsin one semester at Compton Collegewith a 2.75 grade-point average andan overall grade-point average of 2.5or higher to be eligible for an overload.Fees and Fee HoldsStudents are required to pay feeswithin ten (10) days of their enrollmentin courses (AR-5031). A non-paymenthold may be placed on a student recordif registration fees are past due. Thishold will prevent the student fromregistering or adding additional coursesfor the next and/or future semesters.Removing a Fee HoldTo register for classes in an upcomingsemester or intersession, all fees mustbe paid before registration begins. If under the age of 18, students willqualify if they have 1) graduated fromhigh school or 2) passed the CaliforniaHigh School Proficiency Examination.Compton College may admit as a specialpart-time or special full-time studentanyone in grades 11 or 12 who, in theopinion of the college president, maybenefit from instruction.Concurrently enrolled 11th- and 12thgrade students must comply with allpolicies, follow all procedures, andmeet all requirements by the publisheddeadlines for each semester and/or term.AttendanceStudents who enroll in a class butdo not attend the first scheduled classmeeting may be dropped from the roster.Additionally, their place in the class will begiven to students on the waiting list. If anillness or emergency prevents a studentfrom attending the first class session, thestudent must contact the instructor. Astudent who registers for a class and neverattends is still responsible for dropping theclass. Failure to properly drop a class by theappropriate deadline may result in a “W”and may hold the student responsible forany and all fees associated with the class.The burden of proof is on the student.California ResidencyCalifornia State Assembly Bill 540(AB540) allows any student who meetsall of the following requirements to beexempt from paying nonresident tuitionat California Community Colleges, theCalifornia State University (CSU), and theUniversity of California (UC).1. The student must have attended a highschool (public or private) in Californiafor three or more years or have attainedcredits equivalent to three or moreyears of high school coursework and acombination of three or more years ata California elementary or secondaryschool and2. The student must have graduatedfrom a California high school(public or private) or attained theequivalent (e.g., General EducationalDevelopment - GED or California HighSchool Proficiency Exam) prior to thestart of the term at Compton College.A student who meets the aboverequirements must file an affidavit with theAdmissions & Records Office at ComptonCollege stating that he/ she has anapplication to legalize his/ her immigrationstatus or will file an application as soon ashe/she is eligible to do so. In addition to theaffidavit, the student must also provide anofficial high school transcript that clearlyshows attendance in all semesters andthe date of high school graduation. If thestudent attended more than one Californiahigh school, then official transcripts fromall high schools must be provided. If thestudent graduated through equivalencyas mentioned above, then proof must beprovided.Student information obtained in thisprocess is strictly confidential unlessdisclosure is required under the law.Students who meet the criteria willbe exempted from the payment ofnonresident tuition but will not beclassified as “California Residents.”Students will continue to be classified as“Nonresidents.” Students who are in theUnited States under a student or visitorvisa are not eligible.Drops and WithdrawalsIt is the student’s responsibility to processan official withdrawal from class. Failureto do so may result in a letter grade of Athrough F. A student who fails to properlyregister or add a class will NOT receive creditfor that class. Adding after the deadlineis prohibited. If a student drops after therefund deadline, fees for the classes areforfeited. Any class subsequently addedwill require additional fees.Students who want to transfer toa different section must complete aSection-Level Transfer form located onlineat s/Forms.aspx.Student RecordsCongress has provided in the “FamilyEducation Rights and Privacy Act” (FERPA)that students have certain rights ofaccess to their education records. A copyof the Act is located in the Library. Pleasecontact the Admissions and RecordsOffice for any information regarding yourrights under the Act.High School StudentsBy law, Compton College may restrictK-12 enrollment based on any ofthe following: age, grade, academicpreparation,seatavailabilityorregistration priority. Compton Collegewill grant college credit for completedcoursework. Students should consult theirschool counselor and/or school districtpolicy on enrolling in college classes toearn high school credits or dual credit.Students - When you enroll in classesat Compton College, you are considereda college student and are expectedto act accordingly. Please familiarizeyourself with Compton College policies,procedures, the college calendar, andyour rights as a student by reading theclass schedule and purchasing a collegecatalog from the Bookstore.Parents - when your child enrolls inclasses at Compton College, you lose somerights afforded you by the K-12 system.
