2transcriptsDEFINITIONOfficial vs. Unofficial TranscriptsA transcript is the officialrecord of your activities atan academic institution. It iscreated only after you earn acredit in a course;in-progress courses are noton a transcript. The lasttranscript you get from aninstitution, if things go asyou plan, will includeinformation about thedegree earned.Unofficial transcripts can begenerated by a user on a schoolwebsite, or they are printed andgiven to students for immediateuse until an official transcript isgenerated. They say “unofficial.”Official transcripts are sentdirectly from the school to therequested place, not handled bythe student requester at all, andare therefore not able to be“tampered with.”

5Indiana College Core (STGEC)To earn the IN College Core, you mustsend your transcripts from otherschools, likely IU, to Ivy Tech. When youorder your transcripts from IU, you’llneed to put in a recipient email address.Send transcripts TO Ivy Tech byemailing them totranscripts@ivytech.edu

7Admittance to Higher EdDecide to send transcripts AFTER talking to an admissions officer atyour college.ALL INDIANA STATE SCHOOLS MUSTTAKE THESE CREDITS1. The non-state school may not take the credits, so you might bewasting your time to send them.2. Verify that the grades either do or do not affect your overall GPAand then send accordingly (i.e. you might not want to have a C ina dual-credit course calculate into your college GPA)
8Knowing what classes you took:1. MyIvy at Ivy Tech has all your courses and gradesfrom that school. (you have your username andPW in an email, or call the helpdesk) MHS does not have your email info/PW2. One.IU.edu has that info for IU (you have yourusername and PW in an email, or call thehelpdesk)3. The Indiana Core Transfer Library (CTL) locatedat transferin.net has information about what theclass at IU or Ivy Tech “crosswalks to” at otherschools and vice versa. (i.e. Ivy Tech Eng 111 IUEng W131)
9Admittance to Higher EdA transcript usually costs money, so makesure you have the mailing or email addressright, that the grades you want reflectedhave posted, and that the courses you wantto transfer will, in fact, count.
10Admittance to Higher EdMany schools require your SIGNATURE aswell as payment. For example IU requiresthat after you fill out the online form andpay, that you PRINT a signature page andFAX/MAIL it to the Registrar.You can also WALK IN to the Registrar atIUSB and Ivy Tech and order and pay for atranscript.

12STGEC & Reverse Transfer1. If you earn the STGEC certificate in high school, youmust transfer your credits from AP and IU to IvyTech. They give the STGEC certificate.OR2. Transfer credits back to Ivy Tech after your firstyear/semester of college and get the STGEC
13Timing your transcript1. To earn the STGEC before graduating, you must finishthe courses in the FALL semester and transfer yourcredits to Ivy Tech AFTER grades post (January)OR2. To earn the STGEC before you start college(late June), you must finish the courses inthe SPRING semester and transfer yourcredits to Ivy Tech AFTER grades post(May)Do it right and pay ONCE!
14Reverse TransferLet’s imagine you earned 23 college creditsin high school and go off to college. Youplan to stay and earn your 4-year degree, sowhy care about the STGEC anymore? Life isfull of unexpected things, and making sureyou have the STGEC will ensure that youhave an earned, higher-ed credential (not“just some credits”).
15To do:1. Log into your accounts at IU, Ivy Tech, and AP2. Determine if you have the right courses for theSTGEC (use the CTL to help yourself if necessary)3.
