become their4 God and they will become my true and righteous people. 18 And Iwill neither abandon them nor become alienated from them, for I am Yahwehtheir God.”19 Then Moses fell prostrate and prayed, and said, “Yahweh my God, do notallow your people and your inheritance to wander in the error of their hearts. Anddo not deliver them into the hands of the nations, lest they should rule over themand cause them to sin against you. 20 May your mercy, Lord, be lifted over yourpeople. And create in them an upright spirit. And do not let the spirit of Belial ruleover them to accuse them before you, and to ensnare them away from every pathof righteousness, with the consequence that they might be destroyed from yourpresence. 21 But these are your people and your inheritance, whom you haverescued from the hand of the Egyptians by your great power. Create in them apure heart and a holy spirit. And do not let them be ensnared by their sins fromnow to eternity.”22 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “I know their contrary nature, their way ofthinking, and their stubbornness. They will not listen until they acknowledge theirsins and5 the sins of their forefathers. 23 And after this they will return to me in afully upright manner and with all their hearts and all their souls. And I will cutaway the foreskins of their hearts and the foreskins of the hearts of their seed. AndI will create a holy spirit in them, and will purify them in order that they may notturn away from me from that day to eternity. 24 And their souls will adhere to meand to all my commandments. And they will perform my commandments. And Iwill become their father and they will become my children. 25 And all of themwill be called children of the living God. And every messenger and every spiritwill know them. Indeed, they will know that these are my children and that I amtheir father in an upright and righteous way, and that I love them.26 “Now write down for yourself6 all these words which I will tell you on thismountain: what is first, and what is last, and what is to come during all thedivisions of the times which are in the law and which are in the testimony and inthe weeks of their jubilees until eternity, until the time when I descend and dwellwith them throughout all the ages of eternity.”27 Then he told a messenger of the presence, “Write for Moses about theperiod from the beginning of the creation until the time when my holy-place isbuilt in their midst throughout the ages of eternity. 28 And Yahweh will appear inthe sight of all, and all will know that I am the God of Israel, the father of allJacob’s children, and the king on Mount Zion for the ages of eternity. Then Zionand Jerusalem will become holy.”29 And the messenger of the presence, who went before the Israelite camp, took the tablets which told of the divisions of the years, from the time that the lawand the testimony were created—for the weeks of their jubilees, year by year intheir full number, and their jubilees from the time of the creation until the time ofthe new creation when the heavens and the earth, along with all their creatureswill be renewed like the powers of the heavens and like all the creatures of theearth, until the time when the temple of Yahweh will be created in Jerusalem onMount Zion, 30 and all the luminaries will be renewed for the purposes ofhealing, health, and blessing for all the elect ones of Israel, and so that it mayremain this way from that time throughout all the days of the earth.THE DIVISION OF THE TIMES(a.k.a. JUBILEES orLITTLE BEGINNING)PROLOGUEThese are the words regarding the divisions of the times of the law and of thetestimony, of the events of the years, of the weeks of their jubilees1 throughout allthe years of the age as he related them to Moses on Mount Sinai when he went upto receive the stone tablets of the law and the commandments, according to theword of Yahweh, as he had said to him, “Come up to the summit of themountain.”CHAPTER 1And it came to pass in the first year of the exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt, during the third month, on the sixteenth day of the month, Yahweh spoke toMoses, saying, “Come up to me on the mountain and I will give to you the twostone tablets of the law and the commandments which I have written so that youmay teach them.”2 So Moses went up the mountain of Yahweh. And the glory of Yahwehsettled on Mount Sinai, and a cloud covered it for six days. 3 When he2summoned Moses into the cloud on the seventh day, he saw the glory of Yahwehas a fire blazing on the summit of the mountain. 4 And Moses remained on themountain for forty days and forty nights while Yahweh told him what hadhappened beforehand as well as what was to come. And he related to him thedivisions of the times, for the law and for the testimony.5 And he said to him, “Incline your heart to all the words which I will speak toyou on this mountain. Then write them in a book so that their generations mightknow that I have not abandoned them because of all the evil which they havedone in straying from the covenant which I am making between me and you todayon Mount Sinai for all their generations. 6 So when all of these things befall them:they will recognize, that I have been more faithful than they have in all theirjudgments and in all their curses; and they will recognize, that I have truly beenwith them.7 “Now write for yourself all these words which I am telling you today, because I know their defiance and their stubbornness even before I bring theminto the land which I promised by oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘Toyour posterity I will give the land flowing with milk and honey.’ 8 When they eatand are satisfied, they will turn after other gods—to ones who will not save themfrom any of their afflictions. Then this testimony will serve as evidence. 9 Forthey will forget all of my commandments, everything which I shall command you.And they will walk after the nations, their disgrace, and their shame. And theywill serve their gods. And this will prove an obstacle for them—an affliction, apain, and a snare.10 “And many will be destroyed, and will be taken captive, and will fall intothe hand of the enemy because they have abandoned my statutes, mycommandments, my covenantal festivals, my sabbaths, my holy things which theyhave consecrated for me among themselves, my dwelling, and my temple which Imade holy for myself in the middle of the land so that I could set my name upon itso that it could dwell there. 11 And they will make for themselves high places,Asherahs, and carved images; and they will worship all the works of theirdelusion. And they will sacrifice their children to demons and to all the works ofthe delusions of their heart.12 “Then I will send witnesses to them to warn them, but they will not listenand will kill the witnesses. And they will persecute those who diligently seek thelaw. And they will abrogate everything and will begin 3 to do evil in my eyes. 13Then I will hide my face from them, and I will hand them over to the nations forcaptivity, devastations, and devouring. And I will remove them from the land, andI will disperse them among all the nations. 14 And they will forget all my statutes, all my commandments, and all my instruction; and they will forget the month, thesabbath, the festival, the jubilee, and the decree.15 “And after this they will return to me from among the nations with all theirhearts, all their souls, and all their strength. Then I will gather them from amongall the nations, and they will search for me. When they have searched for me withall their hearts and with all their souls, I will be found by them. Then I willdisclose to them abundant peace with righteousness. 16 And I will transform theminto a righteous plant with all my heart and with all my soul. Then they willbecome a blessing, not a curse; and they will become the head, not the tail. 17Then I will build my temple among them and will dwell with them, and I will123CHAPTER 2And the messenger of the presence spoke to Moses by the word of Yahweh, saying:Write all the words about the creation: how in six days Yahweh Godcompleted all his works, everything which he had created, and then rested on theseventh day. Then he consecrated it for all ages and appointed it as a sign for allhis works.2 For indeed on the first day, he created the highest heavens,7 the earth, thewaters (from which come snow and ice and hail and frost and dew),8 and all9 thespirits which perform their duties before him which are as follows:10messengers before his face;and messengers of the holiness;11and messengers of spirits of fire;12and messengers of spirits of blowing winds;and13 messengers of spirits14 of clouds and darkness, snow15 and hail and frost;messengers of thunders;and messengers of winds;1[1:17] some Eth / other Eth omit “their’[1:22] some omit “their sins and” (possibly by scribal error)[1:26] some Eth / other Eth “Now I shall write down for you”7[2:2] DSS(frag) / Eth, Gk(Epiph) “the heavens that are above” / Syr “the heavens”8[2:2] DSS(?), Eth / Gk(Epiph) add & omit “and”9[2:2] Gk(Epiph) / Eth “and all”10[2:2] Eth / Gk(Epiph) add11[2:2] DSS(frag), Eth, Syr / Epiph. “glory”12[2:2] most Eth, DSS(?) / some Eth, Gk(Epiph) omit “and messengers of the spirits of fire”13[2:2] DSS, Gk(Epiph) / Eth add14[2:2] DSS, Eth / Gk(Epiph) omit “of spirits”15[2:2] Gk(Epiph) / some Eth omit “and snow” / some Eth read “and everything”456[0] most Eth / some Eth “May Yahweh God of all spirit and all flesh be blessed”[1:3] other Eth “When the Lord”[1:12] most Eth / some Eth “change”1

and messengers of spirits2 of cold and of heat, of winter and of summer, ofspring and of autumn,3and of all the spirits of his creatures which are in all4 the heavens and on theearth, and in every place,5 the abysses (both the region under the earth and thechaos),6 and darkness (both evening and night),7 and the light (both daylight anddawn),8 which he has prepared through the knowledge of his heart. 3 Then wesaw his works and blessed him because of all his works. And we offered praisebefore him because he9 had made these seven great works on the first day.4 Now10 On the second day, he made the firmament between the waters, andthe waters were separated on that day. Half of them went up above the firmament, and half of them went down below the firmament which was the meridian above11the face of the whole earth. This was the only work which God12 made on thesecond day.5 Now on the third day, he commanded the waters to pass from the surface ofthe whole earth to one place, and that the dry land should appear. 6 And thewaters did as he commanded them. They withdrew from the surface of the earthto one place apart from this firmament, and dry land appeared. 7 On that day, hecreated for them all the seas (each with the places where they collected), and all13the rivers, and the places where the waters collected in the mountains and on thewhole earth,14 and all the reservoirs, and all the dew of the earth, and the seedwhich is sown—with each of its kinds, and everything which sprouts,15 and thefruit trees and the ones without fruit,16 and the forests, and the Garden of Eden inEden for enjoyment and for food.17 (When translated, Eden means Luxury.) Thesefour great works he made on the third day.8 Now on the fourth day, Yahweh made the sun, and the moon, and theconstellations of18 stars and the elements.19 And he placed them in the firmamentof the heavens to shed light upon the whole earth, to govern the day and the night, and to divide light from darkness. 9 Then Yahweh appointed the sun as a greatsign above the earth for days, sabbaths, months, festivals, years, the weeks ofyears, jubilees, and all the seasons of the years. 10 And it divides light fromdarkness, and brings healing so that everything which sprouts and grows on theearth may prosper. These three great works he made on the fourth day.11 Now on the fifth day, he created the great sea-monsters within the waterydepths, for these were the first works of flesh made by his hands; all the fishwhich swim about in the waters,20 and all flying birds, and all their kinds. 12 Thenthe sun shone over them so that they might prosper, and over everything whichwas on the earth—everything which sprouts from the ground, and all fruit trees, and all flesh. These three great works he made on the fifth day.13 Now on the sixth day, he made all the beasts of the earth, all the cattle, andeverything which creeps on the earth. 14 Then after all these things, he made thehuman, male and female he made them. And he gave to him dominion overeverything on earth, and in the seas, and over every flying creature, over thebeasts, over everything which creeps on the earth, over the cattle, and over theentire earth. Over all these he made him rule. These four kinds he made on thesixth day. 15 And altogether there were 22 works.21 16 And this was how hefinished all his works on the sixth day: everything which is in the heavens, and inthe earth, and in the seas, and in the abysses, in the light, and in the darkness, andin every place.17 For a great sign, he gave to us the sabbath day, on [which] he rested [fromall his works],22 so that we should perform work for six days, and that on theseventh day we should rest from all our work. 18 And he told us—all themessengers of the presence and all the messengers of holiness (these two greatkinds)—to rest with him in the heavens and on the earth.19 Then he said to us, “I will now separate a people for myself from amongmy nations.23 And they will rest. And I will make the people holy for myself andwill bless them as I made the sabbath day holy. And I will make them holy formyself as my own people;24 in this way I will bless them. So they will become mypeople and I will become their God. 20 And I have chosen25 the descendants ofJacob from among all of those whom I have seen. And I have recorded him as myfirstborn son and have made him holy for myself throughout the ages of eternity. And I will tell them about the sabbath day so that they might rest from all work onit.”21 In this way he made a sign on it by which they, too, would rest with us onthe seventh day to eat and drink, and to bless the Creator of all as he had blessedthem and made them holy for himself as a noteworthy people out of all thenations; and to rest together with us. 22 And he made his commands rise like apleasing aroma which is acceptable in his presence for all time.23 There were 22 leaders of the humans from the first human until Jacob;26and 22 kinds of works were made until the seventh day. The seventh day isblessed and holy, and the former, too, is blessed and holy. And both were madetogether for the purposes of holiness and blessing. 24 So it was granted to these, that for all times, they27 should be the blessed and holy ones. This is the testimonyand the first law, as it was made holy and blessed28 on the seventh day. 25 Hecreated the heavens, the earth, and everything which was created in six days. AndYahweh made the seventh day holy for all of his works. For this reason he gaveorders regarding it, that anyone who will do any work on it was to die. And also, the one who would defile it was to surely die.26 Now command the Israelites to observe this day so that they may make itholy, not do any work on it, and not defile it; for it is more holy than any otherday. 27 And anyone who profanes it will surely die, and anyone who does anywork on will be uprooted forever, so that the Israelites may observe this daythroughout their generations and not be uprooted from the earth. For it is a holyday; it is a blessed day. 28 And everyone who observes it and rests on it from allhis work will be holy and blessed throughout all times like us.29 Inform and tell the Israelites the law of this day, and that they should reston it, and not neglect it through the error of their hearts lest they do any work onit—the day on which it is not proper to do what they wish, namely: to prepare onit anything which is to be eaten or drunk; to draw water; to bring in or remove onit anything which one carries in their gates—any work which they had notprepared for themselves in their dwellings on the sixth day. 30 And they are not tobring anything out or in from house to house on this day, because it is more holyand more blessed than any jubilee of the jubilees. Before it was made known to allhumans that they should rest on it upon the earth, we rested on it in the heavens.31 And the Creator of all blessed but did not make any peoples and nations holyto rest on it except Israel alone. To them alone did he give the right to eat anddrink, and to rest on it upon the earth. 32 And the Creator of all, who created thisday, blessed it for blessing, holiness, and glory above all other days. 33 This lawand testimony were given to the Israelites as a perpetual law throughout theirgenerations.CHAPTER 3On the six days of the second week, according to the word of Yahweh, webrought to the human, all the beasts, and all the cattle, and all the birds, andeverything which creeps about on the earth, and everything which swims about inthe water—each according to its kind, and each one according to its likeness. Webrought the beasts on the first day, the cattle on the second day, the birds on thethird day, and everything which creeps on the earth on the fourth day, and thosewhich swim in the water29 on the fifth day. 2 So the human named them all, eachwith its own name. Whatever he called them became their name. 3 During thesefive days the human was looking at all of these—male and female among everykind which was on the earth. But he himself was alone, and found no helpersuitable for him.4 Then Yahweh said to us, “It is not good for the human to be alone. Let usmake a suitable helper for him.”5 And Yahweh our God cast a deep sleep upon him and he slept. Then he tookone of his bones for a woman. That rib from among his own bones was the originof the woman. And he built up the flesh in its place, and built the woman. 6 Thenhe awakened the human from his sleep. When he awoke, he arose on the sixth day. Then he brought the human to her. Then he knew her and said to her:“This is now bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh;this one will be called my woman, for she was taken out of her man.”[2:2] DSS / Eth, Gk(Epiph) “frost; and the messengers of the {Epi “sounds” / Eth “depths”}: thunders,lightnings2[2:2] Eth / Gk(Epiph) omit “and messengers of spirits”3[2:2] DSS / others add4[2:2] Gk(Epiph) / Eth add5[2:2] DSS, some Eth / many Eth “earth, and in all” / Gk(Epiph) omit “and in every place”6[2:2] DSS, Eth / Gk(Epiph) add7[2:2] Gk(Epiph) / Eth omit “and night”8[2:2] Gk(Epiph), some Eth / most Eth omit “and dawn”9[2:3] Eth / Gk(Epiph) “God”10[2:4] DSS / Gk(Epiph), Eth add11[2:4] Eth, supported by DSS(fragmented) / Gk(Epiph) “between the waters, and the division of the watersabove the firmament, and of those beneath the firmament on”12[2:4] Eth / Gk(Epiph) add13[2:7] Gk(Epiph) / Eth add14[2:7] Eth / Syr “and the springs of water in the mountains and in the valleys” / Gk(Epiph) “rivers, thesprings and lakes”15[2:7] Gk(Epiph) / Eth “everything that is eaten”16[2:7] Eth / Gk(Epiph) add17[2:7] Gk(Epiph) “and all the plants according to their kinds.”18[2:8] Eth / Gk(Epiph) add19[2:8] Eth / Gk(Epiph) add20[2:11] Gk(Epiph) “the fish and everything else which creeps in the water”21[2:15] most Eth, Syr, Gk(Epiph) / some Eth omit “In all there were 22 kinds.”22[2:17] DSS (fragmented) [fragmented section possibly survives in Gk(Epiph)] / others omit “on [which] herested [ ]”23[2:19] DSS / Gk(Epiph) “from among all the nations”124[2:19] most Eth / some Eth add[2:20] DSS, Eth / Gk(Epiph) “I will chose”[2:23] DSS, Eth “him” / Gk(Epiph) “Jacob”27[2:24] most Eth / some Eth “he”28[2:24] many Eth / other Eth “as he made holy and blessed the Sabbath day”29[3:1] Gk(Epiph) / Eth add25262

which creeps on the earth6 were made incapable of speaking, because all of themused to converse with one another in one language and one tongue.29 Then he dismissed all flesh which was in the Garden of Eden from theGarden of Eden. So all flesh was dispersed—each by its kind and each by itsnature—into the places which had been created for them. 30 But of all the beastsand cattle, he permitted the human alone to cover his shame. 31 For this reason ithas been commanded in the tablets regarding all those who know the judgment ofthe law that they cover their shame and not uncover themselves as the nationsuncover themselves.32 On the first7 day of the fourth month, the human and his woman departedfrom the Garden of Eden. And they lived in the land of Elda, 8 in the land wherethey were created. 33 And the human named his woman Eva (when translated, that is, Life). 34 Now they were childless throughout the first jubilee; butafterwards he knew her. 35 And he himself was cultivating the land as he hadbeen taught in the Garden of Eden.7 For this reason, a man and a woman are to become one, and for this reasonhe1 leaves his father and his mother, and he clings to his woman, and they becomeone flesh.8 In the first week, the human and his woman (the rib) were created, and inthe second week Yahweh showed her to him. Therefore, a commandment wasgiven to keep women in their defilement: seven days for a male child, and twoperiods of seven days for a female.9 After 40 days had come to an end for the human in the land where he hadbeen created, we brought him into the Garden of Eden to cultivate and care for it.But his woman was brought there on the eightieth day. So after this, she enteredthe Garden of Eden. 10 For this reason a commandment was written in theheavenly tablets for the one who gives birth to a child:“If she gives birth to a boy, she is to remain in her impurity for seven days likethe first seven days; then for 33 days she is to remain in the blood of purification. And she is not to touch anything sacred nor enter the holy-place until shecompletes these days for a boy. 11 But in the case of a girl, she is to remain in herimpurity for two weeks of days, like the first two weeks, and 66 days in the bloodof purification. So their total is 80 days.”12 After she had completed these 80 days, we brought her into the Garden ofEden because it is the holiest place in the entire earth, and every tree which isplanted in it is holy. 13 For this reason, the law of these days has been ordainedfor the woman who gives birth to a boy or girl: She is not to touch anythingsacred, nor to enter the holy-place, until the time when those days for a boy or girlare completed. 14 These are the law and testimony which were written for Israelto keep for all times.CHAPTER 4In the second jubilee, during its third week, she gave birth to Kain. And during thefourth week, she gave birth to Habel. And during the fifth week, she gave birth tohis daughter Awan.92 In the third jubilee, during its first week, Kain killed Habel. He did thisbecause Habel’s offering had been accepted, but Kain’s offering was notaccepted. 3 When he killed him in a field, his blood cried out from the ground tothe heavens, appealing because he had been killed. 4 Then Yahweh reproved Kainregarding Habel because he had killed him. Although he permitted him a length oftime to live on the earth, because of his brother’s blood, he cursed him upon theearth.5 For this reason, it has been written on the heavenly tablets, “Cursed is theman who beats his companion maliciously. And let everyone who has seen it say,‘Let it be.’ And let the man who has seen but has not reported it be cursed likehim.” 6 For this reason, when we come before Yahweh our God, we report all thesins which take place in the heavens and upon the earth—what happens in thelight, in the darkness, or in any place.7 So the human and his woman spent four weeks of years mourning for Habel. Then during the fifth week, in its fourth year, they became happy. And thehuman again knew his woman, and she gave birth to a son for him, and he namedhim Seth because he said, “Yahweh has raised up for us another child on the earthin place of Habel, since Kain killed him.”15 During the first week of the first jubilee, the human and his woman spentthe seven years in the Garden of Eden working and guarding it. We gave work tohim, and we were teaching him how to do everything which was appropriate forworking it. 16 While he was working, he was naked but did not realize it, nor washe ashamed. And he would guard the garden against the birds, and beasts, andcattle.2 Then he would gather its fruit and eat it, and would store its surplus forhimself and his woman. And what was being guarded he set aside.17 At the end of the seven years which he had completed—seven yearsexactly—during the second month, on the seventeenth day, the serpent arrived. Itcame and approached the woman. Then the serpent said to the woman, “Is it fromall of the fruit of the3 trees4 in the Garden which Yahweh has commanded you,‘Do not eat from it?’”18 And she said to him, “From all the fruit of the trees which are in theGarden, Yahweh told us, ‘Eat.’ But from the fruit of the tree which is in themiddle of the Garden he told us, ‘Do not eat from it and do not touch it, lest youshall die.’”19 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die, becauseYahweh knows that when you eat from it, then your eyes will be opened; and youwill be like gods, and you will know good and evil.”20 Then the woman saw that the tree was good and was a craving to the eyeand that its fruit was good to eat. And she took some of it and ate it. 21 Havingfirst covered her shame with fig leaves, she then gave it to the human. And he ateit. Then his eyes were opened, and he saw that he was naked. 22 So he tookleafage of a fig-tree and sewed them; this was how he made a loin-covering forhimself and covered his shame.23 And Yahweh cursed the serpent and was angry at it forever.5 And he wasalso angry with the woman because she had listened to the serpent and eaten. 24And he said to her, “I will indeed multiply the pangs of your childbearing. Youwill bring forth children in sorrow. And your place of return will be with yourman, and he will rule over you.”25 Then he said to the human, “Because you listened to your woman and atefrom the tree from which I commanded you not to eat, cursed be the ground onaccount of you. Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth for you. And by the sweatof your face, shall you eat your bread, until you return to the ground from whichyou were taken. For you are dirt, and to the dirt you shall return.”26 Then he made clothing out of skins for them, and clothed them, anddismissed them from the Garden of Eden. 27 On that day, as he was leaving theGarden of Eden, he burned incense as a pleasing aroma—frankincense, galbanum, stacte, and aromatic spices. These he burnt in the early morning when the sun roseat the time when he covered his shame. 28 On that day, the mouths of all thebeasts, and the cattle, and the birds, and everything which walks and everything8 During the sixth week, he became the father of his daughter Azura. 9 ThenKain married his sister Awan,10 and at the end of the fourth jubilee she gave birthto Henoch for him.In the fifth jubilee, during the first week, in its first year, houses were built onthe earth. Then Kain built a city and named it after his son Henoch.10 Then the human knew his woman Eva, and she gave birth to nine morechildren. 11 In the fifth jubilee, during its fifth week, Seth married his sisterAzura. And in its fourth year she gave birth to Enosh for him. 12 He was the firstone on the earth to call upon the name of Yahweh.13 In the seventh jubilee, during its third week, Enosh married his sisterNoam.11 During the fifth week, in its third year, she gave birth to a son for him,and he named him Kenan.14 At the end of the eighth jubilee, Kenan took his sister Mahalaleth12 for awoman.13 In the ninth jubilee, during the first week, in the third year of this week, she gave birth to a son for him, and he named him Mahalalel.15 In the tenth jubilee, during its second week, Mahalalel married Dinah, daughter of Barakiel, that is, the daughter of his father’s brother.14 During thethird week, in its sixth year, she gave birth to a son for him. And he named himJared because during his days the messengers of Yahweh, who were calledwatchers, descended to earth to instruct the sons of the humans and to do what isjust and upright upon the earth.16 In the eleventh jubilee, during the fourth week of this jubilee, Jared took awoman for himself, and her name was Barakah, daughter of Rasu’eyal, that is, thedaughter of his father’s brother. In this jubilee, during its fifth week, in its fourthyear, she gave birth to a son for him, and he named him Henoch.17 Therefore,15 He was the first of among the sons of the humans who wereborn on the earth who learned writing, instruction, and wisdom. 1 THE DIVISION OF THE TIMES (a.k.a. JUBILEES or LITTLE BEGINNING) PROLOGUE These are the words regarding the divisions of the times of the law and of the testimony, of the events of the years, of the weeks of their jubilees1 throughout all the years of the age as he related them to Moses on Mount Sinai when he went up to receive the stone tablets of the law and the commandments, according to the
