IntroductionThe Doctrine Smart Book is a concise collection of Army doctrine summariesthat reflects current approved doctrine and is prepared by the CombinedArms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The first half of the DoctrineSmart Book provides a visual representation of the Army’s doctrinalhierarchy and its corresponding joint doctrine. It illustrates the hierarchy ofArmy doctrine publications (ADPs) and Army doctrine reference publications(ADRPs). It then illustrates the hierarchy as it applies to the Army’s fieldmanuals (FMs). The remaining hierarchy details publications—includingFMs and Army techniques publications (ATPs)—by decisive action, types ofoperations, warfighting functions, and centers of excellence. The second halfof the Doctrine Smart Book consists of one-page synopses of each currentapproved ADP, ADRP, and FM. The first five publications listed are thoseapproved by the Chief of Staff of the Army. Each synopsis contains thecharacteristics, fundamentals, terms, and ideas as they are discussed ineach publication.The principal audience for the Doctrine Smart Book is all readers ofdoctrine—military, civilian, and contractor.The Doctrine Smart Book is uses Department of Defense terms whereapplicable.The preparing agency is the Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate, UnitedStates Army Combined Arms Center.
