4-H RECORD BOOKSRecord Book Project Awards"5" Presentation AwardAll 4-H members must submit a record book at theend of the year in order to receive a year pin andstripe, and to sell at next year’s Jr. LivestockAuction. Those that qualify canthen submit their record books onto county judging. Special awardscan be won (even primarymembers can join in thiscompetition)! Record books will bejudged overall, but particularly oneproject must be chosen andcompetition is between those in each project. Aplaque will be given for the most complete and wellregarded project book, with medals given to the nextfour highest point-earning books and all others willbe given a certificate.Reminder:Ifyou give apresentation to five differentaudiences, you will receive a specialmedal sponsored by 4-H Council.Giving a presentation at the CountyPresentation Day is a good start! Statewide upcoming eventsState 4-H Field Day ScheduledState 4-H Fashion RevueThe State 4-H Field Day takes placeannually on the last Saturday of May(May 31) at the UC Davis campus from8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The event isopen to all 4-H members, volunteers,staff, and parents. Between 1,000 and1,400 people attend the event. The event has a"picnic" feel as people bring chairs and socialize forthe day on the Wellman Hall east lawn. The State 4H Office provides coordination and facility support.Each contest and activity is coordinated by a groupof 4-H staff, volunteers, and youth. During the event,4-H members may participate in a variety ofcontests. Some contests require pre-qualificationand/or pre-registration. Some are open to all duringthe event. Honors and recognitionGina AmaroAll StarTanner BaileyScholarshipRecipientKaylee JacksonAll Star2014 Glenn County 4-H Scholarship RecipientTanner Bailey, a graduating senior, was selected to receive a 1000 4-H scholarship. Tanner Bailey, of theOrland 4-H Club, has been a 4-H member for 13 years and is a senior at Corning Union High School. SinceTanner will be entering the U.S. Army in August, his award will be placed in a 4-H Council deferred accountwhile serving and the funds will be made available to him once he attends college.While in the U.S. Army, Tanner plans to obtain his infantry qualifications as well as pursue a degree in militaryhistory and work on welding certifications. Tanner has served as Lake 4-H Sergeant of Arms, Junior Leader forBeef, Sport Shooting, Archery, and Pygmy Goats. He has earned his Platinum Star and was a 2012California 4-H Postal Shoot State Champion. Tanner has been a 4-H Camp Counselor for three years and will be4-H Camp Youth Director for camp this year. Tanner is the son of Randy and Dari Bailey of Orland.Congratulations Tanner!2014-15 Glenn County 4-H All Stars AnnouncedGina Amaro of Clover 4-H Club and Kaylee Jackson of Willows 4-H Club have been selected as the GlennCounty 4-H All Stars for the 2014-2015 4-H year. This is the highest honor that can be achieved at thecounty level through the 4-H program. Being an All Star is an opportunity for further experience and growthin leadership and community involvement. These All Stars will represent Glenn County at County, Sectionaland State Events. Each year only up to four members are chosen for this honor from an enrollment of 425.Gina Amaro has been a 4-H member for four years. Gina is a Teen Leader of Teen Council, Cavy, Rabbitsand Arts & Crafts projects within her club. She has received her Platinum Star. Gina attends Willows HighSchool. She is the daughter of Diane and Mark Amaro of Willows.Kaylee Jackson has been a 4-H member for six years. She is currently serving as a B.L.A.S.T. (Becoming anLeader All Star in Training) Team member as well as serving as the Junior Leader for Cake Decorating,Foods & Nutrition, and Sheep projects within her club. Kaylee has also been selected to be a camp counselorat this year’s 4-H summer camp. Kaylee attends Princeton High School. She is the daughter of AngelaFlanagan of Willows. Honors and recognition continued2014-2015 BLAST Members AnnouncedTessa Flournoy of the Orland 4-H Club, Garrett Otterson of the Clover 4-H Club, Kathy Valle of the Orland4-H Club and Shelby Weinrich of the Clover 4-H Club were selected as Glenn County 4-H’s BLASTTeam members (BLAST stands for Becoming A Leader All Star In Training) for the 2014-2015 4-H year.The position as a BLAST member gives 4-H youth the opportunity to use their leadership and communityservice skills to assist the All Star Team at county level as a year-long commitment.Tessa Flournoy has been a 4-H member for five years and is involved with several projects such as, Sheep,Horse, Veterinary Science and the 4-H Thrive program. Tessa has also held the office of Treasurer andSecretary for the Orland 4-H Club. Tessa is currently in the 8th grade at C.K. Price Middle School and is thedaughter of Tina and Wade Flournoy of Orland.Garrett Otterson has been a 4-H member for five years and a BLAST Team member for the past year. He iscurrently involved in four Goat projects, as well as Baking and Breadmaking, Dairy, Teen Council, andLivestock Judging - Large Animal Master Showmanship projects, and serves as a Junior Leader for three ofthe projects. He is the Secretary for the Clover 4-H Club as well. Garrett is currently in the Eighth Gradeat Walden Academy in Willows and is the son of Bryan and Landry Otterson of Willows.Kathy Valle is a seven-year member of the Orland 4-H Club and has served as a BLAST Team memberfor the past year. She is currently serving as the Vice President of the Orland 4-H Club and is involved inCooking, Arts & Crafts, Sheep, Veterinary Science and Sewing projects. She is in the 8th grade at PlazaElementary School and is the daughter of Kathy and Jesus Valle of Orland.Shelby Weinrich has been a 4-H member for six years.
