9Cambodian Living Arts’ (CLA) mission is to be a catalyst in a vibrant arts sector, inspiringnew generations. Established in 1998, our original goal was to keep Cambodia’sendangered intangible heritage alive. As the context of Cambodia changed, and a newgeneration of artists began to emerge, we started running scholarships, fellowships andprofessional development training, whilst creating job opportunities and encouragingcultural entrepreneurship. To support the transforming environment, we also engage incultural policy advocacy, support the development of arts education in public schoolsand build new audiences for arts. Our programs aim to give artists the resources andopportunities to start telling stories of contemporary Cambodia. In 2019, Cambodian Living Arts celebrates a full 20 years working inCambodia. Today, we envision the arts and cultural expression as essentialto a thriving future for Cambodia.Expression is a fundamental part of being human. It’s part of interactingwith the world around you, as more than an individual; playing an activerole in the world in which you live.It has always been at the core of CLA’s beliefs that art is at forward-lookingpeople, who can look at the communities and systems that they are a partof, and explore the role they want to play. In today’s world, we need thismore than ever.rimPhloeun P ectorirExecutive D
