EASY SELECTIONSelection of DODGE E-Z KLEEN Polymer and Stainless Steel HousedBall BearingsDODGE E-Z KLEEN ball bearings are primarily designed for radialloading. However, they have the capacity to carry thrust loads andcombined radial/thrust loads. The maximum recommended loadwhich can be applied is limited by various components in the system, such as bearing, housing, shaft attachments, speed and liferequirements as listed in this catalog and the instruction manualthat accompanies each bearing. DODGE E-Z KLEEN ball bearingshave been applied successfully when these limits have beenexceeded under controlled operating conditions. Contact DODGEEngineering, 864-281-2195, for applications which exceed theserecommendations.P (X x FR) (Y x FA)Where:P Equivalent Radial Load, lbs.FR Radial load, lbs.FA Thrust load, lbs.e Thrust load to radial load factor (Table 1)X Radial load factor (Table 1)Y Thrust Factor (Table 1)CO Basic static capacity (Table 2 or 3)To find X and Y, first calculate FA/CO to determine e. Calculate FA/FR and compare to e to determine the X and Y factors to use fromTable 1.Select a bearing from the Selection table that has a radial load rating at the operating speed equal to or greater than the calculatedEquivalent Radial load for a desired L10 life. (Table 2 for Englishshaft sizes and Table 3 for metric shaft sizes) This simple method isall that is required for the majority of general applications and provides for occasional average shock loads.Radial/Thrust FactorsFACoA maximum thrust load value of C/10 is recommended as a guidefor general applications and will give adequate L10 life. If the thrustload exceeds this limit, it is advisable to use auxiliary thrust carryingdevices, such as a shaft shoulder, snap ring, or a thrust collar.Where substantial radial load pulls the housing away from themounting base, both the hold-down bolts and housing must be ofadequate strength. Auxiliary load carrying devices, such as sheerbars, are advisable for side or end-loading of pillow blocks andradial loads for flange 560To determine the L10 hours life for loads and RPM’s not listed usethe following equation:( PC )3x16667RPMeIf FA/FR is equal to or lessthan eIf FA/FR is greater than eFA/FR e.19.21.22.24.26.27.28.30.34.38.42.44FA/FR 31.551.451.311.151.041.00Lubrication - DODGE Ball Bearings are lubricated at the factoryand are ready to run. The bearings are initially lubricated with Chevron FM EP2 H1 Food Grade and should be relubricated with thesame or some equivalent. For high speeds, high loads, extremetemperatures and other abnormal operating conditions, specialgreases may be required. Contact DODGE Application Engineeringfor recommendations on these types of applications.Misalignment - DODGE Ball Bearings are designed to allow aWhen the load on a ball bearing is solely a radial load with no thrustmaximum of 2 static misalignment. These bearings are not suit(axial) load, the Equivalent Radial Load (P) is equal to the actualable for dynamic misalignment. To ensure good alignment, mountradial load. However, when a thrust (axial) load is applied, the radialing surfaces must be checked for flatness and must lie in the sameand thrust loads applied must be converted into an Equivalentplane. When tightening base bolts, each bolt should be alternatelyRadial Load. The use of the X (radial factor) and Y (thrust factor)tightening in incremental torque values until full torque is achievedfrom Table 1 convert the actual applied thrust and radial loads to anto prevent the angular shifting of the pillow block that occurs whenEquivalent Radial Load which has the same effect on the life of aone bolt is tightened to its full torque.
