Page 2St. Christopher ParishDear St. Christopher Family,Christmas is almost here!Imagine what people were thinking when theyfirst heard the message from the prophets thatthe Messiah was coming soon.“You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah,too small to be among the clans of Judah,From you shall come forth for meone who is to be ruler in Israel;Whose origin is from of old, from ancient times” (Micah 5:1).Reading the messages of the prophets at the face value, we can seeclearly that the Messiah would be a ruler, a king who wouldestablish a forever kingdom of Israel, and he would be a “Prince ofPeace.” As they have witnessed many corrupted kings in theirhistory, being destroyed and exiled by other superpowers over theyears, and there was no good leader around, people must belooking forward to “that day” with great hope and expecting aglorious future for the nation. When Jesus came, the social and political condition of Israel did notchange at all. They were governed by the Romans at the time ofJesus. No wonder people were confused about his true identitybecause the world remained the same.Unfortunately, this mentality continues to exist even today.Christmas has come and gone year after year, and nothing haschanged in our world. Depending on the time, it has been worst forsome generations. Naturally, people would wonder what faith inJesus would do for them. Consequently, Christmas would becomeanother holiday – an occasion for rest from work and for partying! There is a story about a group of soldiers who were stranded on thesea near the Amazon River. After days without fresh water, everyone died. However, the irony is that since their location wasnear the Amazon River, with a huge amount of fresh water pouringinto the sea, that area of the sea has become the “river” because it isall fresh water. The sea remained the sea; the water looked likeseawater; and the soldiers assumed the water would be salty andnever tried! If only they were willing to try, they would have beensaved. The coming of Jesus and the presence of God in our world are likethat. On the surface, our world remains the same day after day, ifnot worse in some areas, but the water, the inner spirit, has beentransformed in many hearts and souls of many people whowillingly try the saving water, “Glory to God in the highest, and onearth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”God does not save the world by changing the conditions of theworld or by eradicating all evils in the world. God saves the worldby saving one soul at a time! This is God’s way.Merry Christmas! May you reach out and taste the Love of God thisseason!- Fr. BenDecember 19, 2021PastorRev.
