Academic Expectations of StudentsMAINTAINING GOOD STANDARDSEach student MUST meet the objectives ofeach area of study and is required to: Keep apprised of and adhere to the rulesand regulations of TTUHSC StudentHandbook Student Code at C Institutional Student Handbook.pdf, the School of Nursing Catalog athttp://www.ttuhsc.edu/son/catalog.aspx, and policies contained in the mostcurrent version of the School of NursingStudent Handbook. Demonstrate a systematic, safe, accurate,timely, and efficient approach toaccomplish each objective and use allmaterials efficiently. Devote adequate time and preparationto class and clinical activities to meet thestated objectives. Demonstrate academic integrity in eachelement of the student’s performance. Apply ethical behavior appropriate to thestandards of a developing professionalat all times and particularly in relationto maintaining the confidentiality ofinformation regarding patients andclients. Maintain personal health to accomplishthe essential functions as defined in theSchool of Nursing Catalog. Be aware of professional issues and havethe ability to define a personal positionin relation to various issues. Participate in evaluating the area ofstudy and the School of Nursing.16 Maintain all practice standards, iflicensed, as written by the Texas Boardof Nursing Nurse Practice Act. IC and PROFESSIONALINTEGRITYAll students entering the School of Nursingmust subscribe to the standards and codesof the profession. Patients and society as awhole expect School of Nursing students, asnursing professionals to adhere to the: TTUHSC Student Handbook StudentCode American Nurses Association (ANA)Code of Ethics for Nurses Texas Board of Nursing UnprofessionalConduct Rules:- Standards of Practice (TexasAdministrative Code §217.11)- Unprofessional Conduct(TexasAdministrative Code §217.12)Students who fail to uphold and/or complywith the above codes and standards forsafe and professional nursing practice willbe considered in violation of the law and/or professional nursing standards. Studentsholding a license to practice nursingwill be subject to the reporting laws onunprofessional conduct.Academic integrity stands at the heartof the School of Nursing. The SONis bound by a fundamental trust thatprofessors and students alike undertakeand present their work honestly. to compromise the academic integrity ofthe University, or subvert the educationalprocess. This includes but is not limited to: Cheating Plagiarism Falsifying academic records Misrepresenting facts ;and Any act designed to give unfairacademic advantage to the student or theattempt to commit such an act.Each student is responsible to becomefamiliar with the various regulations ofthe University. Each student, in acceptingadmission, indicates a willingness tosubscribe to and be governed by the rulesand regulations of University and likewisebe responsible for his/her own integrity. Foradditional information please refer to theTTUHSC Student Handbook Student CodePart II, E, Other Professional and EthicalSchool Standards, (2) School of Nursing.ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT and USERRESPONSIBILITIESTTUHSC IT Policy 56.06eRaider is an account management systemwhich makes it possible for SON studentsto obtain and access electronic resourcesat Texas Tech using a single user name andpassword. Your eRaider user name andpassword are required to access many ofthese resources. An eRaider account isrequired to access the TTUHSC domain.New students, receive an eRaider accountupon coming to the Health Sciences Center;access is dependent upon account types (i.e.faculty, staff, and students) and departmentrequirements. Questions regarding eRaideraccount information should be directed tothe I.T. Solutions Center at each respectivecampus.School of NursingCLASSROOM BEHAVIORSchool of Nursing students and faculty havea responsibility for creating and maintainingan appropriate learning environment in theclassroom. TTUHSC Student HandbookStudent Code states, “An environmentin which the privileges of citizenshipare protected and the obligations ofcitizenship are understood fosters freedomof discussion, inquiry, and expression.Accordingly, the University community hasdeveloped standards of behavior pertainingto students and to student organizations (p.14).”DISRUPTIVE CONDUCTThe TTUHSC Student Handbook StudentCode prohibits actions against membersof the University community, including,but not limited to, behavior disruptive tothe normal operation of the University,including students, faculty, and staff.“Disruptive conduct,” defined by the Schoolof Nursing, means conduct that substantiallyor repeatedly interferes with the instructor’sability to teach, or student learning. Suchconduct includes, but is not limited to: Excessive or disruptive tardiness Continuous distractive behavior duringclass presentations Utilization of electronic technology, suchas laptop computers, tablets, cell phones,etc., during lectures or other learningenvironments for activities unrelated toclass or instruction being provided. Distractive or inappropriate behavior inonline discussion boards, emails, chatrooms, web and/or video conferences, orother online educational technology.17

CONSEQUENCES OF DISRUPTIVECONDUCTIf a student continues disruptive conductafter the course instructor notifies thestudent of the unacceptable conduct,the course instructor may request thestudent to leave class immediately. If thestudent believes the action is not merited,the student may follow the process fornon-grade grievance as outlined inthis publication (see Academic GradeChallenges/Appeals and Compliant orGrievance Resolution (Non-grade Related)).If the student leaves the class, the studentshall not receive credit for in-class activitiesthat day. If such action results in a finalgrade the student believes is incorrect,the student should follow the processoutlined in the policy for Academic GradeChallenges/Appeals.Students should consider the use ofelectronic technology, such as laptopcomputers or tablets, during class as aprivilege, not a right.
