FIREFIGHTER TRAINING THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE LIVE FIREFIGHTER TRAINING SOLUTIONSD-37065-2015As a result, you can continually build the abilities andconfidence of firefighters.D-37052-2015At Dräger, we offer an unmatched range of operationsequipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), andproven firefighter training systems. Our Class A live firetraining units, gas-fueled training systems, and SCBAmazes enable you to teach skills that are essentialto many NFPA standards, including 1001 firefighterqualifications – in a safe and repeatable environment.D-37053-2015The best way to learn how to fight a fire is by fightingreal fires. However, with today’s improved fireprevention methods and public education, there arefewer fires to fight – which means less opportunity forreal-life experiences. 03

CLASS A SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEMClass ADräger Swede Survival:Real Smoke, Real Heat, Real FireOUR WOOD-FUELED SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEMS PROVIDEBOTH EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING, ENABLING YOU TO:– Develop a progressive live firefighter trainingcurriculumThis system enables firefighters to incrementally developknowledge of fire behavior and skills for fire control/suppression as they advance through six available skillcenters – Phase 1 though Phase 6.– Minimize riskThese systems combine purpose-built training unitswith Dräger-certified instructional programs that trainthe trainers on the safe operation of the unit – includingproper fuel loading, ignition, ventilation control, anddelivery of the training.– Replicate real-world scenariosThis comprehensive solution enables you to deliverextremely realistic, hands-on training. By selectingone or more Phases, you can address most ofthe requisite skills for structural firefighting as perNFPA 1001-Standard for Fire Fighter ProfessionalQualifications and NFPA 1403-Standard on Live FireTraining Evolutions.– Control training costsCompared to the high cost of architectural concrete orsteel burn buildings, Dräger Swede Survival systems areextremely cost effective. Training units can be placedalmost anywhere, can be moved from one location toanother, and require minimal maintenance.D-29427-201504 UNMATCHED TRAININGAll live fire training is inherently dangerous. That’s why Dräger is committed to developingand offering the most comprehensive trainingprograms in North America.Dräger Swede Survival systems and Drägercertified instructional training programs havebeen designed and delivered in accordancewith training methods developed by theSwedish Rescue Services Agency throughthe Swedish Rescue Training Center (SRTC).

“The system is flexibleand realistic.”D-37055-2015Battalion Chief Dan Miller,Omaha Fire DepartmentGENUINE SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEMAfter two Swedish firefighters lost their lives toflashover in 1986, the Swedish government askedthe country’s Rescue Service to develop a full burnbehavior program that included flashover training. The intent of the program was to help firefightersrecognize extreme fire behavior and avoid injuriesand death.Dräger brought this live fire training program toNorth America in 1990 and has delivered morethan 300 systems in the US and Canada to firedepartments, fire academies, airports, militaryagencies, and more.

CLASS A SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEM PHASES 1, 2 & 2 DrägerSwedeSurvival SystemsToday’s building materials and furnishings produce fires that burn faster andhotter than ever before. In fact, modern homes reach flashover significantlyfaster than homes did 50 years ago*.PHASE 1: BURN BEHAVIOR AND FLASHOVER DEVELOPMENT OBSERVATIONBy experiencing these conditions, trainees learn to recognizewarning signs and develop nozzle skills that can delay flashoverand permit a rapid escape from this dangerous phenomenon.D-37049-2015Demonstrates fire behavior, progression, flashoverindicators, and prevention techniquesIn a safe and controlled setting 3 feet below the burn chamber, trainees closely observe typical fire behavior in a roomand-contents fire. They witness ignition, the phases of firedevelopment, and the signs that lead to a flashover – includingheavy smoke, heat, thermal layering, and rollover. Traineescan also witness the impact of ventilation and learn aboutventilation-limited and fuel-limited fires.D-29428-201506 * UL. Modern Residential Fires. Retrieved August 14, 2014 from al-fires

D-29429-2015PHASE 2: INTERIOR ATTACKD-37058-2015Expands on fire behavior lessons from Phase 1 andprogresses to attacking the fireIn a 40-foot container, training now takes place on the samelevel as the fire. Trainees enter the unit, identify the level of firedevelopment, and use proper nozzle techniques to control thefire. If trainees recognize the development of flashover, theymust use the nozzle techniques to delay the onset of flashoverand retreat from the unit.Instructors maintain control of the scenario through properoperation of the ventilation chimney. The Phase 2 can alsobe used to address other requisite skills required in a typicalsingle-story building fire.D-29430-2015PHASE 2 : ADVANCED ATTACK (MOBILE)Combines the training of Phase 2 with the benefits of amultipurpose skill facilityYou can conduct numerous dynamic scenarios in this 48-footmobile unit by using the unit’s additional training devices inconjunction with its live fire capability. There’s a moveablewall system to change the approach path and for search andrescue; a fold-up roof railing with second-story window framefor laddering, bailout, and rescue; a confined space entryhatch through the roof; a vertical ventilation prop; and firststory windows and doors for mechanical, horizontal ventilation.

CLASS A SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEM PHASES 3 & 4DrägerSwedeSurvival SystemsPHASE 3: BACKDRAFTThe fire in the ventilation-limited compartment produces asignificant amount of smoke and fire gases, which are heatedbeyond ignition temperature. When the compartment door isopened and oxygen is introduced, a large explosion resultsfrom the rapid combustion of the gases.D-1293-2009Demonstrates the warning signs of backdraft and theintensity of an explosionIf warning signs go unnoticed, a firefighter can cause abackdraft by opening a door or breaking a window to reach acompartment fire. For exterior observation only, the Phase 3 isa laboratory that gives trainees the opportunity to learn aboutthe conditions that can cause and occur during a backdraftcondition.PHASE 4: GARAGESimulates an entry room with heat and smoke leadingto a large live fire room, providing additional fire attackscenariosThis trainer is configured with two 40-foot containers side-byside and a 20-foot container installed perpendicularly at theentry point of the burn chamber. This layout forms a hallwayentry into a double-wide burn room for more advanced anddynamic scenarios. The additional width lets you train twonozzle teams entering from opposite sides of the structure.D-29431-201508

SWEDE SURVIVAL SYSTEM PHASES 5 & 6 CLASS APHASE 5: MULTI-STORY, MULTI-FIRED-1298-2009Simulates a multi-story, single-family dwelling structure fireThis flexible unit leverages the lessons learned fromPhases 1–4: size up, breach, ventilate, enter, search andrescue, attack, and overhaul. It enables fire attack at grade, below grade, and above grade, covering applicable NFPA1001 requirements – at a fraction of the cost of similararchitectural burn buildings. The Phase 5 is the ideal complement to other Phases, but isalso a cost-effective standalone training facility.PHASE 6: CENTER HALLWAYD-37059-2015Simulates a hotel or apartment building fireWith a 80-foot central hallway and 20-foot containersas burn rooms, this system lets you train for fire attack, smoke conditions, search and rescue, and hose handlingthrough the main corridor. The design offers variousscenarios due to the length of the central hallway and thenumber of potential burn rooms. 09
