Along the way, theyStudents will then attend the first hour ofthe performance, which has been curatedto reflect the diversity of dance in today’ssociety, and to inspire them by introducinga variety of movement styles. Students willend the evening meeting some of the artistic directors and dancers for a brief Q&A,and depart with a worksheet for additionalreflection questions and activities.

Endorsed by the U.S. ambassadorin China, the festival implemented extensiveoutreach activities including question andanswer sessions following each program,master classes, and performances at anoutdoor Olympic venue. Lois Greenfield’slarge-scale installation PROJECTED was afeatured component, positioned on a hugeoutdoor screen in the heart of Beijing.For seven years from 2009–2015, BookingDance Festival Edinburgh garnered worldwideacclaim and five-star reviews, positioning U.S.dance artists to gain international exposureand touring opportunities. The shows havebeen featured in the BBC World News, BBCScotland, and CNN, and most importantlywere welcomed with enthusiasm from audiences, many of which had never seen dancebefore! Additionally, Jodi Kaplan partneredwith Bryant Park in producing Booking Danceat Bryant Park for five years, bringing audiences of thousands to the heart of New YorkCity to see previews from the annual BookingDance Festival Edinburgh.Jodi Kaplan & Associates/Booking Danceis a personal “boutique agency” thatbooks dance companies on extensivetours throughout the United States andinternationally. Pasttours have included performance engagements in Ketchikan and Kodiak, and current communications with more than 20Alaskan communities aim to position JK&Ato “stretch” its dance presence across thisextraordinary locale.On the other extreme of the spectrum,Jodi Kaplan/Booking Dance is currentlyexpanding its presence in Asia and touringselect USA dance companies throughoutChina and the region. For the past fiveyears, Ms. Kaplan has booked highly suc-cessful tours in China’s premiere state-ofthe-art Poly Theaters. In 2019 Ms. Kaplanbrought the Colombia National Ballet fromSouth America on a 28-city tour of Chinaperforming the ballet Don Quixote witha cast of 30 dancers; in 2018 booked theshadow dance company CATAPULT ona 25-city tour of China; in 2017 a recordbreaking 31-city tour for FJK Dance; in 2016a crowd pleasing 29-city/36-performancetour for Bellydance Evolution; and in 2015a 25-city/34-performance tour with StateStreet Ballet’s production of Beauty andthe Beast. Since founding Jodi Kaplan& Associates/Booking Dance two decadesago, she has booked extensive performanceengagements with hundreds of venues inthe United States and internationally.Ms. Kaplan recently forayed into the worldof visual art as an arts producer and curator. She is honored to be creative producerfor Lois Greenfield’s extraordinary photography exhibit “Lois Greenfield: MovingStill” as part of the Bienal de Danza deCali in Colombia, with additional plans totour it to Mexico and throughout SouthAmerica. Ms. Kaplan also conceived ofand produced a six-story art installationat Bryant Park, inspired by the permanentcollection of the Metropolitan Museum ofArt. This unprecedented multi-disciplinaryproject was presented in conjunction withthe Armory show and featured an excitinglineup of performance components andsound designs. She is venturing furtherinto the world of art as a consultant tocurate dance and performing arts programming at museums and galleries worldwide.As a visual designer and event producer,Ms. Kaplan specializes in press and medialaunches with top corporate clients and PRfirms including GolinHarris, Edelman, andPorter Novelli. She has also had screenings at theMetropolitan Museum of Art, the BrooklynMuseum of Art, and a retrospective at theSmithsonian Hirshhorn Museum, as wellas at DanzLenz in Delhi, India, where shealso taught intensive film workshops at theAsian Academy of Film and Television, andwas honored to receive a lifetime membership at this prestigious institution. Her workhas also been broadcast on PBS televisionand the Sundance Channel. Ms. Kaplan is amember of the Screen Actors Guild.From every corner of America, Jodi Kaplan, dance producer extraordinaire, has gatheredeclectic works and woven them into a recipe of pure enjoyment. They shotthe first segment in Western Australia andpresented a program at the Perth Instituteof Contemporary Art. Ms. Kaplan is alsocompleting her boxing/dance film In TheBlood, a creative collaboration with LoisGreenfield that recently previewed at theBienal de Danza de Cali in Colombia. Inaddition to her film work, she has traveledthe world as a photojournalist with CNNand Splash Magazines Worldwide.training includes intensive summer programs with Edward Villella at the EglevskyBallet. Ms. Kaplan holds a B.A. with highhonors in religion and philosophy fromSmith College (Phi Beta Kappa), an M.F.Ain film from Columbia University (honors indirecting), and a graduate diploma in international relations from Hebrew Universityin Jerusalem as a Wallenberg Scholar.Ms. Kaplan has been an artist-in-residencethree times at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs,New York, and a Fulbright Scholar in dancein Jamaica.Ms. Kaplan is a former dancer and choreographer and toured as a guest artist throughout Scotland, England, France, Portugal,Israel, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, andthe Caribbean.
