בס"ד REFLECTIONSFRIDAY, December 17, 2021Candle lighting 4:19 PMLEARNING TORAH, LOVING TORAH, LIVING TORAHDear Parents,Our recent Parent/Teacher Conferences gave me pause for thought, and I would like to share some“hypothetical letters” that originate from different perspectives resonating in my mind:Dear Rebbe, Morah, Teacher,As the parent of one of your students, I want to tell you how grateful I am for all that you do for my child.Teaching a community of children is not easy. Everyone is special to you, I know. I also know that each childhas his own unique vulnerabilities and strengths. Some children are very transparent, and their needs arereadily recognized, but other children are like closed books whose contents are not known until opened.Any child is one of those beautiful “books”, not understood until opened.Pleasing you is a goal he wants to achieve each day. He sometimes acts out to gain your attention butdoesn’t realize he is sabotaging his own objective. May I ask you to find those moments during which hedoes please you, and acknowledge them? You will see that after a few times, he will become a betterstudent. He may not be able to get great grades, but is that the most important goal? I want my son to lookback at his school years and say, “I may not have been the best student, but my Rebbeim/Teachers reallycared about me! I will do what I can to always make them proud of me.” Thank you, and may Hashem grantyou many years of strength to guide and nurture our children.A Grateful ParentThe Rebbe/Morah/Teacher responds:Dear Parents,Each day when your child walks through my classroom door, I see a wonderful student. I see the hopes anddesires of every parent, and I become more and more determined to make the hopes and desires come tofruition. Your child is always on my mind, as I try to hone techniques, create a variety of experiences, and, most of all I do my best to listen to your child. No one knows your child better than you. Please be my partner and let me into the window of your child’sheart. Let me know what makes your child's heart light and easy. What makes your child’s heart flutterwith trepidation? What makes your child laugh? What makes your child cry? Once I know the answers towhat makes his heart-whole, I will then be able to open his mind. Talk to me, work with me, partner withme, and together we will help your child shine in the galaxy of Torah stars!Sincerely,Your child’s Rebbe/ Morah/ Teacher

REFLECTIONS ד"בס LEARNING TORAH, LOVING TORAH, LIVING TORAHDear Rebbe, Morah, and Teacher,First, thank you for all that you do for me. Second, I want to apologize. I know it seems like I don’tappreciate what you do, but I really do. I really like recess and Gym. [Just joking]. I even like reading andscience. Math I know, I know. I’ll try to do better.I just want to explain why I don’t always follow the rules. You see sometimes it is hard for me tounderstand what you are saying. I can hear you, but when the words try to go to my head, they get alljumbled. I get embarrassed and don’t want to ask for help. I think you know that because you do not callon me when I’m confused. You also explain things to me many times. Sometimes I get it, and sometimes Idon’t. I know you have been talking to my parents, and they said I will get help. Thank you. Also, sometimes it is hard for me to settle down after recess. When you told me to go out and take a fewdeep breaths, it really helped. You really understand me. I know that you want me to be a good student. You make me want to work hard, and you never lose patience. I know it’s not easy. I hope that one day Iwill be just like you!Yours Truly,Your StudentDear Parents,There are just whimsical letters that danced around in my mind when ending the first semesterand preparing to begin the second semester. Please know that the letters are fictional in form butdefinitely true in substance.I have been blessed B”H to raise children who are now parents in their own right, I am reveling inbeing a Savta and a “Great Savta”. I have watched “our” children come through the doors of PolitzHebrew Academy and leave to experience their adult lives. I know the highs and the lows of beinga parent and the never-ending worry and never-ending conversations with Hashem. (Trust me,you never stop being a parent to your children). There is no greater gift than the gift of children. They are diamonds that need constant polishing, they need to be stored in a safe place, and they never depreciate. The home and the school share the responsibility of polishing our diamonds, keeping them in theirsafe places, and guiding them down the road of Torah with love. Our “job” is not easy.I watch in wonderment as our faculty work to teach and reach each child, and I am in awe of you,the parents, who devote and even sacrifice so much to send your children to our school. Fromarranging transportation when there are no buses to hiring supplemental tutors, to partneringwith the school during challenging times, you have demonstrated your dedication to yourdiamonds.May Hashem bless our Rebbeim, Moras, Teachers, and Parents to polish our diamonds for manyyears to come in strength and simcha.Good Shabbos,Mrs. Katz

After completing our very own electrical light-upChanukah cards last week, our initial coding class this week exposed us toalgorithms, codes, and bugs. We even got a chance to practice what we had learnedin real life! Several boys were choses to be "robots" (blindfolded) and each "robot"was assigned a "programmer." The job of the "programmer" was to give his "robot"the sequential commands necessary to get from their starting point to their team'sgoal, somewhere in the classroom. The boys got a chance to see first-hand how important it is to be careful in givingVERY precise and clear commands, and the necessity to make sure no steps areskipped in "programming" their "robots."As the series progresses, the boys will have increased opportunities to practice theseskills, and apply them in increasingly sophisticated and advanced settings. Everyoneis looking forward to getting a chance to program Politz's own robots at the end ofthe series.
