Page Three Twenty fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time - September 19, 2021It seems that we have a lot in common with the apostles. We love Jesus; they loved Jesus. We want to follow him; they followed him. We want to please him, and so did they. And like the apostles, we too arebound by our human weaknesses. Today’s Gospel tells us that Jesus was trying to teach the apostles, butthey weren’t really listening. They were discussing arguing about who was the greatest. Doesn’t thissound like the self concerns that can keep us far from the Lord and his people? We shouldn’t look down on the apostles. Like us, they had the natural human tendency to place themselves above those around them. Like us, they had the natural human tendency to think about their needs and desires more than the needs and desires of others. In other words, their hearts needed to be shapedand purified, just as ours do! When Jesus asked about the conversation, the apostles kept quiet. They knew that he didn’t like senseless arguments, so they were reluctant to own up to them. So let’s ask ourselves: “How many timesdo I engage in senseless arguments? How many times have I tried to prove my point while knowing allthe time the argument was trivial?” The apostles eventually outgrew these fallen mind sets. They realized that they were God’s childrenand that they were being entrusted with God’s work. They understood that what counted most was toshow people how to love God and one another. As Jesus did with the apostles, he wants to do with us. He wants to show us a higher way to live. Hewants to show us how noble and pleasing it is to serve others above ourselves. He wants to teach us how to avoid getting caught up in senseless arguments and how to redirect our conversations so that they help promote virtue and love over envy and jealousy. “Jesus, teach me how to put others ahead of myself. I want to be like you, Lord.” God Bless,

RELIGIOUS ARTICLESTORE HOURS Saturday and Sundays During All Masses Monday CLOSED Tuesday 8:30 5:00 pm Wednesday 8:30am 4:30 pm Thursday 8:30 5:00 pm Friday CLOSED MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES Getting Answers to PrayersIn John’s Gospel (chapters 14-17) hequotes Jesus in regard to prayers beinganswered. Eleven different times Jesususes the words ‘whatever’ and ‘anything’we ask for. But there are two qualificationsfor getting answers: “If you remain in me and my wordsremain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will bedone for you.”‘Anything’ and ‘whatever’ are very broad. It sounds like ablank check. But if we are remaining in him and his wordsare remaining in us, it is unlikely that we will ask forsomethingthat he would not want for us. So how do we remain in him?John 15:10 says, “If you keep my commandments, youwill remain in my love.” So, we can have anything(whatever) we ask for if we keep his commandments. What else can it mean than reading and applying thewords of Jesus? That won’t happen if we don’t open ourBibles to the gospels. His words cannot remain in us ifthey weren’t first absorbed. Do we want answers to ourprayers badly enough to develop a Bible study/ prayerroutine? So, let’s do that to get whatever we ask for. Is there acatch? No. But note that Jesus said nothing about‘whenever’, ‘however’ and ‘whoever.’ God is sovereign. We don’t get to dictate when he will give us the whatever, nor how he will give it to us, nor whom he may or may notuse to turn our prayer to reality. That’s where our faithhas to grow. And speculation has to stop. We rest in thesure knowledge that we have met the criteria for‘anything’. We have digested his words; they arememorized and recallable and we are applying them. Theanswer is now a done deal. Faith waits for the when, howand who. When it’s settled in our minds to ask, in his will, forwhatever, then we set our minds on the answer and knowthat it is on the way. Let’s be bold. Ask for big things.Peace be with you!John Pisula, Grand Knight: jpisula@att.netJoe Cox, Council Lecturer: ttp://koc12240.org/

Foreward - In this book Fr. Carter speaks of Godas the ultimate mystery. We can meditate on the interior life ofthe Trinity. The Trinity is the most perfect community. Fr.Carter tells us about our uniqueness in the Father's Plan forus, how the individual Christian, the Church and the world arein the state of becoming - Our incorporation into the mystery ofChrist at baptism, and the gradual maturing of that life in theprocess of becoming, is centered in the pattern of deathresurrection. Some of the characteristics of this new spiritualityinclude the following: It is rooted in liturgy and Scripture; it issignificantly personalistic in its stress on the Christian's I Thourelationship with God and others; it is experiencing a strongincarnational trend as the Church calls her members to a morevital involvement with the temporal and terrestrial aspects ofChrist's kingdom; and it shows a keen interest in religiouspsychology and religious anthropology. Despite its process ofrenewal and change, however, contemporary spiritualitycannot sever itself from the authentic spiritual tradition thathas preceded it. Consequently, we must learn how to unitecontemporary trends with the authentic, essential elementsthat have constantly inserted themselves throughout thehistory of Christian spirituality. To unite the contemporary withthe traditional is one of the aims of this book. Another purposeis to present a unified overview of the spiritual life. I dohope, however, that this modest work will be an aid tocommitted Christians as they form their own personalsyntheses of their Christian existence. Such a unified view ishighly desirable and becomes increasingly important as oneprogresses in the spiritual life. Because although that goodhas a beginning, it will not have an end. And nothaving an end, it is necessary that the good uniforms itself to the ways of the Eternal God. Godis just, holy, merciful. It is He who contains everything. But, perhaps for only one sole day? No.Always, always, always. Therefore, a soul mustnot one day be patient, humble, obedient, andanother day be impatient, proud, and capricious. These are virtues periodically practiced. Itis a mix of black and white, light and darkness;everything is disordered, confusion; ways dissimilar to its Creator. For the constant soul, everything is peace. Constancy already makes everything remain in its place, and the passions already feel themselves dying. And who, beingnear to death, thinks about making war againstsomeone? Constancy is a sword that makeseverything flee. For information on Living in the Divine Will callRosalie 954 290 0436 or Cecilia Gomez DelCampo 954 240 5731 In the Will of God, Always !
