Parents can help their child witheither of these activities.IDEA 2: Verse ShapesWhat You Need Play-Doh Rolling pins Heart and cross cookie cutters An Apple Acres entrance booklet for each childFlatten a piece of Play-Doh with a rolling pin. Say“God loved us” and make a heart with a cookie cutter.Say “and sent His Son” and make a cross. Let Cubbiescopy you. Cubbies can also make a cross by rollingtwo “snakes” between their hands: a longer snakeand a shorter snake. The shorter snake is laid acrossthe longer snake to make a cross. For example, you could ask, “Jordan,have you sinned?” Name sins typical of preschoolersto make the concept of sin more concrete. However,don’t embarrass or shame the child; rather, point toChrist. Christ never sinned, but we all sin. That’s whywe need the Savior!Give extra time and attention to those Cubbies whodid not work on the verse at home with a parent.Reach out to these Cubbies’ parents with a phonecall, note or face-to-face greeting. Kindly emphasizethe essential role parents play in Cubbies. To help Cubbiesknow what shapes to color, color a sample picture forthem or print a copy of the color version of this activitysheet (resource CD). Talk about Christ’s death onthe cross for us. For extra fun, let Cubbies glue tissuesquares on the cross so it resembles stained glass.Challenge advanced Cubbies to cut out the cross.Punch a hole at the top of each cross and tie a strandof yarn through the hole. You could also have kidspaint only glue on the land and then, with a leader’shelp, pour sand onto the paper over a pan.
