Equipping The SaintsMinistry Outreach PlanThe next three pages are the most important pages in the Equipping The Saints course for severalreasons. They: make the Equipping The Saints course an on-the-job training program, make the Equipping The Saints course training practical and not just cognitive, and make the disciple reproduce in others what is being taught. The end product or objective of Equipping The Saints is to make you a reproducing disciple. From theonset of your training you must start praying for two people to win to Christ. This engages you in evangelism—fishing for people. You also begin praying for one person to disciple. This causes you to reachback into the church for people who are not growing the way they should in their walk with God.Ministry Prayer GuideOn the next page you will find the Ministry Prayer Guide. This will help you identify potential peoplefor your ministry.Non-Christian FriendsMake a list of all your non-Christian friends and begin to pray for them. When you have peace from Godabout a name, move the person to the evangelism section of your Ministry Discipleship Guide and followtheir four line syllabus. Move the person to the Ministry Prayer Tree in the space marked “Convert”.Christian FriendsMake a list of Christian friends who do not seem to be growing in their walk with God. When you havea commitment from a person to go through Equipping The Saints with you, write the name in theDisciple-Making section of your Ministry Discipleship Guide and on your Ministry Prayer Tree on theline marked “Disciple.”Ministry Prayer TreeThe Ministry Prayer Tree helps you visualize God’s plan for your ministry. Write your name in the box onthe left side of the page. The three you win and disciple must be trained to reproduce the next generation.Set your heart now to labor until at least this page is filled with your spiritual children. What a wonderfulgift of obedience this would be to present to your Savior at the Judgment Seat of Christ!Ministry Discipleship GuideThis guide will direct you in what to do with your converts and disciples until we get to this subject matter laterin your training.EvangelismThe four-point outline will guide you in what to do with the people you want to win.DiscipleshipThe nine-point outline will guide you in what to do with your new convert or disciple as you help theperson grow toward discipleship. Both of these initial guides will be replaced in lessons 2/13 and 2/14 by a more detailed instructive guide.ix

CHAPTER NINENOTESAssuranceof SalvationIntroductionWhen a person becomes a Child of God, there are certaintruths that God wants him to know. One of the most important of these truths for a new babe in Christ has to dowith assurance of salvation. These things I have written to you who believein the name of the Son of God, that you mayknow that you have eternal life, and that youmay continue to believe in the name of the Sonof God.1 John 5:13In the Greek, there are two words for know: Ginosko to come to know (progressiveknowledge which enlarges and growsas time passes). Oidafull knowledge (complete and cannotbe improved upon; perfect or fullnessof knowledge).Oida is the Greek word used in 1 John 5:13. It means thatwe have the full knowledge and the full assurance that wehave eternal life through Jesus Christ. Both W. E. Vineand Kenneth S. Wuest bring out the distinction betweenthese words in their New Testament Greek Word Studies.Definition of AssuranceAssurance is the believer’s complete conviction or guarantee that through the finished work of Christ upon the cross3

NOTESwhich he has received by faith, he now has eternal life andwill be eternally kept by God.Facts Concerning Assurance God wants us to know that we have eternal life. It is available to every believer. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hearsMy word and believes in Him who sent Mehas everlasting life, and shall not come intojudgment, but has passed from death into life.John 5:24 It requires belief in Jesus Christ. And this is the testimony: that God has givenus eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Hewho has the Son has life; he who does not havethe Son of God does not have life.1 John 5:11,12 We have eternal life and shall never perish. And I give them eternal life, and they shallnever perish; neither shall anyone snatch themout of My hand.John 10:28There is therefore now no condemnation tothose who are in Christ Jesus, who do notwalk according to the flesh, but according tothe Spirit.Romans 8:1 No one can take us from God’s hand.My Father, who has given them to Me, is greaterthan all; and no one is able to snatch them outof My Father’s hand.John 10:294

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, northings present nor things to come, nor heightnor depth, nor any other created thing, shall beable to separate us from the love of God whichis in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:38,39NOTES Inheritance is incorruptible and undefiled, reservedin Heaven for us.Elect according to the foreknowledge of Godthe Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, forobedience and sprinkling of the blood of JesusChrist: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist, who according to His abundant mercyhas begotten us again to a living hope throughthe resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, toan inheritance incorruptible and undefiled andthat does not fade away, reserved in heaven foryou, who are kept by the power of God throughfaith for salvation ready to be revealed in thelast time.1 Peter 1:2-5 We have been sealed by the Holy Spirit untilour redemption. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose ofHim who works all things according to thecounsel of His will, that we who first trustedin Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard theword of truth, the gospel of your salvation;in whom also, having believed, you weresealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, whois the guarantee of our inheritance until theredemption of the purchased possession, to thepraise of His glory.Ephesians 1:11-145

NOTES The indwelling Holy Spirit witnesses with our ownspirit that we are children of God and joint heirswith Christ. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spiritthat we are children of God, and if children, thenheirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may alsobe glorified together.Romans 8:16,17 Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life—those whobelieve in Him will never die.Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and thelife. He who believes in Me, though he may die,he shall live. And whoever lives and believes inMe shall never die. Do you believe this?”John 11:25,26Basis of AssuranceUnchangeable TruthsThus God, determining to show more abundantlyto the heirs of promise the immutability of Hiscounsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by twoimmutable things, in which it is impossible forGod to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hopeset before us. This hope we have as an anchorof the soul, both sure and steadfast, and whichenters the Presence behind the veil, where theforerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, havingbecome High Priest forever according to theorder of Melchizedek.Hebrews 6:17-206

Unconditional PromisesNOTESFor God so loved the world that He gave Hisonly begotten Son, that whoever believes in Himshould not perish but have everlasting life.John 3:16Completeness of AtonementNot with the blood of goats and calves, but withHis own blood He entered the Most Holy Placeonce for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashesof a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies forthe purifying of the flesh, how much more shallthe blood of Christ, who through the eternalSpirit offered Himself without spot to God, purgeyour conscience from dead works to serve theliving God?Hebrews 9:12-14Righteousness of ChristBut of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who becamefor us wisdom from God—and righteousness andsanctification and redemption.1 Corinthians 1:30Inner Witness of the SpiritThe Spirit Himself bears witness with our spiritthat we are children of God, and if children, thenheirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may alsobe glorified together.Romans 8:16,177

NOTESLife and SonshipAnd this is the testimony: that God has given useternal life, and this life is in His Son. He whohas the Son has life; he who does not have theSon of God does not have life.1 John 5:11,12But as many as received Him, to them He gavethe right to become children of God, even to thosewho believe in His name.John 1:12Doesn’t Assurance of SalvationEncourage a Person to Sin? No! Love of God is the highest form of motivation. God still disciplines wayward Christians—sometimes severely. And you have forgotten the exhortation whichspeaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despisethe chastening of the Lord, nor be discouragedwhen you are rebuked by Him; For whom theLord loves He chastens, and scourges every sonwhom He receives.” If you endure chastening,God deals with you as with sons; for what sonis there whom a father does not chasten? But ifyou are without chastening, of which all havebecome partakers, then you are illegitimate andnot sons.Hebrews 12:5-8 Obedience motivated by fear will eventually destroy itself. Sin prevents a Christian from discovering God’s bestfor his life. Therefore, most Christians who seek God’swill, will resist sin.8

A man’s accountability at the Judgment Seat of Christand loss of rewards are deterrents to sin.NOTESFor we must all appear before the judgment seatof Christ, that each one may receive the thingsdone in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.2 Corinthians 5:10What Happens When a Person Sins?SIN Fellowship with God and man is broken until it is confessed and forgiven—his salvation is not lost.David lost the joy of salvation after his sin against God—but not his salvation.Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, Anduphold me with Your generous Spirit.Psalm 51:12 Saul remained God’s anointed one despite all his failure. And David said to him, “How was it you werenot afraid to put forth your hand to destroy theLord’s anointed?”2 Samuel 1:14 Isaiah teaches that there is a broken fellowship—not relationship.9

NOTESBehold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, thatit cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannothear. But your iniquities have separated youfrom your God; and your sins have hidden Hisface from you, so that He will not hear.Isaiah 59:1,2 The rewards which a man wins for faithful serviceare endangered.A man’s salvation is not his reward since the Bible teachesthat it is a gift of God.God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.But without faith it is impossible to please Him,for he who comes to God must believe that He is,and that He is a rewarder of those who diligentlyseek Him.Hebrews 11:6 If a person’s works do not stand the test of fire, he willsuffer loss, but he himself will be saved. Each one’s work will become manifest; for theDay will declare it, because it will be revealedby fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, ofwhat sort it is. If anyone’s work which he hasbuilt on it endures, he will receive a reward. Ifanyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; buthe himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.1 Corinthians 3:13-15 Salvation is a gift of God—not of works. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,not of works, lest anyone should boast.Ephesians 2:8,910

Importance of TeachingNOTES It gives the young Christian a better grasp of:The LOVE of GodThe GRACE of GodThe MERCY of GodThe FORGIVENESS of God Unless a person has proper understanding of thisdoctrine, it is very difficult for him to grow to maturity in Christ since he is constantly going back to re-establish the foundation of his faith. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the firstprinciples of the oracles of God; and you havecome to need milk and not solid food. Foreveryone who partakes only of milk is unskilledin the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of fullage, that is, those who by reason of use have theirsenses exercised to discern both good and evil. Therefore, leaving the discussion of theelementary principles of Christ, let us go on toperfection, not laying again the foundation ofrepentance from dead works and of faith towardGod, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on ofhands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternaljudgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible for those who were onceenlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and thepowers of the age to come, if they fall away, to11

NOTES12renew them again to repentance, since theycrucify again for themselves the Son of God, andput Him to an open shame.Hebrews 5:12-6:6
