JamesMcNultyHAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALLOF OUR FATHERS!Today we celebrate Father’s Day.We honor all of our Fathers and givethanks and praise to God for the giftthey are in our lives. Father’s Day exists almost all over the world; in factover 25 countries celebrate Father’sDay with us on the third Sunday ofJune. We rely on our Fathers for somany things. They are frequently astabilizing force in our families. Theyfrequently work very hard to supportus financially. In fact, more collect telephone calls are made on Father’sDay than on any other day. I guesswe think our Father’s can pay the bill!Today, we must pray for all of our Fathers.A father figure can be very important to our children, particularly forour young boys and men. I am particularly aware of this as I look back onmy life as my father died when I wasjust a teen. I was very blessed by thenumber of men in my life that becamesurrogate fathers. Keep in mind if youare a father that you may be an important father figure not just for yourown children but also for other youngboys and men in your life. If you haveno children of your own, you mayhave surrogate children. Be carefulwhat you say and do. They are watching and listening.Men in the second half of life havethe responsibility to bless and affirmour young men. As we get older, sometimes we see younger men as athreat. They remind us of the dayswhen we were healthier, faster, quicker mentally and younger. In thesecond half of life, it is our responsibility to mentor the next generationto take over for us, to slow downand let the younger guy do the running. That is the natural order ofthings, to affirm and bless our youthand empower them to be all thatGod has planned for them to be. Weare relying on this younger generation to carry on when we are gone.I have talked to men who longedto be blessed and affirmed by theirfathers, but never were. Fathers, bless and affirm your sons whenyou have the chance. They arelonging for your affirmation. Men inthe second half of life, bless andaffirm our younger generation.Sons, honor your fathers and yoursurrogate fathers as well. We needthem very much.Love and Peace,Fr. JimPARISH MISSION STATEMENTNourished by the celebration of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, in aneffort to become a more evangelizing Parish, St. Edith Parish is called to build awelcoming community of faith and service, continuing the mission and ministry ofJesus Christ.

12th Sunday in Ordinary TimeReading 1JER 20:10-13Jeremiah said:“I hear the whisperings of many:‘Terror on every side!Denounce! let us denounce him!’All those who were my friendsare on the watch for any misstep ofmine.‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then wecan prevail, and take our vengeance on him.’But the LORD is with me, like amighty champion:my persecutors will stumble, they willnot triumph. In their failure they will be put to uttershame,to lasting, unforgettable confusion.O LORD of hosts, you who test thejust, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance youtake on them, for to you I have entrusted mycause.Sing to the LORD,praise the LORD,for he has rescued the life of thepoorfrom the power of the wicked!”The Word of The LordR: Thanks be to GodResponsorial PsalmPS 69:8-10, 14, 17, 33-35R. (14c) Lord, in your great love, answer me. .Page 3Reading IIROM 5:12-15Brothers and sisters:Through one man sin entered theworld, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men, inasmuch as all sinned—for up to the time of the law, sin was inthe world, though sin is not accounted whenthere is no law.But death reigned from Adam toMoses, even over those who did not sinafter the pattern of the trespass ofAdam, who is the type of the one who was tocome. But the gift is not like thetransgression. For if by the transgression of the onethe many died, how much more did the grace of Godand the gracious gift of the one manJesus Christ overflow for the many. The Word of the LordR: Thanks be to GodGospelMT 10:26-33Jesus said to the Twelve:“Fear no one.Nothing is concealed that will not berevealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;what you hear whispered, proclaimon the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who killthe body but cannot kill the soul;rather, be afraid of the one who candestroyboth soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a smallcoin?Yet not one of them falls to theground without your Father’sknowledge.Even all the hairs of your head arecounted. So do not be afraid; you are worthmore than many sparrows.Everyone who acknowledges mebefore othersI will acknowledge before myheavenly Father. But whoever denies me beforeothers,I will deny before my heavenlyFather.”The Gospel of the LordR: Praise to you Lord Jesus ChristNICENE CREEDI believe in one God,the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all things visible and invisible.I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,born of the Father before all ages,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made, consubstantialwith the Father;through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvationhe came down from heaven,(all bow)and by the Holy Spirit was incarnateof the Virgin Mary, and became man.For our sake he was crucified underPontius Pilate,he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third dayin accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of theFather,He will come again in gloryto judge the living and the deadand his kingdom will have no end.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, thegiver of life, who proceeds from the Father and theSon,who with the Father and the Son isadored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.I believe in one, holy, catholic andapostolic Church,I confess one Baptism for theforgiveness of sinsand I look forward to the resurrection ofthe deadand the life of the world to come.Amen.
