THE UN IQ UE N E SS OF THE RECOVERY VERSI ON1The Recovery Version—A Unique Study BibleThe word Bible comes from the Greek word biblos, which means “thebook.” This means that the Bible stands as the unique book amongall the books in the world. Although it was written by men in humanlanguage, it is unique because its nature is divine. The apostle Paul’sword to Timothy tells us that “all Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Tim. 3:16).This indicates that the Scriptures did not come out of man’s thought, man’s mind; rather, God breathed His thought and His word through HisSpirit into and out of the writers. Thus, the Bible contains God’s elementsand carries His flavor. The greatest blessing and joy in human life is tocontact God and taste Him through the words of the Bible (Psa. 119:103).As the unique book, the Bible is a book of divine truth. The truthscontained in the Bible concern God and His eternal plan, man andhis destiny, Christ with His person and work, the Holy Spirit in man’sexperience of God, the complete salvationof God for man, the church as God’scorporate people, the kingdom of God,and the New Jerusalem in the new heavenand new earth. The greatest blessingAccording to the facts of history, afterand joy in human life isthe writing of the Bible was completed, tocontact God and tasteover the succeeding centuries the truthsin the Bible gradually became lost orHim through the wordsmisunderstood. For many years the Bibleof the Bible.was even locked away so that thecommon people could not read it.In the sixteenth century, at the time of theReformation, God began to recover thelost truths of the Bible. In the followingcenturies, God used a number of Hisservants to progressively recover the truths in His Word. Those used byGod in each generation inherited the truths recovered by theirpredecessors and went further to receive more light from God throughHis Word. Eventually, at the end of the twentieth century the recovery ofthe biblical truths was essentially complete. The Recovery Version is unique among all of the study Bibles availabletoday. More than being an accurate and readable translation of thebiblical text, the Recovery Version contains additional elements that

2THE UN IQ UE N E SS OF THE RECOVERY VERSI ONconvey the full breadth of the divine truths breathed out by God throughthe original writers of the Bible and recovered by God’s people over thepast five hundred years. The outlines, footnotes, and cross-references inthe Recovery Version unveil the divine revelation in the Scriptures andguide the reader into a discovery of the rich treasures hidden belowthe surface of the printed pages. Now, in the twenty-first century, theRecovery Version stands out as the Bible for our generation. The Recovery Version is also unique because it relates all the divinetruths in the Bible to one crucial matter—the economy of God. TheBible uses the word economy to describe God’s great enterprise in theuniverse, which is to dispense Himself into man so that He and manmay be one (Eph. 1:10; 3:9; 1 Tim. 1:4). God can be likened to a wealthybusinessman who has an enormous amount of capital. God has a“business” in this universe, and His vast wealth is simply Himself. BecauseGod has the desire to distribute Himself with all His riches into man,He has a plan, a divine arrangement, adivine economy. This economy is thecentral theme of the Bible. The truthsof the Bible are like the pieces of ajigsaw puzzle. In order to interlock theThe outlines, footnotes, scattered pieces of a puzzle correctly, and cross-referenceswe need to be guided by the picture onthe box. Likewise, in order to understandin the Recovery Versionthe various truths in the Bible in theirunveil the divine revelationproper context, we need to look at the“picture on the box” of the Bible, thatin the Scriptures.is, at the central theme of the Bibleunfolded from Genesis to Revelation.Everything God did in the past, is doingin the present, and will do in the future isfor the accomplishing of His economy. The revelation of God’s economyputs all the biblical truths into their proper perspective. The unveilingof the truth in the Bible from the perspective of God’s economy is thefoundation of all Christian experience. It is God’s desire that all men come to the full knowledge of the truthaccording to His divine economy (1 Tim. 2:4). We sincerely hope that allGod’s seekers will benefit from the unveiled truth in the Recovery Versionand, even more, that the truth will become their experience as theirpersonal reality.

To believe into Himis to receive Him. As the all-inclusive Spirit(2 Cor. 3:17), He enters into us and dwells inour spirit (2 Tim. 4:22) to be everything to us.

SA MP LE STUDY U SI NG THE TOPI CAL DI RECTORYNow, let’s look at John 3:16, the next verse in our subtopic.John 3:1616 For God so aloved the 1world that He bgave Hisconly begotten Son, that everyone who 2dbelieves intoHim would not perish, but would have eternal life. Then read footnote 162 to see more clearly what it is tobelieve into Christ.Footnote 162162 Believing into the Lord is not the same asbelieving Him (6:30). To believe Him is to believethat He is true and real, but to believe into Him isto receive Him and be united with Him as one. Theformer is to acknowledge a fact objectively; thelatter is to receive a life subjectively. Finally, cross-reference 16d directs you to two other versesin John which speak of believing into Christ.John 3:36John 6:4036 He who abelieves into the Son has eternal life;but he who disobeys the Son shall not see life, butthe wrath of God abides upon him.40 For this is the will of my Father, that every onewho beholds the Son and believes into Himshould have eternal life, and I will raise him upin the last day. After studying this topic in God’s Word, it is clear that to believe intoChrist is to receive Him. The result of believing is that we receive eternallife, the life of God, and become children of God who are born of Him.If you have not already done so, we urge you to make this truth yourpersonal reality by praying this simple prayer:“Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I need You. I believe into You.Take away all my sins. I receive You as my life. I open my heart to You.Lord Jesus come into me. Make me a child of God. Thank You, LordJesus. Amen.”Having received Christ by believing into Him, you now have the fullassurance that you are a child of God.13
