The Viewfinder Bowie-Crofton Camera ClubVolume 35, Number 2 October, 2015Body of WorkPhoto Talk - October 12by Steve Bruza, VP Photo Talkand some artists have created various cutting-edgeways to present their vision. For example, what if thehuman body is used as a canvas to support or enhancea still life photograph? We all know a body of work is a collection ofan artist’s artwork which demonstrates an overallsignature style. Simply put, it is artwork that is instantlyrecognizable as produced by a specific artist, forexample, an Andy Warhol print, or an Ansel Adamsphotograph. You recognize their art instantly as theycreated a body of work which they developed andperfected over a period of many years, but what if thework starts by using the body? We will explore thistopic at our Photo Talk on October 12.At our Photo Talk meeting we will see an amazingtechnique that combines photography and paintingto create surprising images. We do this to get clubmembers comfortable talking about photography andperhaps suggest a few new ideas that you might wantto try. Next we will review the digital entries from theprevious competition night. It is a great opportunity todiscuss our work in a more relaxed setting beyond justwhat the judge thought. We know that the first stepto developing a successful body of work is definingyour artistic style and that is why our lively Photo Talkdiscussions are a perfect way to help you sharpen yourphotographic skills.Photographers often use still life to set a specificscene often with bowls of fruit or arrangements offlowers, particularly useful since they do not move andcan be precisely illuminated, although what if you wantto insert a human element? This can be challengingNovember Competition JudgeRoger Miller will judge for the “Team Sports” themeby Clarence Carvell, Competition AssistantRoger Miller has been a commercial photographerand book publisher for the last 35 years. The Viewfinder Bowie-Crofton Camera ClubVolume 35, Number 2 October, 2015Our Website Wants Your Images!A great way to be seenby George Smyth, WebmasterIf you have had a chance to look at B-CCC.org youwill probably have noticed that it does not appearas it did during the last club year. I have streamlineda number of things and most importantly madeit friendly to mobile devices. The most obviousdifference, however, is that I am using images todecorate the background of each page, with a link tothe full image, the name of the photographer, and alink to their website (if they have included the link intheir profile) at the bottom.is soliciting current members to send me up to tenimages per month that will go into the pool. When apage is requested, an image is randomly selected fromthe pool and used as the background to that page.So if you are a current member and have some greatimages from your backyard, a field trip, or the otherside of the world that you would like to share, thensend up to ten images per month to George.Smyth@gmail.com. Send large files, as I will optimize them forthe Web and add them to the pool (I will not showanything less than 1024 x 768 in size). Currently thereare only about thirty images and I would like to seemany hundreds available to be shared with anyonewho visits our website. My initial idea was to draw these images fromcompetition, but there is so much great photographyoutside of competition that I decided to use theexisting competition images merely a starting pointand then go in a different direction.
