Joyce was the inspiration behind the National Center for Children’sIllustrated Literature. More sculptures followed over the years. Today, Abilene is hometo the largest public collection of storybook sculptures in the U.S. New characters areadded each year during the Children’s Art & Literacy Festival. The mission of the StorybookSculpture Project is to create 3D art that brings children’s literature to life.3
