Andthat one becomes many.

12STONE CHURCHFounded by Kevin Myers on November 1,1987, 12Stone Church of Lawrenceville, Georgia, had a slow start for several years, then gainedmomentum and has since grown rapidlyto become the largest Wesleyan churchin the world.12Stone has weekly attendance of 15,000across four campuses — Lawrenceville,Hamilton Mill, Flowery Branch, and Sugarloaf. The purpose of 12Stone Church is to inspire life, share life, and give life because Jesus said,“I have come that they may have life andhave it to the full.” — John 10:10The mission of The Maxwell Leadership Centeris an expression of this purpose. At The Maxwell Leadership Center, 12Stone willinspire and develop next generation ministryleaders in a “live lab” setting similar to that ofa teaching hospital.12STONE CHURCH SUGARLOAFOne church, many locations.12Stone Church at Sugarloaf was planted in January2012 at Peachtree Ridge High School. After meetingin their temporary location for two years whereweekly attendance grew to nearly 800, they arenow at home in their new campus complete witha 1,000 seat worship center and substantial spacefor Children’s Ministry. 12Stone is committed tobeing a force for good by partnering with local andglobal organizations aligned with the philosophy ofeveryday compassion and life transformation.

BIG DREAM, BOLD CROSSINGS,AND LEADERSHIP LEGACIESThe Maxwell Leadership Center weaves the lives of two men whose Godgiven dreams intersected for an exponential spiritual leadership impact.1974As a pastor, when John Maxwell came tothe conclusion that “everything rises andfalls on leadership,” he gave his heart andmind to delivering this message.1979Listening in was 17-year-old Kevin Myers, whom God called to full-time ministry. As he pursued Maxwell’s leadershiptraining and books, (through collegeand first church), he developed an earlyunderstanding of leadership.1987Kevin and Marcia moved to northeastAtlanta to plant Crossroads CommunityChurch (now 12Stone Church) inGwinnett County, Georgia. With the longdistance support from both KentwoodCommunity Church and the WesleyanDenomination, they started by goingdoor to door, raising up a core group.1991For the first several years, Myers facedchallenges that produced frustration anddesperation. In one of those desperatemoments he prayed, “If you want thischurch to grow, Lord, you need to giveme a mentor like John Maxwell.”1997When one of Maxwell’s leadershipconferences came as close to Georgiaas North Carolina, Myers loaded upa bus of volunteers to hear Maxwellspeak. After a series of God-ordainedcircumstances at the conference,Maxwell offered to mentor Myerswithout Myers even asking.2009Myers approached Maxwell regardingthe concept of a leadership centerconnected to the local church using hisname to honor and continue his legacy.Maxwell revealed that God had givenhim a dream about a leadership centerlinked to a local church (years ago whilehe was a pastor), but over that time hethought the dream was lost. Maxwellquickly realized his dream was not lost —simply migrated by God from San Diegoto Atlanta. The extra blessing of how itplayed out was that the dreamwas being fulfilled via theinvestment he had madein Myers as a leader.2013During 12Stone Church’s 25th anniversarycelebration, Maxwell presented Myerswith a brick excavated from the JohnWesley Chapel in England. He hadpurchased it to be the cornerstone ofhis dream leadership center as a symbolof God anointing leaders like Wesley.Maxwell knew the value of influencingthe next generation. So, he transferredknowledge, experience, resources, passion, his name, and ultimately adream that would have an exponentialimpact on the future of leadership forgenerations to come.2014John and Kevin co-authored the bookHome Run. And the Maxwell Centeropened its doors.

WILLIAMS AUDITORIUMThis state-of-the-art, broadcast-readyrecording auditorium is where John Maxwellwill produce his digital leadership libraryfor business and ministry. Additionally, other leaders will produce lessons forthe Maxwell Center and the church.“What if I’m the one God wants to use?”John Williams asked this of Kevin Myersat a critical time during 12Stone’s history.Williams began attending 12Stonein 2002. The owner of a nationallyrecognized Toyota Dealership, (amongothers) John found that as his businesswas growing his personal and spirituallife was deepening. With the same entrepreneurial spirit,Williams and Myers shared insightson faith and business. Myers invitedWilliams to pray and advise himregarding potential donors for theleadership center. Unbeknownst toMyers, God was challenging Williamswith generosity for the leadership center. After a series of donor dead ends anda God-ordained business deal, Williamsbelieved God was asking him to makea significant contribution to equipand train next-generation leaders.”When God calls you,” says Williams,“He expects obedience.”The Williams Auditorium is named tohonor the Williams Family Foundationfor their generous donation.

Cones are seedpods—a perfect symbol for emerging leaders.they take root and grow. Only then canCones also have a signature shape—an exponential pattern that matchesthe boundless growth brought aboutwhen leaders develop leaders.

“True success comes only when every generationcontinues to develop the next generation.”— JOHN C. MAXWELLThis kingdom work has been “built onthe foundation of the apostles andprophets, with Christ Jesus as the chiefcornerstone.” — Ephesians 2:20John Wesley was one such leader —he took the gospel outside the churchto reach spiritually lost people (salvationby faith) as the world became his parish. When Jesus founded the Church, He didso by raising up leaders to participate inHis great work of restoring humanity toHimself. This began with the 12 apostles. Those initial 12 influenced generations ofleaders who have followed their examplein carrying the gospel to the world.Following Wesley, today’s leaders likeJohn Maxwell and 12Stone Church seekto influence the next generation in thisplace to take up the great work ofJesus Christ in the world.
