October 3, 202127th Sunday in Ordinary TimeRespect Life Sunday by Fr. Michael KerschenOctober is Respect Life Month, calling our attention to the dignity ofevery human life. This year, our reflection comes through St. Joseph’seyes, who defended Jesus’ life with the courage and strength of a father.“Do not be afraid.” This is what the angel told Joseph in a dreamupon learning that his wife, Mary, was pregnant. Joseph rose andtook Mary into his home. He cared for her and for her unborn childwhom Joseph would name Jesus. (Mt 1:18-25)“There was no room for them in the inn.” During the couple’s trip toBethlehem for enrollment, it came time for Mary to give birth to herchild. No doubt distraught that they were away from home for thisimportant moment, Joseph nonetheless searched tirelessly for aplace to shelter and rest his family, making the best of a difficultsituation. (Lk 2:1-7)“Out of Egypt I called my son.” Hosea’s prophecy was fulfilled whenJoseph took his family as refugees into Egypt to escape Herod’styrannical pursuit of Jesus’ life. They stayed there, in a foreign placeamong unfamiliar people, until it was safe to return to the PromisedLand. (Mt 2:13-15)“Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.”In the hidden life of Nazareth, Jesus was nourished by the love of hisfamily. Joseph taught him many things, including how to work withhis hands and how to pray. In Nazareth, under the providentfatherhood of Joseph, was formed a life that would soon be offeredfor the salvation of the world. (Lk 2:52)God Himself trusted Joseph, placing His own divine and vulnerablelife under his fatherly care.St. Joseph, defender of life, pray for us!WEEKEND MASS: Saturday 7am & 4:30pm Sunday 7:30am, 9:30am, 11:30am, 4:30pmWEEKDAY MASS: Monday-Friday 7:00am Tuesday-Friday 8:00am and 5:30pmCONFESSION:Saturday 3:30-4:15pm Weekdays - 20 minutes before MassParish Office 316-634-2315, 12626 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67206School Office 316-634-1572, 2221 N. 127th St. E., Wichita, KS 67226For sacramental emergencies, please call 316-768-7199www.magdalenwichita.com info@magdalenwichita.comChurch of the Magdalen@MagdalenWichitaMagdalen WichitaRev. I’llstart with this: your marriageis important. Really important.Important enough for Jesusto make clear boundariesabout it. Marriage betweena man and a woman reflectsthe covenantal relationship between Christ and His Church. The exclusive, faithfullove between a man and woman is a sign to the world of the love that God has forHis Church. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus sets a clear command about the sanctity of marriage:it is indissoluble. Marriage is a vocation, and therefore a path to holiness. True loverequires sacrifice; we give up what we want for the good of the other, and hopefullyour spouses do the same for us. Working on our marriages is not easy, but it is deeplyimportant. After all, in the sacrament of marriage we become one flesh with our spouse.I must try to remember daily that my husband is a part of me and I am a part of him.Sometimes we bicker or have trouble communicating. We each have our selfishtendencies and baggage. But by apologizing and forgiving, we become more likeGod. In our efforts to communicate well in the different seasons of our life, we showthe other that we are willing to go the extra mile for our marriage. When we put asideour selfishness and sacrifice for each other, we demonstrate true love.In His mercy, God does not leave married couples alone in their struggles. This is fromthe Catechism: “By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin,he himself [Christ] gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimensionof the Reign of God. It is by following Christ, renouncing themselves, and taking uptheir crosses that spouses will be able to ‘receive’ the original meaning of marriageand live it with the help of Christ. This grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ'scross, the source of all Christian life” (CCC 1615).PARISH CONTACTSNew ParishionersParish Office, 634-2315Baptism & Wedding InformationParish Office, 634-2315Preparation required. Mary’s 15 Promises of the Rosary by Kendra EngelsOne way to handle the many stresses of this world is through prayer, specifically by praying the Rosary. The Rosary is a meditation that helps usbe more mindful, allowing us to focus and reflect on what the words of each prayer means while calming our mind. By praying to Marythrough the Rosary and asking for her intercession with Jesus we also receive many wonderful blessings, including Mary’s fifteen promises tothe faithful who recite the Rosary.1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shallreceive signal graces.2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all thosewho shall recite the Rosary.3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for soulsthe abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the heart of men fromthe love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire ofeternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of theRosary, shall not perish.6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to theconsideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered bymisfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not by anunprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God,and become worthy of eternal life.7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not diewithout the sacraments of the Church.8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during theirlife and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of Hisgraces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the meritsof the saints in paradise.9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to theRosary.10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of gloryin heaven.11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.12. All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by me intheir necessities.13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of theRosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court duringtheir life and at the hour of death.14. All who recite the Rosary are my son, and brothers of my only sonJesus Christ.15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.LITURGICAL MINISTERS & MORE: OCT. 9 & 10Sat. 4:30pmALTAR SERVERSL. CheeverB. FulghumI. GiminoK. SantonilJ. TranMASS CAPTAINSB.
