Use the simple suggestionas it is or expand upon it as you feel led. e most important part is to committo 40 days of praying!If some faithful members can meet daily, so much the better, but if not, do notlet that discourage you. Pray alone when necessary and meet whenever possibleto join together in agreement in prayer. Gather two or three (or more) people ina home or a church or anywhere and the Lord will be with you and hear yourprayers as it says in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered in myname, there I am in the midst of them.”1) Today, pray that the Lord would give youa personal sense of responsibility for thenext 40 days (and beyond) for praying fororphans, your pastor, your church, and yourcommunity. Ask Him to break your heartfor the orphans. Ask that He would helpyou to see orphans with His eyes and Hisheart. Ask Him to use this 40 days ofprayer to change you and your church.3) Today, ask God that of the 2 billionChristians in the world, 7% would showhope to a single orphan, looking after thechild in their distress. Ask the Lord toconvict the church around the world thatif we did this, there would effectively beno more orphans. Ask the Lord to showeach of His followers that we can eachdo something.2) Today, pray for your Pastor to haveguidance and provision as he seeks tofollow the Lord’s commands to care forthe orphans.1

God sets thelonely in families . . .”8) Today, pray for the Lord to raise upworkers for the harvest from your churchand community. Ask Him to callChristians to go to the “fields of thefatherless” to experience the joy of caringfor orphans as we are commanded inIsaiah 1:16–17 “Give up your wicked ways.Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help theoppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight forthe rights of widows.”.5) Today, pray for the fatherless in yourcommunity. Ask the Lord to protect themand to care for them and to defend themand keep them safe.9) Today, pray that God would break theheart of your city’s pastors with the plightof orphans. Ask that He would convictthem to lead their churches to pray, go,and love in Jesus’ name.6) Today, ask the Lord to help yourchurch family to live out Proverbs 31:8:“Speak up for those who cannot speakfor themselves, for the rights of all whoare destitute.”.10) Today, ask the Father to set thelonely in families. Pray specifically forfamilies in your community who may bein the process of adopting an orphan.Ask for God’s provision for all of theirneeds: physical, emotional, and spiritual.7) Today, thank the Lord in advance forall that He is going to do to bring glory toHis name in your church and community.Thank Him for the care He is going toprovide for orphans through your church.11) Today, pray specifically for anyorphans you may know by name. Prayfor their health and safety. Pray fortheir shelter. Pray that they will bebrought into loving families who willprovide for their education.2

GOD’S HEART for the ORPHAN40 Day Prayer Guide for Orphan Care12) Today, pray that God, the Defenderof the orphan, will rise up and securejustice for the oppressed.17) Today, ask for forgiveness forChristians around the world who forgetthe orphans and forget to heed1 John 3:17: “If anyone has materialpossessions and sees his brother inneed but has no pity on him, how canthe love of God be in him?”.13) Today, ask the Lord to lead thelawmakers in every nation to protect andprovide for orphans.18) Today, ask the Lord to raise uprespite care providers to support andgive relief to the caregivers caring fororphans who are waiting to have familiesadopt them.14) Today, pray that your wholecongregation will believe and beconvicted by Proverbs 22:9: “Agenerous man will himself be blessed,for he shares his food with the poor.”Ask for the Lord’s blessings on thosewho share their food with orphans.19) Today, pray for your Pastor. AskGod to provide him with resources,encouragement, courage, and a strongprayer team to support him as he seeksto live out James 1:27: “Pure and lastingreligion in the sight of God our Fathermeans that we must care for orphansand widows in their troubles, and refuseto let the world corrupt us.”.15) Today, pray for yourself as a churchmember. Ask the Lord to lead you on,that you might walk in obedience. AskGod to show you how to encourage yourchurch family or youth to care for theneeds of orphans.16) Today, pray that because of God’smercy, He will provide caregivers andcounselors for children who have beenabused.3

Ask for theLord’s hand of blessing on their lives.Lift up the health and safety of themand their families. Ask also that theLord would break their hearts for theorphans in your community.21) Today, pray for government leaders inyour country. Ask the Lord to burdentheir hearts for the orphans. Ask thatthey would feel compelled to protect andprovide for orphans.25) Today, pray for God’s provision foryour church’s orphan care ministry. AskHim to provide people and prayers andmoney and food and supplies to give theorphans all the care they need.22) Today, pray for families who havemembers living with HIV and AIDS.Pray for the children orphaned by thisdisease. Ask God to provide treatment,care, and support through the church.26) Today, pray for children who are notyet orphans but may only have oneparent who may be sick or dying. Prayfor the health and safety of their parent.Pray for God’s provision. Pray forprotection for the children in thesehouseholds.23) Today, ask the Lord to strengthen thefaith and resolve of Christians working inorphan ministries.27) Today, ask God to care for childheaded households. Pray that the Lordwill provide for their needs. Pray that anadult would come alongside them andadopt them. Ask the Lord to protect themfrom abuse.4

Ask the Lord to blessthem for their sacrifice and to provideenough food, clothes, education, andshelter for all of their children.32) Today, pray that every member ofyour church would remember andacknowledge and praise the Lord thatbefore the world was made, He lovedus and chose us, and that Hisunchanging plan has always been toadopt us into His own family by bringingus to Himself through Jesus Christ andthat this gave Him great pleasure.(Ephesians 1:3–5).29) Today, pray for mothers or fatherswho might be having trouble caring fortheir children and feel they need to givethem up or abandon them. Ask God tohelp them find support. Ask the Lord tomeet their needs and give them theresources to be able to take care oftheir children.33) Today, ask the Lord to help yourchurch be an example of the Lord’s lovefor orphans as written in Psalm 10:17–18:“The helpless put their trust in You. Youare the defender of orphans Lord, Youknow the hopes of the helpless. SurelyYou will listen to their cries and comfortthem. You will bring justice to theorphans and the oppressed, so peoplecan no longer terrify them.”.30) Today, ask God to protectchildren affected by war and violentconflicts. Pray that the Lord willprotect their vulnerable hearts andkeep them safe. Pray that a church willreach out to them.34) Today, pray for yourself and theother prayer team members. Ask theLord for strength. Ask Him to help younot grow weary in battling for theorphans on your knees.31) Today, pray for families in countries allover the world who have room in theirhomes and hearts for a fatherless child.Ask that the Lord would speak to themeven now, leading them to consideradoption or foster care.5

Caring fororphans and changing attitudes andbeliefs and actions is tough work and theenemy is bound to attack. Ask forprotection for your pastor, his family, theirhealth, and their ministry. Ask for God’shand of blessing on their lives.38) Today, pray for street children.These children live under bushes and indumps and sewage pipes. They may eatmeals out of trash cans. Many peoplewalk by them without seeing them orview them as pests. Ask God to openthe churches’ eyes to help them see theorphans all around them. Ask the Lordto provide food and shelter for thestreet children.36) Today, ask the Lord to releaseand speed any care supplies torefugee camps where many orphanslive and need even the most basicnecessities. Ask Him to cut throughany governmental regulations orcorrupt leaders to miraculously getthe supplies delivered to where theyare needed most.39) Today, pray for the health oforphans around the world. Ask theLord to provide medications andtreatment for the simple things that areunnecessarily killing children like uncleandrinking water, malaria, dysentery, AIDS,and malnutrition.37) Today, pray for families who are in theadoption process. Pray that God willprovide the funds and help them with allthe necessary details.40) Today, thank the Lord for the past40 days of prayer for orphans. Ask Himto bring more prayer warriors into thebattle. Ask Him to help you to continuepraying diligently. Ask Him to continueto give you His love for the orphans.Ask Him to continue to challenge thehearts of your congregation that “Hewho is kind to the poor lends to theLORD, and He will reward him for whathe has done.” Proverbs 19:17.6
