Paris SchoolIFA Paris was established in 1982 to combine French fashion heritage with the modernglobalized world. As the only school in Paris offering all its undergraduate and postgraduatecourses taught in English, IFA Paris caters to a highly internaional student body from allcorners of the world.Recently relocated to 18-24 Quai de la Marne, IFA Paris overlooks the famous canal of “Ourcq”and is at the heart of the developing 19th arrondissement. The new locaion has tripled the sizeof the previous academic faciliies and added extensive new ameniies to benefit students,including bigger classrooms, a student lounge space, and a resource and study center. Shanghai SchoolFounded in Shanghai in 2002 in partnership with the Shanghai University of Engineering Sciences(SUES), IFA Paris is the first Sino-French joint-venture in fashion educaion and is today seen asthe leading school in the fashion and luxury goods sectors in China. With internaional fashion and jewelrybrands, from luxury to mass markets, forming the prosperous retailing scene in the city’snumerous fashion districts, Shanghai is unquesionably China’s Mecca for the fashion andluxury industry. While luxury cars, 5-star hotels and high-end restaurants are regular sights inthe city’s downtown, there is now also a growing interest for yachts and private jets amongChina’s richest.10

Teaching and Learning MethodologyThe teaching philosophy in our postgraduate courses is based on the delivery of a high qualityand interacive experience through pedagogy based on research and supported by empiricalevidence of effeciveness. We believe in grooming students to achieve a higher level ofcogniive learning through developing specific methodologies that will help them negoiatetheir future workplace.We support enquiry based deep learning as one of our key principles in order to allow studentsto engage with the learning acquired rather than be passive learners. This is achieved througha balanced mix of different methods of delivery such as tradiional lectures, readings, seminargroups, demonstraions, discussions for a, role play and debates, field visits, independent study,self-evaluaion and team work based aciviies.Teaching and learning aciviies are also regularly updated to include the use of newtechnologies, one of them being the implementaion of IFA Paris’ own virtual learningenvironment called LMS. It enables detailed course communicaions, syllabus management andthe inclusion of all associated support requirements for students and staff to be in line with adefined e-learning strategy.Keeping in mind the internaional focus of our postgraduate courses and the wide variety ofcultures amongst our students’ cohorts, IFA Paris has put in place feedback mechanisms suchas course commitees allowing paricipants and lecturers to express themselves on the overallquality of the course. ModulesOur Perfume and Cosmeics Management coursecovers a wide range of modules clustered into fivemain module groupings:Business Issues:The capacity to listen and interpret markets’ signals isa key component of today’s managers. It needs to beconinuously culivated. Within this module groupingstudents will discover the idiosyncrasies of thefashion industry from an economic and financial viewpoint.Distribuion and Retail:New technologies are shaping the cosmeics andperfume offering of the 21st century in ways that donot always relate to product innovaion. A large partof the most recent innovaions concern thedistribuion and retail sector, with interesingcross-overs between the Fashion and the Cosmeicsand Perfume industries. This module grouping isaimed at giving students a new perspecive ontradiional distribuion and retail strategies.Cosmeics and Perfume Environment:Is perfume sill a luxury? Are socially responsiblebrands more impacful? How is the impact of thefashion industry in the development of the cosmeicsand perfume industry?. This module grouping willchallenge students and develop their criical thinkingapproach in regards with the industry.16Markeing and Management:This grouping encompasses a series of modules thatwill be sequenially planned based on the structure of amarkeing plan. The overall body of knowledgeacquired by the students will prepare them to:Analyze complex markeing challenges based onpracical case studies; allocate resources strategicallyto achieve pre-determined objecives; crat brandDNAs allowing for the achievement of asustainable compeiive advantageCosmeics and Perfume Lifestyle:While our MBA Program does not aim at creaingtechnicians we believe it is important for our studentsto be totally immersed within the environment ofcosmeics and perfumes. This is why we have devised aseries of groundbreaking seminars and workshops: toallow our students to experience the specificiies of thefuture industry they’ll be working for. From a week inan olfactory lab to test and create perfumes to a forayinto the crating of perfumes “A La Francaise”,everything has been devised to provide agroundbreaking experienial learning.

Capstone ProjectThe Capstone Project is a common aspect of thetaught postgraduate courses at IFA Paris. It is anintegraive experience in which students bringtogether much of the knowledge and skills acquiredand developed during their course. This projectreflects the many ways students at IFA Paris connectwith business informaion, media communicaionsprofessionals, and valuable assets within the fashion,texile and luxury sectors. Students may pursue aresearch-oriented, an interacive ethnographic orbusiness management-oriented Capstone. TheCapstone experience is also student-directed,meaning that students take responsibility foridenifying and defining a problem to work on,developing the approaches and methods needed toaddress the problem, carrying out the invesigaionindependently, and presening findings in both oraland writen forms for examinaion.The project can be done individually, but weencourage a team approach; with tutorial support tohelp students find appropriate and individual focusesand to monitor progress. In some courses, this projectis done across two to three ciies, thus giving it a trulyinternaional dimension and the opportunity to meetand connect with numerous helpful people andresources. Our intenion is that Capstone Projects willprovide an enjoyable crowning educaionalexperience for IFA Paris students and a rewardingopportunity for mentorship for lecturers and externalcollaborators. It can then be used to demonstrate tofuture employers and other interested paries ourstudents’ skills and apitude for similar independentexternal work assignments.The Capstone Project is a culminaing project,wherein students are expected to demonstrate howthey have used informaion as a tool fortransformaion in their personal, academic andprofessional lives. The tradiional form of an extendedessay or thesis is a minimum of 15,000 words forindividual capstones. The final form of the work willbe proposed by the student, negoiated and agreed inassessment of the proposal and PPT. This project,arching over much of the academic year, may be themost ambiious research and wriing effort studentshave yet undertaken. It is assessed as a maincomponent of study, an evidence of progress, imeand team management skills, as well as anachievement of learning outcomes. Consequently, itcarries a high credit tariff of 40 ECTS credits andaccounts for 30% of the final grade.
