Fortunately, at the same time, simulation technology has evolved to a level wherehighly-realistic scenarios can be used to meet keyrequirements including: training; decision making;development of strategy, tactics and procedures;formulation and validation of concepts of operations;mission rehearsal; and after-action review.simulator training environments. Simulator trainingin highly-realistic operational scenarios presents ashorter route to competency and force readiness.Trainers and scenarios can be specifically tailoredto allow warfighters to prepare for every situationfrom important procedural training to challenging,high-stress, combat missions where learned reactionsare critical to survival. Such exercises using validatedtactics and procedures can be rerun many times todevelop, build and maintain core skills in a safe trainingenvironment.Simulation is highly responsive to the demands of theoperational requirement and can be customized toprovide on-demand training ranging from dedicated,single-operator, part-task training, through team andsub-team training and up to large fleet and task forcesynthetic training in a live, virtual and constructive(LVC) environment. As real shipboard equipment and simulator platformtechnologies converge, so do the shipboard andKONGSBERG has been dedicated to quality training for the past four decadesKONGSBERG – NAVAL TRAINING3

KONGSBERG INTERACTIntegrated Training EnvironmentFor successful naval operations it is crucial thatwarfighters perform to their best ability. To achieveoptimal performance in real-world operations, crewsmust develop both excellent situational awarenessand learn to function as an integrated team. Realisticsimulated training scenarios are the most costeffective and proven way forward to develop theseskills so they become second nature in a highly stressfuloperational situation.KONGSBERG INTERACT (Integrated Naval TrainingEnvironment for Resource management AndCrew Teamwork) provides a federated simulationenvironment, into which any of the PROTEUS tacticaland K-Sim Navigation bridge training software solutions can be linked. Legacy stand-alone trainers mayalso be integrated into the KONGSBERG INTERACTfederated system of systems to provide added costeffectiveness. This unique federation of hardwareand software creates a joined up solution for optimaltraining where individual, team, crew and forcelevel skills can be developed, honed to perfection andmaintained.KONGSBERG INTERACT provides a flexible environment that allows users to create any training scenariothey need. For example, a swarm attack is a realisticoperational threat that is highly stressful and requiresan immediate coordinated and coherent response, without which it would be difficult for the ship tosurvive.KONGSBERG INTERACT is easily tailored to createan environment where effective counter-swarmtactics can be developed and validated. At the same4KONGSBERG – NAVAL TRAININGtime, individual operators can learn core skills, suchas using correct communications procedures whilstoperating under combat stress. Such training is validfor the whole crew, from the young lookout correctlyidentifying and reporting threats and their attackposture, to the Commanding Officer’s total situationalawareness and chosen course of action under theapplicable Rules of Engagement. One KONGSBERGINTERACT system can be scaled up to representseveral ships and thus train individual CommandingOfficers to work together as a fleet.KONGSBERG INTERACT’s flexibility can be usedin a wealth of applications including federatingappropriate trainers for crews to practice AntiSubmarine Warfare (ASW), area access / area denialand naval or maritime security forces protection ofExclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and maritime infrastructure operations. KONGSBERG INTERACT is anideal tool for developing and validating doctrine, fromhigh level strategy down to individual tactics, conceptof operations, mission rehearsal and after actionreview.KONGSBERG INTERACT’s exercises can be competitive, where appropriate, to promote discussions andinnovation, or scripted to meet specific team andprocedural training needs. Automatic recording andplayback of simulation exercises enables assessmentof individual, team, crew and force-level performanceand thereby increase overall effectiveness.

FEATURES Proven in operational training KONGSBERG INTERACT provides a low-risk,cost-effective training solution. Can be tailored to meet each user’sspecific training requirements. Runs on COTS PCs HLA evolved compliant (IEEE1516.2010) Provides a federated environment, intowhich any other PROTEUS tactical andK-Sim bridge training system can beconnected. The KONGSBERG INTERACT federation canalso incorporate third party legacytrainers using either an HLA or DISinterface. Long-term follow-on support agreementavailable.KONGSBERG – NAVAL TRAINING5

C U S T O M I S EDSOLUTIONSCUSTOMISED SOLUTIONS– Meeting Exact Training RequirementsKONGSBERG’s range of simulator systems is based on in-depth understandingof the learning process. All simulators provide highly realistic training scenariosand can be customised to fulfil specific training requirements.Customised Bridge SimulatorROYAL NORWEGIAN NAVY DELIVERYKONGSBERG has a long relationship with the RoyalNorwegian Naval Academy and the Royal NorwegianNavy establishment. One of the latest deliveries isa specially designed 1:1 simulator replica of the tacticalbridge system on board the Skjold class Corvette. As one of the fastest warships in the world, with acapability of speeds above 60 knots, they are subjectto very strict requirements for safe navigation.Built on K-Sim technology, the simulator features advanced software that realistically replicates the speed and handling of the Skjold. The simulatorprovides realistic training scenarios that would havebeen impossible to carry out because of the highspeed and safety procedures of the vessels. Thisallows the Academy to expose the crew to greaterchallenges in a safe and cost-efficient environment.Customised Engine Room SimulatorROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY/BAE - DELIVERYA recent example of an extensive customised engineroom simulator is the LHD Engineering SystemTrainer (LEST), delivered to BAE Systems to provideinte- grated training for the Royal Australian Navy. The simulator is based on the Canberra ClassLanding Helicopter Dock (LHD) vessels. The Engineconfiguration on the simulated ship is CODAG E,which is a combination of two engines types (2 xMAN medium speed & 1 x GE 2500 gas turbine)connected to generators. The propulsion is drivenelectrically with two Pods in a diesel- electricconfiguration. The system supports the full spectrumof engine room main- and subsystems and is basedon mathematical physical laws resulting in a factualunderstanding of engine room processes as experienced in real life operations.
