The Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) is pleased to present thisevent on behalf of the MassHealth Primary Care Clinician (PCC) Plan and in collaboration withthe University of Massachusetts Medical School.In our work with providers across Massachusetts, we have been struck by the incredible efforts underway tointegrate medical and behavioral health care. We are also mindful of the many opportunities – and challenges– facing our community as we undertake this important work. Today’s program has been designed with thisin mind. It brings together a wide range of providers and subject matter experts to speak to both clinical andoperational dimensions of integration. We invite you to engage with them and each other in dynamic discussionof what is working, and what is needed, to bring us closer to realizing a shared vision of integrated, whole-personhealth care.We are grateful to the many staff, providers, and subject matter experts who have contributed to preparing andpresenting this event, and extend our deepest thanks to Secretary Sudders for providing our keynote address.We hope you will take some time to visit the resource tables in the lobby for useful information to take backto your organizations and practices. Professionally trained as a social worker, Sudders has dedicated her lifeto public service and to some of our most vulnerable citizens. She has been a public official,provider executive, advocate, and college professor.With a long record of public service, Sudders was the Massachusetts Commissioner ofMental Health from 1996 to 2003, helping to create the state’s first children’s mental healthcommission and championing the rights and wellbeing of children, adults and elders withmental illness and their loved ones. For almost ten years, she headed the MassachusettsSociety for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, promoting the rights and well-being ofsome 24,000 children and families.In 2012, Sudders was appointed to the state’s Health Policy Commission (HPC) for herbehavioral health expertise; she remains on this important commission in her capacity asSecretary. The HPC is charged with improving health care quality while curbing costs. Shealso spent time as an associate professor and Chair of Health and Mental Health at the BostonCollege School of Social Work. Sudders has served on many charitable boards throughout hercareer, including the Pine Street Inn, Massachusetts Association for Mental Health, and theNational Alliance on Mental Illness.Secretary Sudders’ talent and dedication has been recognized multiple times. She received anHonorary Doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and was namedSocial Worker of the Year from the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of SocialWorkers. She was also nationally recognized with the Knee-Whitman Outstanding Achievementfor Health and Mental Health Policy from the National Association of Social Workers Foundation.The Planning Committee: Ken Bates, Carlos Cappas, Erin Donohue, Andrea Gewirtz, Jonna Hopwood, Kim Kamins,Tamara Lange, Marcy Ravech, Amy Rosenstein, Rose TedescoThe Primary Care Clinician Planserves nearly 400,000 MassHealthbeneficiaries with its network ofover 3,000 primary care cliniciansat 1,750 sites statewide. PCCPlan members receive a full rangeof mental health and substanceuse disorder services through theMassachusetts Behavioral HealthPartnership (MBHP).Integrating Care: From Evidence to Operations I Second Annual Statewide Forum on Integration l 2MBHP provides mental health andsubstance use disorder services fornearly 400,000 PCC Plan beneficiariesand state-agency involved clientsthroughout the Commonwealth.The MBHP network includes over1,200 clinics, inpatient programs,and individual practitioners. MBHPalso provides management supportservices to the primary care networkof the MassHealth PCC Plan. MBHPis a wholly owned subsidiary ofBeacon Health Options.The University of Massachusetts Medical Schoolis an academic health sciences center of 6,800professionals, positioned at the forefront of healthcare delivery and policy development. It is hometo Nobel Prize-winning research aimed at advancesin areas of HIV, cancer, diabetes, and infectiousdisease. It is ranked in the top 10 percentof academic medical schools in primary care(2015 U.S. News & World Report). These programs aim to hasteninteroperability – among the communityat large as well as more specifically to thebehavioral health and long-term post-acutecare sectors – through awareness campaigns,incentive grants, education, and toolkitdevelopment. They will also serve as thecenterpiece of MeHI’s health IT adoptionand use efforts for the next three years.Additionally, Sean is leading development ofthe Statewide eHealth Plan for Massachusetts,which will be informed by broad stakeholderfeedback and ready for release in summer2015. Prior to joining MeHI, Sean workedat Massachusetts General Hospital wherehe directed key technology and innovationleadership activities.Before MassGeneral, Sean was a MedicalService Corps officer in the United StatesArmy specializing in health informationsystems.
