Body, Mind, SpiritOctober 2019A Yogi’s Guide toChakra MeditationPaul Grilley Illustrator Stephanie HiiThere are many books on chakras, but their focus is usually an attempt to integrate thechakras with modern psychological theories. “A Yogi’s Guide to Chakra Meditation”presents chakra meditation as a specific example of the ancient yogic tradition. The most respected text in the yogic tradition was written by the sage Patanjali and isentitled “The Yoga Sutras.” Scholars debate its antiquity, but it was written approximately2000 years ago. Because an overview of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is standard fare in yogateacher training programs, I have presented chakra meditation as a specific example ofPatanjali’s more general description of yoga. I hope that a description of chakra meditationthrough Patanjali’s lens will make it easier for yoginis coming to this material for thefirst time. All yoga teacher training programs include an overview of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, butthese sutras are notoriously difficult to understand, and have from ancient times requireda commentary to clarify them. For example: Patanjali’s descriptions of pranayama are sogeneral as to be useless without commentary. AYGtCM covers this essential topic in clearand complete detail.Patanajali is most famous for his model of spiritual progress called “The Eight Limbs ofYoga.” The rest of the Yoga Sutras might remain obscure, but any yogini who has graduateda training program has had to memorize the eight limbs of yoga. AYGtCM brings theeight limbs of yoga to life by illustrating their manifestation in chakra meditation. Many ofPatanjali’s sutras are referenced throughout the text. In this way, the reader gains insightinto Patanjali’s entire system of thought, including theories of creation, karma, reincarnation, psychology, and the physical, astral, and causal bodies.Paul Grilley 20.00 104 pgs 4.5 x 8ISBN-13: 9781733583909 HCBODY, MIND & SPIRIT / Healing / Energy6 B/W IllustrationsFurther Resources, Subject IndexThe first of the book’s four sections describes chakras: their location and function. It elaborates the ideas of Shiva, Shakti, and prana. The second section translates these terms into Patanjali’s yogic terms and expands them. The third section outlines in detail Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga as they occur inchakra meditation. The fourth and final section describes meditation itself, outlining specific routines of practice, and describing what a yogini will experience.About the AuthorMarketingPaul Grilley. SportsNovember 2019I Love IU : I Hate PurdueJoe DrozdaHere’s the book die hard IU fans have been waiting for, the book that will at the same timemake Purdue fans want to slink away and go sit in the corner. The Indiana–Purdue sportsrivalry began in 1891 when the two schools first met on the gridiron, and is regarded as oneof the most intense collegiate rivalries in the country. Newsweek ranked it among the top 12and the Huffington Post named it as the fifth best overall. In 1925 the football teams playedfor the Old Oaken Bucket for the first time, and when the Big Ten expanded to 14 teams in2014 and realigned into geographically based divisions, Indiana and Purdue were placedin opposite divisions (the only protected cross-division rivalry) to insure that the Old OakenBucket would be contested every year. Students, Alumni and fans of IU generally root for theHoosiers and whoever is playing against Purdue. On the book’s I Love IU side chapters include the great victories over Purdue, and anotheron the outstanding players, many All-Americans, that have figured prominently in thesevictories. There is a chapter on the great coaches featuring the likes of Bob Knight, BillMallory, Doc Councilman, Jerry Yeagley and others. There are also chapters about the manywonderful traditions associated with the sports culture at IU, and one on the beauty of thecampus. In the I Hate Purdue side you’ll find the heartbreaking losses to Purdue in football andbasketball, painful reminders that the great victories have their counterparts. There are alsochapters giving the Boilermakers their due in the number of great coaches and athletes theschool has produced. There are also chapters about Purdue traditions that grate on IU fanslike the chant “IU Sucks” by the students before every game against all opponents. There isalso a chapter about things not to love about the unimaginative Purdue campus. This book is a must have for members of the Hoosier Nation.Blue River PressLove : Hate Sports Series 14.99 288 pgs 5.5 x 8.5ISBN-13: 9781681571942 TPSPORTS & RECREATION / Basketball12 B&W PhotosGlossary, IndexBack CoverAbout the AuthorMarketingJoe Drozda grew up in Northwest Indiana, graduating from Indiana University in 1970 afterserving in the United States Army, including a combat tour in Viet Nam.
