California Title 24 (T24)Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations sets forthCalifornia’s Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential andNonresidential Buildings. It is California’s Energy Code andpart of the California Building Standards Code, coveringnew construction of, and additions and alterations to,residential and nonresidential buildings. Since Title 24 is abuilding design code, in general, lighting products do nothave a product-level compliance path. Certification to and/or compliance with Title 24 requirements is not required tosell product in California but compliance with the designcode is required for new construction and major renovationprojects. California Title 20 (T20)California Code of Regulations, Title 20, Sections1601–1608 are efficiency appliance standards, whichrestrict the sale of non-compliant product within thestate of California, including e-commerce distributionchannels. Regulated products must be certified andmust appear in the California Energy Commission’s(CEC) appliance efficiency database prior to salein California.California T20 requirements for lighting appliancestypically include energy performance but vary basedon the appliance type.
