The channel of the South Sulphur River haddramatically eroded and the 84-inch raw water pipeline was exposed, undercut and at risk.Repair of the crossing was deemed an emergency. While smaller projects like this might be considered maintenance, this project was so largethat the District had to bring in contractors to complete the work. Construction work, whichincluded emergency pipe-stabilization measures, as well as installation of permanentriverbank erosion protection, was completed March 2017. Additionally, 700 linear feet ofthe pipeline was replaced in Spring 2017. Total cost of both projects was 5.4 million.Maintenance HighlightsOne of the key drivers that affects rates isthe repair and rehabilitation of aginginfrastructure. Our maintenance teamworks diligently every day to make repairsand rehabilitate aging or broken pipes andpumps all across our 10-county servicearea. Crews made the repair quicklywithout impacting water service. In May 2017, the City of Sunnyvale notifiedus of a water leak in a pipeline runningthrough Sunnyvale from Mesquite toForney. This 24" concrete pipeline wasinstalled in 1985, so it was a goodopportunity to replace a section of aginginfrastructure to prevent future leaks. Thepipeline was isolated by using other Districtpipelines to ensure uninterrupted service forresidents.Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir Project UpdateContractor Workshop draws crowd inFannin CountyThere was a great turnout for the first contractorworkshop for the Lower Bois d'Arc CreekReservoir Project.
