Avalon 2018 Board Member ProfilesEmily Rossiter, ChairmanAppointed January 2014Emily is the founder and president of a specialized consulting firm, working with companies tobring new medical products through clinical trials and to market. Her ability to organizeinformation and people has been recognized by her peers. Emily has been a longtime volunteerwith Avalon, helping in our Outreach Office and is also a member of her Church Council.Emily joined Avalon’s Board because after “years of supporting the Outreach activities ofAvalon, I am interested in exploring additional ways to advance the mission and activities of theorganization.”Robert Beall, Vice ChairmanAppointed January 2017Rob has enjoyed a 32-year career in banking, centered in commercial banking and personnelmanagement in Georgia. He has served on numerous boards including Habitat for Humanity inDeKalb County, Georgia; the McDonough Arts Council and Downtown Development Authority.Rob joined Eastern Virginia Bank in Williamsburg in October 2016 as Senior Vice President/Williamsburg Market Executive.Lynn Pryor, SecretaryAppointed January 2014Lynn has a diverse professional background, having worked as a high school math teacher for 11years and working in government and corporate finance at various consulting firms for over 19years. She is active in this community, having served on multiple Boards and volunteering forvarious agencies, including the Williamsburg Regional Library.Lynn joined Avalon’s Board because “I greatly admire the work that Avalon does to improvepeoples’ lives” and feels that her skill set would make a significant and helpful contribution toour mission.Katina Evans-Gallien, TreasurerAppointed July 2016Katina is a Supervisor of Finance and Business Services at Dominion Virginia Power. global organizations. Katina received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from ClemsonUniversity and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the College of William &Mary. She currently serves in the children’s ministry and supports various missionary events atNew Zion Baptist Church.Glenda Turner, Immediate Past ChairAppointed April 2013Glenda Turner graduated Magna Cum Laude from North Carolina Agricultural and TechnicalState University where she received a B.A. in Communications and a B.S. in IndustrialTechnology. She then went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from AverettUniversity in Danville, VA.While in North Carolina, Glenda worked as an Account Executive for The News & Observer inRaleigh. In 1998, she and her husband, William moved to Williamsburg and she began workingat Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA and is an Advertising, Media, andBrand Manager.Glenda has worked with charitable organizations for more than 15 years and has served as avolunteer and Board Member for organizations like the Big Brothers Big Sisters MentoringProgram, Junior Achievement, Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America and is a memberof the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.Glenda served on the web and analytics team for the Williamsburg Area Destination Committeeto promote tourism in the Williamsburg area. In addition, she belongs to the AmericanMarketing Association, the Association of National Advertisers, and the American AdvertisingFederation.Glenda and William have two children, Jordan who is 14 years old, and Jada who is 8 years old.Lou CaleAppointed May 2015Lou was born in Hampton Roads and has lived in Williamsburg for nearly 20 years. She is themother of one grown son. Currently she is a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Traditions.She has served on the board of directors for Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburgand served as a patient volunteer. Nick currently serves as Vice President for Employee Benefits for TFA Benefits, a TowneFamily Company. A graduate of Christopher Newport University, Nick earned a bachelor’sdegree in business and devotes considerable time to his education of healthcare reform andregulatory compliance. In 2005 Nick joined Weber, Pile and Associates as a client servicesspecialist and after obtaining state licensing and completing extensive training in groupinsurance, Nick was promoted to Broker, specializing in Employee Benefits. He joined TFABenefits in 2007, as part of the acquisition by TowneBank of Weber, Pile & Associates. In 2008,Nick moved from Newport News to Williamsburg and has focuses his efforts on the Middle andNorthern Peninsula markets.Leslye GivarzAppointed January 2016Leslye retired in 2013 from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in Washington,D.C. and moved to Williamsburg with her fiancé and family. Previously she served with theAmerican Institute of CPAs in New York and with Price Waterhouse in Seattle. Her career hascentered on the combination of CPA background and editor. She earned a BA in accounting fromthe University of Washington.Joe HarrowAppointed January 2018Joe has over 30 years of experience in the banking and insurance industries. He began his careeras a private bank lending officer at SunTrust Bank in Williamsburg, VA, where he has livedsince 1987. In 1994, he began his insurance career when he joined the “family business” andbecame the President of the Middle Peninsula Insurance Agency. Since then, the agency hasgrown from a small office in the country with three employees servicing the local community toa company with 3 locations and 23 employees servicing the entire state and beyond.Joe has also been very active in the Williamsburg community and the insurance industry forseveral years. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of EVB Bank and the Board of theIndependent Insurance Agents of Virginia. Joe is an active speaker in the insurance industryfocusing on how to grow your business the right way.He is a past chairman of the Williamsburg Land Conservancy and Hospice Support Care ofWilliamsburg, and has served on the James City County Educational Foundation. He is the pastchairman of various agency council boards of several insurance companies, including SelectiveInsurance Company, Northern Neck Insurance Company and Donegal Insurance Company.In addition, Joe is a 1985 graduate of Randolph Macon College. Joe’s hobbies includegardening, golfing, reading and many other outdoor activities. Joe and his wife Leanne enjoytraveling to spend time with their 5 children.P.O. Erin Massie HoggeAppointed January 2015Erin is an area native, raised in the Williamsburg/Toano area. She spent her childhood ridinghorses and after graduating from Walsingham Academy, she attended Randolph-MaconWoman’s College. She graduated in 2003 with a degree in sociology and shortly thereafter shemarried Brad Hogge. They have two children, Madelyn and Conor and she works full time at thefamily business, J.S.G. Corporation. Erin has always been active in the community, volunteeringher time on different boards and committees.Naomh M. Hudson, Esq.Appointed July 2016Naomh is a litigation attorney with experience in medical malpractice defense who has beenrepeatedly selected as a "Virginia Rising Star" — a distinction presented to fewer than 2.5% ofattorneys in Virginia. She defends physicians, nurses, hospitals, nursing care facilities, andassisted living facilities against a broad range of negligence, wrongful death and businesslitigation claims. Naomh also has defended employers in employment litigation matters,including discrimination and retaliation, and workers' compensation claims. She handles generalcivil litigation, automobile warranty and lemon law defense; and business and estate litigation.She has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters.Susan KeilitzAppointed January 2018Susan, J.D. and Principal Court Research Consultant, joined the National Center for State Courtsin 1985. Over the past 25 years, Susan has focused on working with court leaders to improvedomestic violence policy and practice in the civil and criminal justice systems. One of he recentefforts is developing online training modules for interpreters working in domestic violence andsexual assault cases. Susan also has provided in-country technical assistance on gender-basedviolence issues for the U. S. State Department in Barbados and Serbia. Over the past three years,she has assisted in developing resources for the court leaders on pretrial justice issues andcollaborated with partner organizations promoting pretrial justice reform. Susan currently directsthree projects funded by the Office on Violence Against Women (language access, technicalassistance for OVW Justice for Families Program grantees, and technology for protectionorders). She is a member of the Virginia State Bar and served on the Board of Directors ofAvalon Center from 2003-2007.Jacquelyn LieblerAppointed January 2018Jacquelyn brings a background in marketing and sales to Avalon. She is the director of marketingand sales for Revolution Golf and Grille, a restaurant and indoor golf center, at High Street inP.O. Box 6805, Williamsburg, VA 231884www.avaloncenter.org

He completed hisundergraduate studies at Bluffton University in western Ohio, earning a BA in biology/premedicine, and completed his doctorate in optometry at The Ohio State University College ofOptometry in Columbus. While there, he led efforts to work with The Ohio State University andUniversity of Cincinnati athletic departments to assess the visual needs of athletes. For hisefforts, Rick was awarded the Lyle AJ Gassmann Memorial Award, given to the graduate bestexemplifying Dr. Gassmann's humanitarian characteristics, leadership qualities, and service toothers. Rick and his wife, Ramina, live in Williamsburg and have three children.TJ PtachickAppointed January 2017TJ is a partner with King Consulting and Investment Group, a division of Davenport andCompany located in New Town, where he counsels individuals, businesses and nonprofits ontheir finances. He volunteers for the FREE Foundation, a nonprofit that collects, sanitizes anddistributes medical equipment to those in need. TJ earned a BS in economics, with a minor inbusiness from William & Mary.Mike RockAppointed January 2017Mike has worked with Nationwide Insurance for 33 years. He is a graduate of the University ofCincinnati with a BS and Master’s degree in education. He taught school for four years prior tojoining Nationwide, where he began as an agent in Cincinnati, and held several salesmanagement positions around the country, before taking over the Williamsburg agency in 1994.Mike is very involved in the community through the Chamber & Tourism Alliance, where heserves on the membership committee and is a member of the Lead Historic Triangle Class of2013; and the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club, of which he is past president. He also has served onthe boards of Meals on Wheels, the Williamsburg Kiwanis Foundation Board, and the LeadHistoric Triangle Board.Erna RodgersAppointed November 2012P.O. A native of Sleepy Hollow, New York, Erna has lived in Williamsburg since 1998 — the longestshe has lived anywhere. She has moved 16 times and in addition to New York has lived in Texas,Connecticut and Libya, volunteering everywhere she has lived.Erna taught 4-5-6 grades and plays tennis and golf. She has three children: Derick, who ismarried to Terri, has 3 children, ages 12, 17, 19, and lives in San Antonio; Jared, married toMimi, has 2 children, 13 and 15, and lives in Abu Dhabi, UAE; and Megan, married to Sal, hastwo children, 3 and 7. AMENDED AND RESTATED BYLAWS OF AVALON: A CENTER FOR WOMENANDCHILDRENA Nonprofit CorporationBE IT RESOLVED that in accordance with Va. Code § 13.1-892, the Board ofDirectors of Avalon: A Center for Women and Children hereby amends and restates thecorporation’s Bylaws to read as follows:ARTICLE I. Name and PurposeSection 1.1. The name of the corporation is Avalon: A Center for Women and Children("Avalon"), doing business as Avalon Center (“Avalon” or “corporation”).Section 1.2. As more fully set forth in its Amended and Restated Articles ofIncorporation (“Articles”) under the Virginia Non-stock Corporation Act, Avalon isorganized to operate exclusively for charitable and education purposes within themeaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended and/or restated(or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code). Its mission is to enddomestic and sexual violence by breaking the cycle of abuse through education,prevention, shelter and support services in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Virginia andsurrounding area.ARTICLE II. Board of DirectorsSection 2.1. The purpose, priorities, and leadership of Avalon shall be under the controland direction of a Board of Directors (“Board”).Section 2.2. Board Role. The Board is responsible for overall policy and direction ofAvalon and for employing and evaluating the performance of an Executive Director towhom is delegated the responsibility of day-to-day operations.
