ONE HUNDRED EVANGELISM IDEASOne of the most helpful exercises when training missionaries is to spend some time listingevangelism ideas that offer the greatest potential for impacting people with the Gospel. This is achallenging exercise for many.Here are several ideas that churches have been encouraged to attempt. Maybe this will spark somenew outreach methods for you and your church.Read through these real life examples before you develop your own list. They were adapted from thework of several IMB and NAMB missionary strategists as well as Missouri Baptist church leaders. Blacktext is more for receiving churches. The highlighted text is more for partnering church projects. The redtext is specifically for evangelizing among immigrant people groups. The green text is for colleges.is particularly effective with teens and young adults.1.Mobilize existing and new prayer supporters. Prayer isevangelism! Seek 1,000 prayer supporters.2.Attend festivals sponsored by immigrant groups,develop relationships there, and share the gospelideally in their heart language.3.Evangelize students through Baptist CampusMinistries. Immigrants may be most accessible.4.Mobilize Christian students on campus and informthem of spiritual needs and ways to witness.5.Provide evangelistic materials customized forwitnessing to college students.6.Expedite Scripture translation in the heart language ofan unengaged people group, if none exists or it isoutdated or unavailable.15. Contact the imam in a local mosque and offer to givelessons on the “before Scriptures” covering Genesis toDeuteronomy (Pentateuch) and Matthew to John (Injil)for women in Muslim people groups.7.Conduct massive Scripture distribution blitzes inneighborhoods, multi-housing projects, andcampuses.16. Meet with other pastors and parachurch organizationsto find out what evangelism efforts they have alreadytried and what worked best. Partner as possible.8.Conduct massive distribution of Christian movies suchas JESUS, The Hope, God is Not Dead, Heaven, etc.9.Visit Christian radio stations within a 50 mile radius ofthe community being reached, informing them ofgatherings and outreach events. Keep them updated.17. Ask Christian anthropologists to share official studiesof the immigrant people group—ethnographies,worldview documents, people portraits, etc. Use theinformation for prayer guides, apologetics training,contextualized Gospel presentations, etc.10. Conduct a survey simply asking if those in that homewould be willing to conduct a Bible study and/or attendone if conducted in their community.11. Conduct servant evangelism projects inviting the lostto help out when painting, repairing, etc. Seek towitness to them during the project or shortly after. This12. Develop relationships among responsive subgroupsamong the people being evangelized: a cluster ofhomes, dorms, and interest groups like bikers, ESLlearners, single mothers, cowboys, gangs, gays,prostitutes, etc.13. Make disciple-makers, training new believers to sharetheir faith effectively and quickly. Use their baptism asa family and friends gathering to share the gospel.14. Involve other Christians who have some cultural orlanguage affinity with an immigrant people group in along-term ministry.18. Invite a vocational evangelist to preach a series ofrevivals twice yearly. Have members provide namesof lost people that the evangelist and pastor visitduring the day before evening services.19. Invite Christian musicians and cultural dancers from aspecific immigrant group to conduct a demonstrationor festival in which they seek to lead their own peopleto faith in Christ. Follow-up.22. Volunteer to serve as police chaplain and firedepartment chaplain seeking to serve them and alsofollow-up on contacts made among people in need inthe community.23. Evangelize families of those who are incarcerated andhelp them transition when their loved ones arereleased.24. Sponsor an international student that is from theadopted immigrant people group.25. Offer food (such as breakfast burritos) at the doors ofthe poorest in the community. Ask for permission topray a blessing on the house. If receptive, requestpermission to begin a Bible study in their home. Shareyour testimony and the gospel story (Romans 6:23)before leaving.26. Contact the radio and TV station managers in yourcommunity and ask for their employee prayerconcerns. Pray on the spot. Follow-up.27. Plan evangelism at athletic competitions in yourcommunity—soccer games, 10k runs, bike races, etc.28. Contact theater managers and drama troupe leadersand ask for prayer requests. Pray on the spot for themand follow-up.29. Coordinate visits of former missionaries to theimmigrant people group to assist in strategicadvances.30. Give away 9-volt batteries for smoke detectors. Knockon the door of every home where church memberslive (neighborhood, dorm, apartment). Ask the peoplewhat miracle that they would want God to do. Pray onthe spot. Offer to return to lead Bible study called“Seven Stories of Hope” (available free from MBC).31. Create an evangelistic Facebook page and Twitterfeed. Post testimonies of those who follow Jesus.Invite people to “like” the page and Personal Message(PM) for more information for spiritual need.32. Write on every tract or Bible distributed “For SpiritualHelp call 1-888-JESUS-20.” This is the number of theEvangelism Response Center (ERC), at NAMB.33. Pay for the people behind you at a drive-through.Include a Gospel Tract and simple note on how toreach you for spiritual help. Give one to the workerand another for them to pass along to the driver.34. Conduct a door-to-door survey asking language andethnic identities. Follow-up with language-specificBibles and evangelistic materials. Network theaddress with evangelicals working with thoseimmigrants. Post info on www.peoplegroups.info.35. Recruit and train Christian music groups to conduct amusical festival at a special event. Raise money forbackpacks to help poor children be ready for school.36. Ask an elementary school principal for the name andcontact information of a newly immigrated child. Havefamilies in the church adopt the child and their family.37. Conduct an evangelistic block party. Use a block partytrailer to provide bounce houses, popcorn, facepainting, etc., to conduct a fun carnival in acommunity. Ask a Christian illusionist or storyteller toinclude the gospel into his presentation.38. Send evangelism teams to participate in Crossover,conducted the week prior to the SBC Annual Meeting.Use that training and experience in your owncommunity to share the gospel during one week.39. Conduct a Community Day in which healthcareprofessionals (blood pressure/eye exams), familybudget counselors, dieticians, and Christianentertainers serve the community for a day. Rovingwitnesses share the Gospel and minister. Follow-up.40. Sponsor a sports clinic for soccer or whateverinterests children and teens of an immigrant group.Present the Gospel and follow-up.41. 42. Connect with Baptist Campus Ministries (BSU) torecruit summer missionaries to evangelize in thecommunity and among the people being reached withthe Gospel. Make sure they know how to witness andfollow-up decisions to make disciple-makers.52. Keep track of every argument made by those youencounter with the gospel. Sponsor an apologeticstraining event for all partnering churches during oneday -part when they are in the area. (We recommendthe MBC’s Rob Phillips – rphillips@mobaptist.org.)43. Survey Christians in key cities of a nearby state – oreven foreign country – to locate family members ofChristians living among the immigrant people group.53. Keep track of each new believers’ testimony, lookingfor trigger points that moved them closer to Christ.How were seeds planted, nurtured, and harvested?Amplify those efforts.44. Conduct a free car clinic in a housing project,especially friendly to single mothers. Change oil andprovide maintenance tips. Solicit free giveaways touse. Present the Gospel and follow-up.45. Precision Harvesting: Contact the U.S. Post Officeand send out postcards to a specific carrier route, notjust zip code. The cards offer something free, such asa Bible and Bible study. Map the most responsivestreets and blocks. Start there conducting evangelisticBible studies such as the Seven Stories of Hope orCatching Fire.46. Conduct an ESL class for immigrants. Identify thelargest groups that respond and begin a work amongthem using English, but also in their heart language.47. Conduct an evangelistic Bible study series for seniorcitizens at a retirement center. Seek to evangelizethose in their family to leave a godly legacy.48. Conduct or participate in a swap meet in which peoplebarter rather than pay for goods. Seek to strike upspiritual conversations that lead to individualsexpressing interest in the Gospel. Seek to evangelizeentire families of those who are seekers.49. Conduct evangelism training for your church membersand that of the partnering churches. Conduct a series of after work evening self-helpclasses on a variety of topics—car maintenance,parenting, budgeting, and other issues. Presentersgive their testimony and explain the Gospel duringeach presentation.51. Bring in a partnering church’s choir and join yourchurch’s choir in conducting a Gospel-oriented holidaycelebration (July 4, Easter, Christmas, etc.).54. Conduct a special evangelistic event by bringing in aspecial talent such as horse whisperer, motorcycleexposition group, feats of strength, fishing pro, etc., toattract crowds. Train decision counselors and followup any response cards in a timely manner.55. Video record how-to building or cookingdemonstrations and post them on YouTube,GodTube, or Vimeo. Advertise that these samedemonstrations will be conducted at your church.Include an evangelistic presentation and follow-upwith those who attend.56. Use EvangeCubes or Creation to the Cross C2Ccards to present the Gospel to smallish groups of twoor three people. Call for decisions to follow Christ.Follow-up by going to those they know that need theGood News. Keep going until you get a group of 10 ormore together and start an evangelistic Bible study.57. Prepare specific materials to help people defend theirfaith when witnessing among an immigrant group. Usethe material on http://4truth.net.58. Locate local believers from a specific people groupand train them how to share their testimony and theGospel. Help them train disciple-makers. Recruit churches who cannot be in a long-termpartnership to participate in both ongoing prayer andone-touch evangelistic events.60. Orient new immigrants to services in thecommunity, including your church. Share the Gospeland follow-up with new believers.69. Approach city managers (mayor) asking for their topthree “impossible needs.” Put together teams toaddress each need, seeking to share the Gospel withthose encountered. Invite the lost to help with projects.70. Encourage Christian businessmen to invest in peoplegroup-related businesses.62. Network with Christian craft marketers, such as theWMU’s Worldcrafts (www.worldcraftsvillage.com),who purchase specific handicraft items produced bypeople groups such as brocade and hand-wovencloth.71. Conduct a “service of worship” on Sunday morningrather than a worship service and send out the churchwith partnering churches to evangelize. Time it so thatpartnering churches can participate. Gather thatevening for a praise service sharing testimonies ofwhat God did in your day of service.63. After Dark Posse: Send out waves of cruiser-typebicycles throughout the community at night, engagingthe lost, seeking to counsel those in need, andconnecting with people just hanging out. Messengertype bags can hold Bibles and invitations to events.72. Conduct a new believers class for everyone in yourchurch that has come to faith in Christ in the past sixmonths. Teach them how to share the Gospel storyand go with them to witness to those in their circle ofinfluence – family, friends, and co-workers.64. Community gardens: Offer 10’ X 6’ garden plots onyour church property to families in the community sothat relationships form, trust builds, and familiesbecome exposed to believers who share their faithand follow-up. Share extra veggies with homelessshelters and ethnic restaurants.73. Distribute marked New Testaments to every person ina worship service. During the service, take eachperson through the marked passages and encouragethem to share the Gospel story and their conversiontestimony during the following week. Close thesession inviting everyone that knows a lost person tosymbolically lay their souls on the altar in prayer.65. Encourage believers to move to where immigrantgroups live, including retirees. Encourageprofessionals to purchase buildings, rehab them anduse their facilities as church plants on weekends.66. Conduct an annual day of prayer and fastinghighlighting the people or community being reached inthe partnership. Produce a prayer guide and distributeit among the partnering churches.67. Research other cities where your immigrant peoplegroup is located in the U.S. usingwww.peoplegroups.info. Contact that city’s Baptistassociation or churches to determine progress, bestpractices, and if believers will assist in yourcommunity.68. Locate opportunities, such as the new businesses andhotels being constructed in the area, to find newemployment opportunities for new believers. Somecoming out of prostitutions, drug dealing, etc., willneed new ways to earn an honest wage.74. Survey an unreached neighborhood and conduct aBackyard Bible Club in any home that will welcomeyou. Share the Gospel by week’s end, investing extratime particularly in the homeowners. (Option: Conductthe BBC in the home of a church member.)75. Conduct a “Mothers Like You” appreciation banquetjust prior to Mother’s Day. Have members ofpartnering churches provide music, serve food, andpreach a Gospel sermon. Disperse church membersat tables and provide a meal for them to attend withtheir immediate family.76. Schedule mission trips to the home countries ofimmigrants you are reaching. Offer to take letters andgifts to their family members overseas. Evangelizeand follow-up.77. Research sex trafficking in your community among thepeople you are reaching. 78. Evaluate existing social services, human rights, andjustice programs for effectiveness combating abuse,especially among women and children.79. Provide a weekend meal program for school childrenwho lack good nutrition when away from school.Consider expanding it summer-long.80. Provide for the immigrant people group public healthinformation and specializing in HIV/AIDS awareness,care, and prevention.81. Enlist Christian medical personnel to conduct researchon some of the unique medical problems in placeswhere the people group lives, including HIV/AIDS.82. Train church members in Disaster Relief so that theyare ready to be deployed when needed. Offer thistraining from a Christian perspective providingchaplains and others who share the Gospel in a caringway when people are hurting. For training schedulesvisit www.mobaptist.org/dr .83. Encourage Christian medical teams to conducthealthcare clinics on a regular basis, keeping laws forhealthcare volunteer teams in mind (state boards andlicensing differences, etc.).84. Start a Facebook page for the community orneighborhoods where your churches are reaching.Post community events and give it a local feed. PostBible verses, conversion testimonies of believers, andhelpful information that can become viral. Be sure toinclude the Evangelism Response Center (ERC)helpline: “for Spiritual Help call 1-888-JESUS-20.85. Invite Baptist college and seminary students to assistin evangelism efforts. Solicit ideas from them on waysto share the Gospel with Millennials (ages 18 to 33).86. Conduct a food pantry, shoe closet, or coat give-away.Register everyone attending and visit their homes topray with them and share your testimony and theGospel. Ask to conduct a Bible study in that homeusing the Seven Stories of Hope available freewww.mobaptist.org/macedonia.87. Attend ethnic festivals, particularly of a people groupyou want to reach, and get to know those attending.Offer Bible studies based on three levels of interest:followers of Jesus, active seekers, and everybodyelse. Develop a new church with followers of Jesus.88. Jericho Prayer Walk: For six straight weeks, praywhile walking in a part of the community before youevangelize. Pray with those you encounter. Offer tolead a Bible study in their home. Use the SevenStories of Hope available freewww.mobaptist.org/macedonia. On the seventh weekof prayerwalking, conduct a cookout, block party, etc.and seek to share your testimony and the Gospel.Announce that you’re starting a Bible study in acommunity center room (arranged in advance) if aBible study is not already underway.89. Distribute the Bible and study aids on flash drives tocollege students through campus ministries. Link it toFacebook pages, evangelistic websites, and movieclips from Christian movies on YouTube. Includeannouncements for spiritual help like calling 1-888JESUS-20 or a local church number.90. Sponsor a Christian music concert in your community.Provide decision counselors. Ask the musicians totake this on as a mission project, too. Considerconducting the event in a park; outside the receivingchurch’s facility to get maximum exposure.91. Purchase water bottles and distribute them atintersections. Wrap the Gospel message around thebottles and local church contact information or 1-888JESUS-20 for spiritual help.92. Visit every public library in your community and leavea 20 bill to pay for overdue fees. Include a personalexplanation of your faith and what grace (forgiveness)means to you. Provide contact information forwitnessing or list 1-888-JESUS-20 for spiritual help.93. Initiate spiritual conversations with strangers usingidioms, proverbs, and pithy sayings. Strike upconversations, listening for belief systems embeddedin favorite sayings. Follow-up with how the Bibleaddresses truth behind sayings.94. Initiate spiritual conversations with strangers askingfor their ideas of what makes a person patriotic.Loyalty to country is a good bridge to what you can beloyal to, including God, the Bible, and a lifelongrelationship with Jesus.
