Charlie Painter, USPTACharlie Painter's love affair with the sport of tennis was spurred by just that-alove affair. In hopes of improving the relationship with his wife-to-be, who justhappened to be a tennis pro, he became her eager pupil. Now Painter isenjoying his thirty-sixth year of coaching tennis (54 seasons).Charlie grew up in rural Dublin and attended Dublin High School (the only highschool in Dublin at the time). He played football, and basketball. He wasselected to the Third Team All Ohio Football team and was All Conference for 2years at different positions.Painter attended Wittenberg University where he graduated with a B.S. degree with a dual major inPhysics and Mathematics. He was on the Wittenberg University Football team and was selected as aScholar Athlete several times. After graduation, Charlie coached high school football (18 years) with 2offers to coach at the college level.Additionally, he coached high school Wrestling, Gymnastics, Baseball, and Basketball as well as Tennis.He later coached the Women’s Tennis team at Wright State University (DI) for 10 years and his teamreceived a National ranking (79/80). Painter was the Tournament Director for the Midwestern CollegiateConference (MCC) and was instrumental in bringing the tournament to Dayton/Wright State. He hascoached numerous tennis teams to conference championships as well as many athletes to AllConference, All Area, and All State selections. His 2003 Team was the OTCA State Poll Champion. Hehas received many Coach of the Year selections including Boys GWOC Coach of the Year in 2006 and2011, Girls GWOC Coach of the Year in 2009, and the GCL Coach of the year in 2004 and 2018.Painter received the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award in 2014. He was selected as theMidwest USPTA High School Coach of the Year in 2012. He is founder of the Miami Valley CoachesAssociation. Coach Painter has been inducted into the Dayton Amateur Tennis Hall of Fame, MVTCAHall of Fame, the Dublin Coffman Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Dublin City Schools Hall of Fame. In2018, he received the Mike Kelly/Don Donoher Coaching Award from the Dayton Agonis Club. TheAward is named after two of the All Time University of Dayton Coaching Greats. He is currently amember of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Executive Board and is the tournament director of theOTCA Southwest District Team Tournament.In addition to his coaching chores, Painter is the Endorser/Director OVTA Girls 18 District TennisTournament, and an OHSAA State Tournament Referee. He has been an OHSAA State Tournamentreferee for many years and handles all of the Golden Racket/Silver Racquet academic awards for theOTCA. He is an USPTA Professional with a rank of Elite Professional. Painter’s career coaching record is749-354. His overall coaching record including all sports is well over 1,000 wins. He coached 3 NFLplayers, a Big Ten Coach, and a major DI Athletic Director. He graduated from Wright State Universitywith an M.S. degree in guidance and counseling.He currently resides in Centerville with his wife, Karen, and has two children,-Cristian and Tory whocurrently are pursuing careers of their own.

Frank SachireFrank Sachire graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in1963 and then attended Mount Union College where he earneda Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1967. At Mount he was a four-yearletterman in football and two- time All-Ohio Conference lineman.He signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers butwas released after two exhibition games. He earned a Masters inEducation Degree with certifications in administration andguidance from Youngstown State University in 1973.Frank began his teaching and coaching career in 1967 at his alma mater. He taught highschool English for 35 years and during that time was an assistant basketball coach (9 years),assistant football coach (18 years) and head tennis coach (28 years). His overall record intennis is 325-164 with two league championships and 18 second place finishes. After retiringfrom teaching in 2002, he spent 12 years as a paid/volunteer assistant coach with theCanfield Girls’ Tennis Team and one year as Boys’ JV Coach at Austintown Fitch.During his 51 year coaching career, Frank taught tennis after school, weekends andsummers. He is a USPTA (P1) and USPTR (P) certified teaching professional and wasemployed for 34 years at the Boardman Tennis Center teaching private and group lessons. Ahighlight was teaching in the club’s Buddy-Up program for special needs pupils. Some othernotable tennis involvements include: Certified USTA Official (4 years), NEO Endorser toMidwest Closed Tournament (4 years), Steel Valley Conference Tournament Director (11years), Boys’ Sectional Tournament Director (16 years) and Girls’ Sectional TournamentDirector (30 years).For his efforts Frank has been awarded the following: induction into the University of MountUnion Athletic Hall of Fame (1993), NEO Herb Nold Volunteer of the Year Award (1998),Western Reserve Baptist Church Lay Person of the Year (2005) and induction into theAustintown Athletic Hall of Fame (2009).Frank and his wife of over 43 years, Patty, have recently moved to Mishawaka, Indiana to becloser to their son Ryan (Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Notre Dame), daughter-in-law Cindy(also employed at ND) and granddaughters Anna (10) and Emily (8).
