SANTA CRUZ COUNTYAPRIL 2021GRAPESCCINMember Contribu.onsIn Memory of Jude W.Our Sister in Sobriety Jude died February 5th, 2021 aher a 4 year ba le with Breast Cancer. She justcelebrated 23 years of Sobriety on February 2nd. Jude did a lot of Service work for our fellowship. Shewas in charge of the Diverter for several years and took many 12th step calls herself. She volunteered atthe Central office on many Mondays from 9-1, always with one of her faithful Schnauzers. Back in thedays of our New Year’s Eve pardes at the old Soquel Grange, she spent many hours in the kitchen bakinghams and turkeys. She was very loyal to her home group Twisted Sisters and wrote a beaudful quote onthe white board at the li le white church each Wednesday night for many to enjoy all week long. Alongwith Lisa A, Louise H, and myself she helped develop the Twisted Sisters meedng chips that aredistributed to many in recovery.Jude was an expert photographer studying with Ansel Adams, a world traveler, a teacher at heart, and aproud Jersey girl Viking woman. She was strong-willed, intelligent and very generous. She will be missedby many. Blessings, Jude, and thanks to you. We will meet again in the Big meedng in the sky.Submi ed by Denise R.In the Spirit of the Third Step (Our wridng topic in the wridng group this past month)Let Godlet god be the one who says nolet god be the one who wants to get even.let god be the one who carries that feeling of control or lack thereof for a really, really, really, long dme.let god be the one who drinks over it.let god be the one who gets hurt or in trouble.let god do it.so you don't have to.My Will As I Understand ItMy will ebbs toward light-hearted hopes like, "Does it come in my size?” to prayers that cover all like"May the rains soon come."I can, undoubtedly have soupier, more murky expectadons, like, "They'll get what's coming to them."My will can be stagnant at "Just this once, please, help me out God" or crying out desperately "Pleasedon't let this be the day I drink."Somedmes, when I am not paying much a endon, I nodce my will is given to the struggling alcoholicsinside and outside of these rooms. That's when I truly feel my will is not my own.Roxanne P.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTYAPRIL 2021GRAPESCCINOver EasyTurning them over, flipping the eggs without breaking the yolks, requires a light touch. And the willingness to dltthat hot pan with its spixng oiland jerk it right toward you, running the riskof burning yourself, seeing them aboutto slide out on your arm.Know the momentto push the pan away fast, straight forwardthen pull it back gently.as the eggs flip and se le.Let them sit.Don’t start meddling with them, shaking them in the pan just yet.Let a skin form, then ease them out on a plate.Turning it over is a skillI forget to pracdce somedmes. When I keep doing it, I get be er .Sdll, you can’t always beat the odds,so let it go, make a mess of things.just start again,I remind myself.More gentle this dme.Mary K.Another view of Step Three(from One Breath at a Time- Kevin Griffin, pg. 57-8)In Buddhism, the decision to commit ourselves to our spiritual growth is called Right Intendon. Thismeans “making a decision” to try to live a life based on the principles of compassion, awareness, andopenness. As with Step Three, we try to keep our purpose in mind in all our acdvides, bringing ourspiritual commitment to bear in all things. The Buddha said, “Intendon, I tell you, is karma,” whichmeans that the intendon behind acdons determines whether the acdon is skillful or not .Developing Right Intendon means paying closer a endon to ourselves, seeing what’s really behind ourwords and acdons. Meditadon itself trains us to to watch in this way, to see, moment to moment, what’sgoing on in our minds in a clear, non-judgmental way. When we apply this kind of a endon to ourselvesin daily life, we catch when we’re about to do or say something destrucdve; and, we can nodceopportunides to act more helpfully. Intendon acts as the driving force behind our spiritual growth, a constant reminder of what to let go ofand where to point our minds.
