ANNUALVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES:Update for Health ProfessionalsThis conference provides a practical anduseful update for primary care and subspecialtyphysicians, nurses, and other health careprofessionals caring for children, youth, andadults with complex health care needs anddevelopmental disabilities, including autismspectrum disorders. This year's conferencefeatures select topics addressing Issues ofdual diagnosis (developmental disabilities andemotional/behavioral disabilities). The courseprovides a variety of diagnostic and treatmentperspectives, research findings, and clinicalguidelines, plus an overview of relevantinformation for pediatricians, family physicians,internists, nurse practitioners, psychologists,psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthprofessionals who are involved in the care ofindividuals with these special needs.Topics for our annual courses are significantlybased on feedback and evaluations from ourpast participants. By demand, this year'sconference focuses on the co-morbiditiesof behavioral/emotional health within thepopulation of individuals with developmentaldisabilities across the lifespan. Attention is directed toevidence-based treatment outcomes for Autism,as well as overviews of psychopharmacology,diagnosis and treatment of anxiety disorders,and considerations for cognitive behavioraltherapy.Keynote presentations feature outstandingclinicians and experts in health policyresearch, and epidemiology. Current bloethlcalconundrums such as surrogate decisionmaking will be featured, along with a legalpotpourri of topics including commitmentsand conservatorship. Select multi-culturalcommunity programs will present uniqueservice approaches and the annual ShriverLecture will again be presented.The "Living with Disabilities" presentationswill be a daily highlight, per specific requestof past attendees.
