As an affiliatedgroup, youth enrolled as 4-H Clover Kids have activities and programs suitable for their age group. CloverKids are not eligible to participate in activities, recognition programs and competitive events reserved forolder youth.Competitive events and competitive judging are inappropriate for Clover Kids. Clover Kids may have animalprojects; however, it is recommended animal projects should not exceed a rabbit in size. Starting in 2014, Texas 4‐H will host an Invitational Photography Judging Contestat Texas 4‐H Roundup. This contest, similar to livestock, consumer decision making, orhorse judging will challenge the 4‐H members to ability to evaluate and select the correct order for fourphotographs in a class. In addition to the placing of photographs, contest participants will alsoparticipate in problems classes testing their knowledge about cameras, camera settings, photographyeffects, and more.The 2014 contest will be held as an invitational contest on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 during Texas 4‐HRoundup. Counties can enter as many teams and individuals as they wish and participants must beeither intermediate or senior age 4‐H members. Consumer Decision Making Contest InformationGood consumer skills can help you get more for your money. Consumer Decision Making gives youth theopportunity to make wise decisions when shopping. Consumer Decision Making is a judging contestdesigned to teach kids to observe, compare and make consumer based decisions based on facts. 4‐Hersuse their consumer knowledge to rank similarly based products to fit a given scenario. Kids learn toorganize their thoughts and to defend their decisions in oral reasons. District RoundupDistrict Roundup provides youth an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills in several differentcontests. FEMA seeks applicants for Youth Preparedness CouncilThe U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking applicantsfor its Youth Preparedness Council.The Youth Preparedness Council is a unique opportunity for youth leaders to serve on a highly distinguished nationalcouncil and participate in the Youth Preparedness Council Summit. Additionally, the youth leaders have the opportunityto complete a self-selected youth preparedness project and to share their opinions, experiences, ideas, solutions andquestions regarding youth disaster preparedness with the leadership of FEMA and national youth preparednessorganizations. Once selected, members serve on the Council for one year, with the option to extend for an additionalyear, if formally requested by FEMA.Council activities and projects center around five key areas of engagement: Programs, Partnerships, Events, PublicSpeaking/Outreach and Publishing. Members represent the youth perspective on emergency preparedness and shareinformation with their communities. They also meet with FEMA on a regular basis to provide ongoing input onstrategies, initiatives and projects throughout the duration of their term.Any individual between the ages of 12 and 17 who is engaged in individual and community preparedness or who hasexperienced a disaster that has motivated him or her to make a positive difference in his or her community, may apply toserve on the Youth Preparedness Council.
