West Seattle, Burien , White Center, Vashon and Maury IslandsChair’s Message for DecemberOn this day after Thanksgiving, I feel thankful forthe honor to have led the 34th District Democrats.Challenging and rewarding to be sure but the 34thDems’ work is far from done. Now, more than ever,we need to re-commit to fight actual evil poised tolead our country to ruin. Abuse of power in our nationis not new but the hubris of this newly-elected President is unparalleled and should challenge us to action. A stranger to truth and civil discourse, he can’t befought with resolutions or infernally slow process. Wemust challenge him door-to-door, neighbor-byneighbor. We live in a blue district but we can make adifference in the 2018 Congressional and state houseelections. What can you personally do to help localparty organizations? Do you have the energy, thefunds, or the time to engage? Did you help this year inthe 41st or the 30th, where out-of-district volunteersreally made a difference? If you didn’t help, I hopethat bubble you live in has permanently burst becausethe country can’t afford you now. Recently, I’ve beencontacted by many new folks who want to find out howthey can help the local party. Each conversation, I’vehad to start from scratch. It takes more than one person. What can you do to help your neighbor, your district, your country? Show up. Just show up. Out ofmany, one.My sincere thanks to everyone whoever did anything to help during my terms! You know who you are. Please celebrate the season with the 34th Dems onDecember 14th at 6:30. Please bring a main dish, appetizer, or dessert to share. We did not get the result we wanted, but we took a step, in shattering a barrierthat’s still there. And little girls and littleboys are going to have a different sense ofthe possible thanks to her nomination andher candidacy. That doesn’t mean we don’t hurt, forwhat was an unexpected loss. Expectedlosses are hard enough. Unexpected onesare just worse. And that’s okay. I was telling my team: You’re allowed to mope fora week and a half—maybe two if youreally need it.
