We valueeducation, hope and opportunity, and are willingto put our ideals into action to fight povertywith diplomas. We value education, hope and opportunity, and are willing to put our ideals into actionto fight poverty with diplomas. In 2018 another 160 students graduated highschool, bringing our total number of graduatesto more than 2,400. Their graduation makes itpossible for their families to no longer live in poverty, as demonstrated in our updated long termimpact study. Through your generosity, parentscan build a better life for their family than theone they know today, commit to an education fortheir children that they didn’t have themselves, and believe that their grandchildren will neverknow the hardships of living in poverty.Over the past 25 years our Antigua FamilyDevelopment Center was built and lovingly usedby thousands of children and families partneringwith us. In 2018 we invested in much neededimprovements, including a clinic/pharmacy renovation to better serve our families’ health needs, centralization of our education and psychologysupport programs, and a refresh of the VisitorExperience houses to provide greater contextfor the culture and geography of Guatemala forvisitors. We explored innovations for our housing program and have implemented the use ofglass windows and translucent roof panels in thehomes we build, folding bunk beds for familiesto optimize space in small homes, and retainingwalls for homes in precarious positions.Every day our social workers, teachers, youth leaders, and the rest of ourteam delivered on their commitmentto the children and families we serve. In June of 2018, the Volcano Fuegoerupted with devastating effect near our Antiguasite. While our partner families were not directlyaffected, there were thousands of people nearbywho lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. Wereceived more than 40,000 in relief donations, and investments were made to assist both in theimmediate aftermath and for longer term relieffor those directly affected. We worked in collaboration with a number of other organizations toensure that immediate needs were met for themunicipalities directly impacted, that temporaryshelters for families had water and psychologicalsupport, and helped build permanent homes forfamilies where possible.Common Hope ended the year on strong financial footing again in 2018. Revenues returned tonormal growth following a significant bequestgift received in 2017, and we again utilized aportion of this gift for strategic investments.Your impact changes the future for more than14,000 moms, dads, brothers and sisters inGuatemala, and we are incredibly grateful foryour continued investment in this life-changingwork.Together this Common Hope family continuesto make a difference every day. Thank you foryour generosity.Gratefully,OPERATING REVENUECommon Hope Sponsors & PartnersGifts from IndividualsGifts from Organizations (Including Grants)Other RevenueTOTAL OPERATING REVENUE20172018 2,024,237 1,888,184 1,121,805 140,401 5,174,627 2,121,490 1,268,070 1,067,086 132,593 4,589,239OPERATING EXPENSESProgram ServicesEducationFamily DevelopmentHealth CareHousingEmergency Relief*TOTAL PROGRAM SERVICESManagement & GeneralFundraisingTOTAL OPERATING EXPENSES 2,189,814 1,122,048 582,480 155,286 0 4,049,628 600,304 322,292 4,972,224 1,864,769 1,080,950 554,794 223,351 44,584 3,768,448 553,735 325,657 4,647,84046%Sponsors& Partners23%Gifts fromOrganizations3%OtherGifts fromIndividualsPROGRAM 9%Health CareFamilyDevelopmentUSE OF FUNDSNET ASSETSOperating RevenueLess Operating ExpensesNon-Operating Activity* 202,403 70,351( 52,271)Increase, Decrease in Net Assets** 272,754( 110,872)NET ASSETS, BEGINNING OF YEAR 6,017,858 6,290,612NET ASSETS, END OF YEAR 6,290,612 6,179,740( 58,601)*Non-Operating Activity reflects changes in the value of investment gain/(losses).81%ProgrammingExpenses7% 12%Fundraising16028%*Program expenses in 2018 includes emergency relief related to the eruption of Volcán de Fuego.**In 2018, Common Hope budgeted and planned for the recognized operating net loss.Shari BlindtExecutive DirectorSOURCES OF REVENUENUMBER OFGRADUATESIN 2018Management& GeneralCommon Hope is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1986 and is audited annually.
