IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSThis vacuum cleaner complies with current safety requirements.Inappropriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage to property.To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the vacuum cleaner,please read the operating instructions carefully before using it forthe first time. They contain important information on its safety, operation and maintenance.Keep these operating instructions in a safe place and pass themon to any future user.Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the power supplywhen you have finished using it, before changing any accessories,as well as for maintenance work and cleaning. Turn the vacuumcleaner off and unplug it.Correct use This vacuum cleaner is intended for cleaning flooring in domestichouseholds and similar residential environments. This vacuum cleaner can be used for all normal cleaning of carpets, rugs and hard flooring. This vacuum cleaner is not intended for outdoor use. This vacuum cleaner is intended for use at altitudes of up to1300 ft (4000 m) above sea level. The vacuum cleaner must only be used to vacuum dry floor surfaces. Do not use on people and animals. Any other usage, modification or alteration is not supported by the manufacturer and couldbe dangerous. Persons which lack physical, sensory or mental abilities or experience with the machine should not use it without supervision or instruction by a responsible person.4

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSSafety with children Danger of suffocation! Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags,etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of children. Do not allow the vacuum cleaner to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used near children.Technical safety Before using the vacuum cleaner and its accessories, check forany visible signs of damage. Do not use a damaged appliance. Ensure that the connection data on the data plate of the vacuumcleaner (voltage and frequency) match the household power supply.Without modifications, the vacuum cleaner is suited for 50Hz or60Hz. The electrical outlet must be fitted with a 15 A fuse. Reliable and safe operation of this vacuum cleaner can only beassured if it has been connected to the electricity supply. Repairs must only be performed by an authorized service agent inaccordance with national and local safety regulations. Unauthorizedrepairs could cause injury or machine damage. Otherwise the warranty will be void. Do not pull or carry the vacuum cleaner by the power cord, andbe careful not to damage the cord when withdrawing the plug fromthe socket. Keep the cord away from sharp edges and do not let itget pinched, for example, under a door. Avoid running the vacuumcleaner over the cord. This could damage the cord, plug or socket.The appliance must not be used if any of these have suffered damage. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if the power cord is damaged. Ifthe power cord is damaged it must be replaced together with thecord reel. For safety reasons this must only be done by Miele Technical Service or a Miele authorized service technician.5

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When vacuuming, in particular fine dust, e.g. sawdust, sand, plaster, flour, talcum powder etc., electrostatic charges build up naturally.Under certain conditions these charges will be released. To avoid theunpleasant effects of these discharges, a metal inlay has been incorporated into the underside of the handle. Please make sure that youkeep your hand in constant contact with this metal strip during vacuuming. Do not let the vacuum cleaner get wet. Clean only with a dry clothor slightly damp cloth when disconnected from the electrical supply. Repairs should only be carried out by a Miele-authorized servicetechnician. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons can causeconsiderable danger to users. Defective components should be replaced by Miele original partsonly. Only with these parts can the manufacturer guarantee thesafety of the appliance.Proper use To avoid the risk of damage, do not use the vacuum cleaner without the FilterBag, dust compartment filter and exhaust filter in place. The dust compartment cover will not close without a FilterBag inserted. Do not force it. Do not vacuum up anything which has been burning or smoking,e.g., cigarettes, ashes or hot ash, whether glowing or apparently extinguished. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up any water, liquid ordamp dirt. Wait until any freshly cleaned or shampooed rugs or carpets are completely dry before attempting to vacuum. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner dust. Toner, suchas that used in printers and photocopiers, can conduct electricity. Do not vacuum up any flammable or combustible liquids or gasesand do not vacuum in areas where such substances are stored.6

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Do not vacuum at head height and do not let the suction get anywhere near a person's head.Accessories To avoid the risk of injury when vacuuming with a Miele turbobrush, do not touch the rotating roller brush. It is not advisable to vacuum directly with the handle, i.e., withoutan accessory attached, as the rim could get damaged and you couldhurt yourself on sharp edges. Only use genuine FilterBags, filters and accessories with the"Original Miele" logo on them. Otherwise the manufacturer cannotguarantee the safety of the product.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS7

Caring for the environmentDisposal of the packing materialDisposing of your old applianceThe cardboard box and packing materials protect the appliance during shipping. They have been designed to bebiodegradable and recyclable.Before disposing of your old applianceremove the FilterBag and filters and dispose of them with your householdwaste.Ensure that any plastic wrappings,bags, etc. are disposed of safely andkept out of the reach of children. Danger of suffocation!Electronic and electrical appliancescontain many valuable materials. Theyalso contain certain materials, compounds and components which wereessential for their correct functioningand safety. These could be hazardousto your health and to the environment ifdisposed of with general waste or ifhandled incorrectly. Please do not,therefore, dispose of your old appliancewith general waste.Disposing of the FilterBagsand filtersFilterbags and filters are made from environmentally friendly materials, and canbe disposed of with the normal household waste, as long as they have beenused exclusively for general householddust.10Instead, please make use of officiallydesignated collection and disposalpoints to dispose of and recycle electrical and electronic appliances. By law,you are solely responsible for deletingany personal data from the applianceprior to disposal. Please ensure thatyour old appliance poses no risk to children while being stored for disposal.

Preparing for useConnect the suction hose to the handleAttaching the suction hose Insert the hose connector into thesuction socket on the vacuumcleaner until it clicks into position. Todo this, line up the guides on the twopieces. Fit the connector at the other end ofthe suction hose into the handle untilit clicks into position.Connecting the handle to the wandDisconnecting the suction hose Insert the handle into the wand until itclicks into position. To do this, line upthe guides on the two pieces. Press the release buttons at the sideof the hose connector, and lift thehose from the socket. To release the handle from the wand,press the release button and pull thehandle out of the wand, twisting itslightly as you do so.11

Adjusting the telescopic suctionwandOne part of the telescopic suction wandis packed inside the other and it can beadjusted to suit your height for comfortable vacuuming. Push the suction wand into the floorhead and turn it clockwise or counterclockwise until it clicks into position. To separate the suction wand fromthe floorhead, press the release button and pull the suction wand awayfrom the floorhead, twisting it slightlyas you do so.Adjusting the floorheadThis vacuum cleaner can be used fordaily cleaning of carpets, rugs, and robust hard flooring.Miele offers a range of other floorheads,brushes, and accessories for othertypes of flooring and special applications(see "Optional accessories"). Press the release button and adjustthe telescopic suction wand to the required length.Please observe the flooring manufacturer's cleaning and care instructions.Connect the suction wand to thefloorheadVacuum carpets and rugs with thebrush retracted: Press the foot switch .12

Clean hard flooring which is not susceptible to scratching, and flooring withgaps or deep crevices in it with thebrush protruding: Press the foot switch .If the suction power of the floorheadseems too high, reduce the suctionuntil the head is easier to maneuver(see "Use - Regulating the suctionpower").Activating the TimeStrip exhaust filter change indicator on the exhaustfilterDepending on the model, your vacuumcleaner will be fitted as standard withone of the following exhaust filters. Press the release button on the recessed grip and raise the dust compartment lid as far as it will go. Remove the indicator strip.a AirCleanb AirClean Plus 50 (light blue)c Active AirClean 50 (black)d HEPA AirClean 50 (white)If your vacuum cleaner is fitted with exhaust filter c or d, you need to activatethe TimeStrip exhaust filter change indicator. Press the TimeStrip exhaust filterchange indicator.13

Take care not to trap the filterbag when doing so.How the TimeStrip exhaust filterchange indicator worksThe TimeStrip exhaust filter changeindicator shows the remaining functional life of the exhaust filter. After approx. 50 operating hours, or approx.one year of average use, the display willbe completely filled with red.Using the accessories supplied Press the release button on the accessories compartment lid.The accessories compartment will thenopen. Take out the accessory you require. Press down firmly on the lid to closeit.14

Convertible floorhead Insert the plug into the socket. If vacuuming for longer than 30minutes, the cord must be pulled outall the way. Danger of overheatingand damage.Rewinding the power cordFor general use and also for vacuumingthe stairs. For safety reasons when vacuuming stairs, it is best to start at thebottom of the stairs and move upwards.UseUnwinding the cord Turn off at the wall socket and unplug. Press the rewind foot control. Thecord will rewind automatically.Turning the vacuum cleaner on andoff Pull the power cord out to the required length (max. cord length approx. 21" (6.5 m).15

Press the On/Off foot control .Regulating the suction powerThe suction power can be regulated tosuit the type of flooring being cleaned.Reducing the suction power reducesthe amount of effort required to maneuver the floor brush. Turn the suction power selector manually to the suction power setting yourequire.Opening the air inlet valveThe vacuum cleaner has symbols onthe controls which indicate the type ofuse the settings are suitable for. Curtains, fabric Upholstery, cushions Deep pile carpets, rugs and runners Energy-saving vacuuming. Thissetting is also very quiet Low pile carpet and rugs Hard flooring and heavily soiledcarpets and rugsWhen using the adjustable floorhead,if the suction seems too high, reducethe suction until the floorhead is easier to maneuver.It is easy to reduce the suction powerfor a short time, e.g., to prevent rugs orother objects being sucked into thevacuum cleaner. Open the air inlet valve on the handlefar enough to reduce the suctionpower.This reduces the suction on the respective nozzle used.During vacuuming When vacuuming, pull the vacuumcleaner behind you on its wheels. Youcan stand it upright for vacuumingstairs and curtains, etc.16

Removethe plug from the socket.Parking, transport and storage Stand the vacuum cleaner upright.Park system for pauses during vacuumingIt is a good idea to retract the telescopic suction wand fully.The Park system allows you to conveniently park the wand and floorheadduring short pauses in vacuuming.17

– Motor protection filter– Original Miele exhaust filterThese will need to be replaced fromtime to time to ensure that your vacuumcleaner performs efficiently.We recommend only using genuineFilterBags, filters, and accessorieswith the "Original Miele" logo onthem. This will ensure that the suction power of the vacuum cleaner ismaintained, giving the best possiblecleaning results.FilterBags with the "Original Miele"logo on them are not made from paper or paper-based materials and nordo they have a cardboard collar. Thisis why our FilterBags are particularlylong-lasting and reliable.Please note that appliance faults anddamage originating from the use ofaccessories which do not carry the"Original Miele" logo will not be covered by the appliance guarantee. Slot the floorbrush downwards intoone of the parking attachments onthe sides of the vacuum cleaner.This makes the vacuum cleaner easierto carry or store.Maintenance Always switch off the vacuumcleaner for maintenance work andremove the plug from the outlet.The Miele filtration system consists ofthree components:– Original Miele FilterBag18Purchasing new FilterBags and filtersOriginal Miele FilterBags and filters areavailable from the Miele web store,Miele Technical Service, and your Mieledealer.Ordering the correct FilterBags andfiltersOnly use original Miele GN FilterBagswith a blue collar and original Miele filters. These are identified by the "ORIGINAL Miele" logo on the packaging.

FilterBags are disposable and intended to be used only once. Dispose of the entire FilterBag. Do notattempt to re-use. Blocked pores reduce the efficiency of the vacuumcleaner.Every packet of original Miele FilterBagscontains four bags, one AirClean exhaust filter, and one motor protection filter.
