SJSU King Library - 2014 Faculty SurveyPrepared by Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics – December 2014The SJSU University Library Board as part of its improvement process decided to conduct areview of the SJSU King Library. The Board decided to seek input of SJSU faculty in order toreview existing and proposed library policy. Accordingly, a survey was designed to gatherinformation about library use among SJSU faculty and SJSU faculty opinion about the futuredirection of the library.This online survey was developed and conducted by the SJSU University Library Board inconsultation with Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics. In November 2014, surveys weresent to 1,746 individuals, and a total of 454 responses were received. This is a 26% responserate and a sampling error of 4.0%.The results of the survey are summarized below. If you have any questions or need additionalinformation, please contact Dr. John Briggs, Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics at (408)924-1520.Highlights/Selected Findings:General 53% (239 out of 450) of the faculty were tenured or tenured track, 43% of the faculty waslecturers (q1).644% (292 out of 453) of the faculty have been affiliated with SJSU for seven years or more (q3).Library Resources: Frequency of Use 89% (392 out of 453) of the faculty say they have often or sometimes used the SJSU Librarywebsite (q4.i).20% (86 out of 438) of the faculty say they have often or sometimes used primary source material(q4.n).20% (85 out of 434) of the faculty say they have often or sometimes used student study rooms(q4.l).Library Resources: Mode of Use 85% (377 out of 442) of the faculty have often or sometimes accessed library resources remotelywhile 68% have often or sometimes visited the library to access these resources (q5).Activities While Visiting Library 66% (285 out of 433) of the faculty often or sometimes visit the library to check out materials(q6.h).16% (68 out of 435) of the faculty often or sometimes visit the library to use computers or laptops(q6.i).Library Resources: Importance 97% (414 out of 429) of the faculty say electronic journal, magazine, or newspaper articles arevery or somewhat important (q7.d).96% (414 out of 440) of the faculty say that electronic books are very or somewhat important(q7.b).72% (305 out of 423) of the faculty say that music scores are very or somewhat important (q7.h).1
