Parent/Student Manual – Home SchoolProgram OverviewThe Dual Enrollment Program at Broward College (BC) is an accelerated program that allowseligible public/charter, private and home school secondary students to take postsecondarycoursework and simultaneously earn high school and college credits, saving both time andmoney! College courses are offered at Broward College campuses/centers, including the BrowardCollege Online Campus, and at several high school campuses.Early AdmissionEarly Admission, a form of dual enrollment, allows eligible high school senior students to enrollfull-time at BC. Students must enroll in at least 12 credits per term and maintain a college GPAof 2.0 or greater. Early admission students wishing to matriculate to BC will need to submit theirfinal high school transcript showing their graduation date.College AcademyThe College Academy at BC offers high school juniors enrolled as full-time in the program theopportunity to receive a high school diploma from The School Board of Broward County, Floridaand an Associates in Arts (AA) degree from Broward College. College Academy students aresubject to additional eligibility criteria as published by the College Academy.**It is the responsibility of the parent to select courses from the approved dual credit course list(See Appendix A) that fulfill home school high school graduation requirements. For advisingassistance you may refer to the general education and program maps on BC’s website.3

The PERT exam is of no cost to the student on the first attempt.Students must pay 15 for each retake. Please visit www.broward.edu/testing for PERT study guidequestions and testing center locations and times.Continued Eligibility Requirements Complete a Dual Enrollment Recommendation Form each term with parent/legalguardian, student and the Broward County District Home Education Office Officialsignatures. Maintain a 2.0 Broward College GPA Earn a grade of “C” or better in each college course Early Admission students who receive a “D” or “F” grade may only be allowed tocontinue taking courses if approved by the parent/legal guardian and the BrowardCounty District Home Education Office and still meet program eligibility requirements.4

Parent/Student Manual – Home SchoolOnline Application Process1. New dual enrollment students who have not been admitted to the dual enrollment program mustfill out a BC online application. Access the Guide to Apply Online for assistance.2. Students will print a copy of the BC application confirmation page for reference of their BC IDnumber.New Online Registration Process1. Parents/legal guardians will complete the “Recommendation and Articulation Agreement for DualEnrollment Home School Student Form.” (See Appendix B for Sample)2. Parents/legal guardians will select courses from the approved dual credit course list and documenton the recommendation form in order to provide students with options if their initial course selectionis closed/unavailable. Dual Enrollment students are limited to 11 credits per term. Early Admissionstudents (high school seniors) must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits per fall and spring term of theirsenior year with no more than a maximum of 18 credits per term. The maximum number of creditsallowed to be taken while in the dual enrollment program is 60 credits. All sections of the Recommendation and Articulation Agreement for Dual Enrollment HomeSchool Student Form must be filled out before submitting to BC; including BC student IDnumber obtained from the BC online application confirmation page, number of credits forwhich students are approved to register, specific approved courses, and signatures of theparent/legal guardian, student and the Home Education Office at Broward County PublicSchools.o The recommendation form will be submitted to Broward College at a BCAdmissions office.o Please include copy of test scores or AP scores if applicable.3. Students are now ready to register online for open and approved courses during the publishedregistration dates. Access the Steps to Register (See Appendix C) document for assistance.4. Once registered for approved courses students must print out an official copy of their BC courseschedule. Students will bring a copy of their BC course schedule, Recommendation and ArticulationAgreement for Dual Enrollment Home School Student Form, and BC ID card to a Broward Collegebookstore in order to obtain required textbook(s). Home school dual enrolled students are no longer responsible to pay for their own textbooksbeginning Fall term 2018. If students are enrolled in courses on multiple BC campuses they may be required to pick uptheir textbooks from multiple campuses.5. If students will be parking on campus, they will need to order their parking decal online.6. If any student has an IEP at school and would like to continue to receive the same services here atBC, the student will need to visit the Accessibility Resources Office. These services are notautomatically transferred to BC. It is highly recommended that students with an IEP utilize theservices here at BC as well to ensure maximum student success.7. Students are now ready to attend class. 5

(See Appendix D)Course Drop/Withdrawal ProcedureStudents may drop/withdraw from courses by logging into their BC account online or visiting a campusadmissions office in person.
