3RD ANNUAL STUDENT T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTESTCONTEST OVERVIEW PRIZESMinneapolis College students are invited to submit their designs for the 3rd annual student t-shirt design contest. The winning design will bereproduced on t-shirts and sold at Minneapolis College Store and minneapoliscollegestore.com. The winning designer will receive a 100gift certificate for use at Minneapolis College Store along with a free t-shirt featuring their design. Finalists will each receive a 25 giftcertificate for use at Minneapolis College Store.WHO CAN ENTER:DESIGN GUIDELINES: Minneapolis College students enrolled in at least one creditedcourse for the spring 2021 semester. Previous winners of the t-shirt design contest are ineligible. Minneapolis College employees are ineligible regardless ofcurrent student status. The design will be featured on the front of a t-shirt and shouldbe no larger than 11 inches across and 11.5 inches inheight. No back or sleeve designs will be included in thecontest. All designs should have a maximum of 5 colors with a whitebackground; final t-shirt color will be determined by CollegeStore staff. If choosing to use Minneapolis College’s colorpalette, please reference the attached pages of the BrandManual. All designs must include the words “Minneapolis College” insome form. To align with current College branding, designsthat include “MCTC” will be disqualified. Use of Minneapolis College’s logos is optional, however ifused, logos must be appear exactly as shown in the college’sBrand Manual (attached). Submissions that reinvent orredesign any official Minneapolis College logos will not beconsidered. Each entry must be an original creation of the contestant thatpromotes Minneapolis College spirit and has never beenpublished. Entries containing profanity, trademarks, or copyrighted worksof another person/business will not be accepted.HOW TO ENTER: Entries can be submitted via email tocollegestore@minneapolis.edu or in-person during businesshours at Minneapolis College Store (T.1500). All entries must include the student’s full name, StarID,email address, and phone number for contact. Each student is limited to two entries. Electronic files can be submitted as JPEG, PNG, PSD, AI orEPS documents. All files should be high resolution (minimum300 pixels per inch). All submissions (electronic or hand drawn) should besubmitted at 100% of the size intended to be printed on the tshirt (no larger than 11x11.5 inches).IMPORTANT DATES: Submission deadline is 11:59pm on March 17, 2021.Contest finalists will be notified on Friday, March 19.Online and in-person voting will take place March 22-24.The winning design will be announced on Friday, March 26.T-shirts featuring the winning design will be available forpurchase at the College Store andminneapoliscollegestore.com late April 2021.JUDGING: Minneapolis College Store employees will narrow thesubmissions and put the finalist selections to a campus-widevote. Finalists will be selected based on how well their designreflects Minneapolis College as well as creativity, originality,and adherence to design guidelines.AGREEMENT:By submitting an entry, the student agrees to have their winning art reproduced on this year’s student designed t-shirt to be sold at theMinneapolis College Store. If your design is chosen, we reserve the right to make minor edits as needed.All entries will become the exclusive property of the Minneapolis College Store. Core Elements of Our BrandLogomark, color, typography andphotography, are the buildingblocks of our brand system. Theyare important to presenting a clear,consistent approach to who we are andwhat makes us unique, supporting andbuilding the Minneapolis College brand.11

Logo NarrativeNARRATIVEThe lines in the Minneapolis College markrepresents the multiple paths to educationprovided and the architecture of the campuswalkways.The multi-tone purple, a heritage color forMinneapolis College and a color often associatedwith wisdom and ambition, symbolizes thediversity of the faculty and students. The green, acolor associated with renewal and life, representsthe green space in the outdoor common area, arefreshing surprise in an urban setting.The curve of the mark reflects the downtownlandscape of the campus.The spire centered along the bottom is the spark ofcreativity, with each of the five points representingthe five Minneapolis College values: StudentCentered, Inclusion, Community, Excellence andIntegrity. It also represents the guidance providedby Minneapolis College and is evocative of thebeacon which education is for success.12

Logo VersionsTHE MARKThe mark is made up of two components:The Minneapolis College logomark and thewordmark. The mark must always be used as aprovided file, and never typeset by the user, toensure the correct scale relationship and spacingare maintained. The mark comes in multiplecolor treatments and file formats. For detailedinformation, see the Electronic Artwork sectionon page 34VERTICAL MARKThe vertical mark versions are best suited forapplications that require a portrait orientationwhere the Minneapolis College mark can beproportioned to visually maximize the identity.HORIZONTAL MARKThe horizontal mark versions are best suited forapplications that require a landscape orientationwhere the Minneapolis College mark can beproportioned to visually maximize the identity.PREFERRED USAGEThe vertical format for the Minneapolis andCommunity and Technical College logo is thepreferred format and should be used wheneverpossible. The balance between the elementsin all versions has been carefully constructedand should never be reconfigured.13

No graphicelement or text of any kind should be placed withinthe clear space. The recommended clear space istwo times the height of the letter M in the word“Minneapolis” (X height of letter M).X MINIMUM SIZEIn reproducing our logo, consider its size andlegibility and use common sense. Logo IntegrityINCORRECT USAGEThe integrity of the Minneapolis College identityis diminished if the mark is incorrectly applied.Unauthorized versions and unacceptable usageof the mark place its legal protection at risk. Color PaletteLOGO IDENTITY COLORSThe colors of the Minneapolis College logo are asimportant to the brand as the shape of the logo itself.The Minneapolis College core color palette consistsof three colors: Inspired Violet, Cyber Grape andPark Meadow. The secondary color palette consistsof three additional colors: Agile Sky, CosmopolitanStone and Tender Steel.The multiple layered purples represent thediversity of the community. The deep purple colorwas chosen to honor the legacy of the purple inthe College’s past marks. The green supportsthe confident educational experience providedby Minneapolis College and also representsthe green space in the common area betweenbuildings, reflects the downtown landscape ofthe campus. The blue represents the sky-highpossibilities for students and employees. Thisbalanced mix of colors and shades includestraditional and contemporary hues, as well as anassortment of natural hues.
