The backyard charcoal grill has becomepart of the American way of 1 ife during theSummer months.Charcoal gri lls,however, can be fire hazards.Be sure when you use yours to:**Use only the I ighter fluids designatedfor use with charcoal grills whenstarting your fire.NEVER USEGASOLINE TO START YOUR FIRE.**Immediately after using the 1 ighterfluid, replace the fluid containerin it's storage location.Do notset it down by the grill.**NEVER USE GASULINE TO QUICKEN ACHARCOAL FIRE.Don1t add a charcoalstarter fluid to the fire afterit has begun.The f I ames can t rave 1up to the can and cause an explosion.**Always keep starter fluid in containerswith chi ldproof caps, and keepthem out of reach of children.**Don't wear loose clothing or robesaround charcoal grills.Flaminggrease can ignite your clothing.**Keep a smal I spray can of waterhandy to douse flaming grease.A spray bottle, such as used forsprinkling clothes, filled withwater is excellent for this.,LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GASLiquefied petroleum gas (LPG) when used to fire ahome barbaque, is contained under pressure in asteel cylinder. The contents of an LPG cylinder, vaporized and in a confined area, have the explosiveforce of several sticks of dynamite. Therefore, thewise user of LPG will be aware of the dangersinvolved and the precautions that must be taken toavoid accidents.No LPG burner should ever be ignited until thefollowing steps are taken:" Read the manufacuter's instructions and be sureyou thoroughly understand them. Do not transport LPG cylinders in the trunk of apassenger vehicle. A filled cylinder should alwaysbe transported in an upright position on the floor ofa vehicle with all windows open. Remove the cylinder from the vehicle as soon as possible. Neverleave a cylinder in a parked vehicle." Using the proper size of wrench, make sure that allconnections are tight. Remember that fittings onflammable gas cylinders have left-hand threads,requiring effort In a counterclockwise direction totighten. To make sure that connections are tight,apply a soapy solution to detect leaks. If any bubbles are produced the connections must be tightened further." Make sure that grease is not allowed to drip on thehose or cylinders. Never allow children to use a gas-fired barbeque." Never use a gas-fired barbecue inside any structure." Never store any LPG cylinder-attached to thebarbecue, or spares-inside any partofa structure,including porches and balconies. Don't betempted by a rainy day to use outdoor cookingequipment Inside-not even in a garage or on aporch or balcony. Store cylinders, including those attached to barbecues, outdoors in a shaded, cool area out ofdirect sunlight.
