The program provides an opportunity for nursesto further their education and increase their potential for career advancement. The curriculum offers advanced courses innursing research, leadership, nursing theories and community health. Designed for working professionals, this is a selfpaced online program (with the exception of a 20 - hour clinical component in the NUR 3634 Community Health Nursingand 20 - hour clinical component in NUR 4945C Nursing Capstone courses.) that can be completed as quickly as threesemesters or as slowly as one course per semester.PROGRAM CHECKLIST1. Complete a minimum 120 credits or as designated by program academic hours with a grade point average (GPA) of2.0 excluding college preparatory level courses, technical non-transfer and vocational level courses. Complete core courses with a grade of "C" or higher. Complete at least 25 percent of the total degree requirements at Valencia College (e.g., a 120 semester-hour degreerequires at least 30 semester hours completed at Valencia College). At least 50 percent of the upper division (3###,4###) courses must be completed at Valencia College. Demonstrate foreign language proficiency (at the intermediate level) equivalent to 2 years in high school or asequence of 2 college credit courses in a single language. HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM GUIDELINESFOR THE BACHELOR’S IN NURSING (BSN)Valencia’s Health Sciences programs are offered through the School of Allied Health and Nursing, which provideinformation about specific admission criteria for the programs. The Health Sciences Program Guides, of which this is one,are developed for a specific academic year (August to July) and, as a rule, changes to admission and programrequirements become effective at the start of an academic year; however, Valencia College reserves the right to makechanges in admission and program requirements as circumstances require. If a mid-year change becomesnecessary, it will be indicated via You may apply to only one bachelor’s-level Health Sciences program at a time and enrollment is limited to only oneHealth Sciences program in a term.ATLAS EMAILAll communication from Valencia relative to program admission will be via your Atlas email. Written communication yousend to Valencia staff should also be via your Atlas email and should include your name and your Valencia ID number.MANDATORY ORIENTATIONFollowing acceptance to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, to register, student must completed the online Bachelor’sNew Student Orientation. Failure to do so will result in hold being placed on account. The hold will prevent registration andwill not be removed until orientation is complete.ONLINE PROGRAM/TESTINGThe RN to BSN Completion Program is an online program with the exception of a 20 - hour clinical component in thecommunity health nursing course. A very few of the courses may require on-site testing at a Valencia campus or atanother site if Valencia is not convenient for you. If you want to take your examinations in another location, you will needto do so at an approved testing site such as a college or public library that offers proctoring services and which mayrequire a fee. Valencia can provide a listing of testing sites throughout Florida.BACKGROUND CHECK, FINGERPRINTING, DRUG TESTING, IMMUNIZATIONS AND CPR CERTIFICATION TheHealth Sciences programs include student clinical rotations in external affiliate health care facilities with which Valenciahas agreements for student clinical assignments. The affiliates’ policies require that students serving in a clinical rotationbe cleared of offenses that would disqualify them from participating in student clinical assignments. Thus, all students in aprogram or degree concentration that requires a clinical experience must submit to a criminal background check,fingerprinting and drug screening as well as provide documentation of specific immunizations and CPR certification priorto participation in the clinical experience.If you have a positive background check, fingerprint or drug test, you may be denied enrollment in a Health Sciencesprogram due to the inability to participate in a student clinical assignment.
