An additional ESL course may also be required in the secondsemester for some students. The Nursing program has higher English proficiency requirements (TOEFL iBT 83, with a26 on the spoken section). If admitted to Berea with lower English proficiency, students will not be admitted to themajor until the required scores are achieved. Students will be given the opportunity to retest, however, students failingto meet the TOEFL iBT requirement by the first day of their third term of enrollment at Berea are ineligible to pursuethe Nursing major. If admitted to Berea with lower English proficiency, students will not be admitted to the major untilthe required scores are achieved.WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKET?A completed packet contains: Berea College International Application for Admissionand Scholarship. (completed and signed) Personal Essay and Essay Cover Sheet. (signed) IELTS, TOEFL, SAT or ACT report (paper copy) isrequired of all international applicants, including thosefrom English-speaking countries. You must provide acopy of your official test report as part of yourcomplete application packet, even if you haverequested an official copy be sent to Berea from thetesting center. A printed copy of your online reportmay be used so that you can submit your completedapplication by the deadline, but the official report mustbe submitted before you can be enrolled at BereaCollege. A minimum TOEFL score of 520 (paper-basedtest) and 68 (internet-based test) or IELTS score of 6.0is required of all successful applicants for admission toBerea College. Nearly all admitted students scoreabove 550 on the TOEFL (79 internet-based test or 6.5on the IELTS) with an average TOEFL score forsuccessful applicants of approximately 600 (100internet-based test or IELTS average score of 7.0).ACT (minimum: 19) and SAT (minimum: 980) are alsoaccepted in place of the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Due tothe length of time required to receive results and therequirement that test results must be submitted as partof the application, prospective international studentsare strongly encouraged to register for the exam as earlyas possible. Please note that because of the large volume of international applications we receive, we cannotmake exceptions to this requirement or extend thedeadline to accommodate late submission of scores.Certified copies of all academic records. These mustinclude all secondary school records, universitytranscripts, matriculation exams, and other leavingexams appropriate to your country. If at all possible,academic records should be translated into English.These copies should be certified by school officials.Personal Statement of Financial Circumstances.Berea College International Financial Questionnaire(IFQ). (completed and signed)International Financial Recommendation Form. Thisform should be completed by a school administrator,employer, religious leader, or someone who can make astatement about your personal and financial resources,as well as barriers, as they relate to your pursuit ofhigher education.Two Admission Recommendation Forms. Each letter ofrecommendation must be placed in an individualenvelope by the writer of the recommendation andsigned by him/her across the sealed flap. Wheneverpossible you should request that persons writingrecommendations on your behalf use the officialform(s). We will, however, accept writtenrecommendations, preferably typed, which are notwritten on, or accompanied by, our official form.Recommendations should be written in English.All of these documents and forms must be mailed together in one packet and received by the BereaCollege Office of Admissions by the November 30, 2020 deadline.
