Academic StandardsACADEMIC STANDARDSSTUDENT RESPONSIBILITIESStudents are responsible for fulfilling all admission, program,degree and graduation requirements. Students are responsiblefor adhering to college deadlines, attendance dates, and rulesand regulations published in this graduate bulletin. Studentsare also responsible for knowing and abiding by the collegeregulations that appear in other official publications and thoseposted on the bulletin board of the Office of the Registrar.CHANGE OF ADDRESSStudents must notify the Registrar of any change of address byfiling an official Change of Address form available online via theJay Stop website (http://jstop.jjay.cuny.edu). Failure to submitthis form may result in the loss or delay in delivery of importantcorrespondence.ENFORCEMENT AND APPEALThe Registrar is responsible for enforcing all academic rules.Appeals from enforcement of rules and regulations should bead- dressed to the Dean of Graduate Studies.GENERAL REGULATIONSCREDIT LOADFull-time graduate students normally register for 12 creditsper semester; part-time students normally take 6 credits persemester. Students employed full-time are advised to limitthemselves to no more than 6 credits per semester. Studentsmatriculated-with-conditions are expected to take 6 credits persemester. In exceptional circumstances, students may exceedor fall short of these limits with the permission of a graduateprogram director or the Dean of Graduate Studies.No student may register for more than 60 graduate creditsduring their graduate course of study at John Jay withoutthe approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies and the VicePresident for Enrollment Management, and then may onlyregister for courses needed for graduation. In addition, nostudent may register for more than 15 credits in a given semesterwithout the approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies.TIME LIMITAll master’s degree requirements in a specific program mustbe completed within eight years of the date of entrance intothat pro- gram. A student may refrain from matriculating forno more than four semesters within this eight-year period.Any exceptions to this rule must be based on very compellingextenuating circumstances and must be approved by the Deanof Graduate Studies or the Vice President for EnrollmentManagement.CLASS ATTENDANCEClass attendance and participation are factors in assessingstudent performance. Faculty will advise students at thebeginning of the semester of attendance requirements.12READMISSIONA student in good standing (i.e., with a GPA above 3.0), who hasnot registered for one or more semesters is required to file anapplication for readmission. This application is available fromthe Jay Stop website (http://jstop.jjay.cuny.edu).A readmission fee of 10 will be billed along with tuition andfees upon the first fall or spring semester when the student isaccepted for readmission. Readmitted students may be subjectto changes in curricular requirements instituted since their lastterm of attendance.
