Examination Program2019 YearbookThe success of the Association of Social Work Boards social work licensure examination programdepends on the hard work of volunteers, consultants, and contracted item writers committed topublic protection. Together, this diverse group of social workers helps to ensure that the ASWBexaminations remain valid and reliable.EXAMINATION COMMITTEEAppointed by the ASWB president, this group of subject matter experts meets up to four times a yearto review and approve test questions for use on the ASWB examinations. Examination Committeemembers are appointed from among ASWB item writers.Sharon Cutts, co-chair (CT)F/CaucasianClinical examinationSharon Cutts, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has beena clinical social worker for 29 years. She received herBSW from Penn State and her MSW from Smith CollegeSchool for Social Work. The first 16 years of her career,she worked in a range of settings, including a child guidance clinic,hospital emergency room, child welfare agency, and residential facilityfor adjudicated adolescent males. Her private practice is located inWethersfield, Connecticut. She works primarily with teens and adultsin individual, couple, and family modalities. Areas of expertise includeanxiety, depression, LGBT issues, and integration of spirituality andpsychotherapy.Adolpha Bassett, co-chair (NC)M/African AmericanMasters examinationAdolpha Bassett is a mental health clinician at JohnstonCounty Public Health’s behavior division in Smithfield,North Carolina. Adolpha holds a B.A. in psychology andan MSW. He has been a Licensed Clinical Social Workersince 2012. Areas of expertise include hospital and community mentalhealth practice with children and adults in crisis.Carl Hokanson, co-chair (MN)M/CaucasianBachelors examinationCarl Hokanson is the manager of the social workdepartment at a medical rehabilitation center in St. Paul,Minnesota, where he is also a direct service provider andsupervises BSW interns. He has 15 years of post-MSWexperience and is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in Minnesota. Hisareas of expertise include geriatrics and aging, case management, andmedical social work.Jessica Chatman (IL)F/African AmericanBachelors examinationJessica Chatman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker withnine years of experience. She graduated with a BSW andan MSW from Southern Illinois University–Carbondale.She is currently the clinical coordinator for a nonprofitbehavioral health company in Chicago. Areas of expertise includequality assurance, training, and accreditation for providers ofsubstance use treatment and community mental health treatment.Vicki Coy (NB)F/CaucasianClinical examinationVicki Coy is a Registered Social Worker with more than13 years post-MSW experience and 21 years of socialwork experience. She owns a bilingual private practicespecializing in grief, family violence, couples, andadjustment issues. Her previous work was at a military mental healthclinic, in family court, and in schools working mainly with teens. Vickistarted her involvement with ASWB in 2001 and has served on variouscommittees. She is currently the New Brunswick director with theCanadian Association of Social Workers.Rikki Davlin (ID)F/Native AmericanMasters examinationRikki Davlin received her MSW in 2009 and her clinicallicense in 2012. She has worked in many capacities,including a growing private practice working mainlywith survivors of trauma and emergency medical serviceworkers. Rikki also consults with local departments to help facilitatemental health programs for their crews.Tammy Dyson (BC)F/Caucasian Masters examinationTammy Dyson, MSW, Registered Clinical Social Worker inVancouver, British Columbia, currently works as the leaderfor the medical assistance in dying program for a largehealth authority. Tammy has worked in the field of endof-life care in British Columbia and the California Bay Area for morethan 22 years as both an educator and a consultant. She has taughtand facilitated topics related to end-of-life care, including advancecare planning and emotional care in the final days of life, and grief.Amanda Eagle (FL)F/African AmericanClinical examinationAmanda Eagle is a Licensed Clinical Social Workerwith more than 16 years of experience working withchildren and families in crisis. Amanda works with theHillsborough County DUI traffic safety school providingeducation/substance use assessments and maintains a small privatepractice, working primarily with at-risk youth. Lauren Henríquez-Bentiné (NY)F/Latinx/HispanicClinical examinationLauren Henríquez-Bentiné is a bilingual Licensed ClinicalSocial Worker at a school-based health clinic, where manyof the high school students are newly arrived immigrants.Lauren has worked in outpatient mental health clinics,a college disability services office, and an HIV case managementprogram. Her areas of expertise include trauma, self-harm, anddepression. Lauren has a small private practice. She graduated fromFordham University’s advanced standing MSW program in 2005 andearned her BSW from Lehman College in 2004.Julia López (MO)F/Latinx/HispanicBachelors examinationJulia López, Ph.D., is a public health researcher who uses herclinical practice skills to further advance the field of sexualhealth using public health theories and frameworks. Shehas used her clinical expertise as a licensed social workerin community mental health settings and substance use treatmentwith the research design and methodology for analyzing, interpreting,and disseminating data across myriad settings and populations.Rae Marsh (NC)F/African AmericanBachelors examinationRae Marsh is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who servesa middle and high school and runs a private practice parttime. She earned a BSW from North Carolina Agriculturaland Technical State University and an MSW from theUniversity North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Rae is a child welfare scholarwith expertise in crisis intervention with adolescents and families.Jil Meadows (NC)F/CaucasianMasters ExaminationJil Meadows lives in Asheville, North Carolina, and worksas a counselor at her alma mater, Warren Wilson College.She holds a B.A. in English from that school and an MSWfrom Smith College School for Social Work. She began hercareer more than 30 years ago in medical settings and then moved intothe area of therapeutic foster care. Marcy is currently seekingadvanced training in the emerging field of FDA-approved psychedelicassisted psychotherapy research.Trish Smith (AB)F/CaucasianClinical examinationTrish Smith is a Registered Clinical Social Worker witha private practice in Grande Prairie, Alberta. She is anapproved clinical supervisor with the Alberta College ofSocial Workers. Trish serves as a sessional instructor forthe University of Calgary with the faculty of social work, teachingin both face-to-face and online BSW programs. She also providesvideo telehealth mental health therapy for northern and remotecommunities in Alberta.Vanna Thuston (TX)F/African AmericanBachelors examinationVanna Thuston is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker andthe coordinator of the psych response case managementprogram with Memorial Herman Healthcare System inHouston, Texas. She oversees and leads a team of eightcase managers. Vanna specializes in mental health,primarily supporting patients in crisis and super-utilizers in the healthcare system. Her experience includes working with populations withserious mental illness, focusing on diagnoses of schizophrenia, bipolardisorder, major depressive disorder with suicidality and serious suicideattempts, and co-occurring substance use.

ITEM DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANTSThe association contracts with experienced social workers who work directly with item writers inthe creation of the questions that are presented to the Examination Committee. These consultantsalso attend Examination Committee meetings to gather feedback from the committee on the workof writers.Amanda Duffy Randall (NE)F/CaucasianNancy Sidell (PA)Bachelors examinationAmanda Duffy Randall, Ph.D., is clinically licensed and isthe director of the Grace Abbott School of Social Workat the University of Nebraska Omaha. She has taughtfor more than 32 years and maintains a private practiceworking with adolescents, adults, and families in the LGBT community.She is a past president of ASWB and former member of the NebraskaBoard of Mental Health Practice.Bynia Reed (MD)F/African AmericanClinical examinationBynia Reed earned her MSW from the University ofSouthern California, Los Angeles, and her bachelor’sdegree in psychology from Princeton University. Bynia’straining focused on early childhood development,attachment theory, and family mental health. She hasa private practice in Laurel, Maryland, where she focuses on playtherapy and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. Byniabecame an item writer for ASWB in 2007, was a member of the Clinicalexam committee, and served as Clinical exam committee co-chair in2009 and 2010.Monica Roth Day (MN)F/CaucasianMasters examinationMonica Roth Day received her bachelor’s in psychologywith a minor in counseling from the University of Iowa; herMSW from the University of Minnesota, Duluth; and herEd.D. from the University of Minnesota. Monica is a socialwork educator with 23 years of post-MSW experience and is currentlyan associate professor at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul,Minnesota. Monica became an item writer for ASWB in 2007, joinedthe Masters exam committee in 2010, and served as Masters examcommittee co-chair in 2013.F/CaucasianMasters examinationNancy Sidell earned her master’s degree from CaseWestern Reserve University and her Ph.D. from OhioState University. Nancy started her professional life as asocial worker in a nursing home and moved on to hospitalsettings, both community and teaching facilities. Nancy isa faculty member emeritus at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania,where she served as professor of social work and in severaladministration roles. She is currently a part-time faculty member forCapella University’s MSW program. Her areas of expertise includegerontology, rural issues, social work communication skills, andteaching pedagogy. She is the author of Social Work Documentation,2nd ed., published in 2015 by NASW Press.Greg Winkler (WI)M/CaucasianClinical examinationGreg Winkler, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is thebehavioral health division manager at Rock County HumanServices Department in Janesville, Wisconsin. These writershave joined a diverse writing network responsible for creating the test questions that are reviewedfirst by item development consultants and later by the Examination Committee.
