ESPN’s SC Featured followedtheir story.Hayes and Long wore second-hand clothing andmakeup was used to help conceal their identities.They were outfitted with small cameras andmicrophones, and an ESPN crew observed them.“Life on the Streets” will debut in the 10 a.m. ETedition of SportsCenter and will re-air in othereditions of the program throughout the day. My body hurts so bad right now.” –William Hayes.“It’s amazing though when that cop went to talk tome, just how unsettled that felt, compared to like ifa cop normally talks to me walking down thestreet.” – Chris Long.(www.wssu.edu)Come out and support the Rams .(Free Admission)*********************UNC Board of Governors Approves Cutsto Academic ProgramsWSSU News &InformationFormer WSSU Ram Goes Undercover forESPN FeatureTwo members of the NFL's St. Louis Rams willbe featured on the Sunday, May 31, editions ofESPN SportsCenter as they immerse themselves inthe homeless community of their city.When students at local UNC schools lookthrough course catalog this summer and fall, theywill find fewer offerings.The UNC board of governors voted Friday todiscontinue 46 academic degree programs andconsolidate 10 others across the UNC system. Thevote affects programs at Winston-Salem StateUniversity, UNC School of the Arts andAppalachian State University and will start with the2015-16 academic year.

Page 2The Weekly WireA statement released Tuesday by the UNCsystem's General Administration explained theprocess of degree discontinuation.The system periodically reviews programs thathave awarded fewer than 20 degrees in the past twoyears at the undergraduate level or fewer than 11degrees in the most recent year. This year, thesystem reviewed 221 degree programs across thestate.The News & Observer reports similardiscontinuations have occurred every two yearssince 1995.WSSU will discontinue its master’s degreeprogram in elementary education, and its bachelor’sdegree program in music, the university said.Students will still be able to minor in music.The school is also restructuring its master’sdegree program in teaching English as a secondlanguage and applied linguistics, combining it themaster’s program in teaching.WSSU had an average of eight students in itsmaster’s degree program in elementary education,said Nancy Young, a university spokeswoman.“We decided to place a moratorium onadmissions to this program that began with no newstudents being enrolled in fall 2013,” Young said inan email. “There had been a dramatic drop inenrollment, which we know was impacted by suchthings as stagnant teacher salaries.”The school also will restructure its bachelor’sdegree program in biotechnology, combing it withthe bachelor’s degree program in biology, logy program was 13 students a semester,Young wrote in her email.UNCSA will restructure its master’s degree infilm music composition, combining it with themaster’s degree program in filmmaking, theuniversity said.Last year, 11 students were enrolled in theschool’s film music composition program, saidLauren Whitaker, a university spokeswoman.Susan Ruskin, dean of the school of filmmaking,praised the composition program.The board of governors’ action last Friday “wassimply good housekeeping, tying up loose ends,”Ruskin said.ASU will discontinue its bachelor’s degreeprogram in family and consumer sciences(secondary education) and a bachelor’s degreeprogram in technology education, according to auniversity document.The average semester enrollment for the familyand consumer science program was 14 students,ASU said. Page 3The Weekly WireCountry Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field teams.The WSSU student-athletes were honored after theirstrong performances at the 2015 NCAA Division IIOutdoor Track & Field National ChampionshipMeet in Allendale, Michigan this weekend.Individually, four members of the team tookhonors with senior Tajanel McNeill and sophomoreTametris Morrison being named USTFCCCA FirstTeam All-Americans. McNeill earned the honor forthe second straight season after placing seventh inthe women's triple jump at 40' 3.5" (12.28m) whileMorrison placed fifth in the women's 400m hurdleswith a 59.22. Earning a spot on the 2015USTFCCCA Second-Team were senior sprinterNya Michaux after placing 12th in the women's200m dash with a 24.32 and junior sprinter RavenCovington who placed ninth in the women's 100mdash with an 11.82.It was in the relay events that WSSU really stoodout when both the women's 4x100m relay and thewomen's 4x400m relay team were both named 2015USTFCCCA NCAA Division II First Team AllAmericans. The 4x100m relay team finished secondin the nation with a 45.50 while the 4x400m relayplaced fifth with a 3:43.64.The honors cap a great outdoor track & fieldseason for the WSSU track & field program thatfinished 12th in the nation, the highest team finish inschool history.(www.wssuRams.com)jump, the team had its best national performance inschool history.The WSSU relay teams stole the show at themeet with a pair of top five finishes against the topcompetition in the nation. The WSSU 4x400m relayteam followed up the effort with a fifth-place finishin the event with a 3:43.64.Individually, sophomore Tametris Morrison wasone of several Lady Rams to have stellarperformances on the day. Before running the anchorleg of the 4x400m relay, she placed fifth in thewomen's 400m hurdles with a 59.22. Joining herwith a scoring performance of her own was seniorTajanel McNeill. After running the lead leg in thewomen's 4x100m relay that placed second in thenational finals, she wrapped up her career with aseventh-place finish in the women's triple jump.
