President’s College UpdateEmployee Appreciation/AwardsDinnerSaturday, December 2nd @ 5:30pmThe 2017 Employee Appreciation/Awards Dinner is scheduled to take place on Saturday,December 2nd at the Ralph Phillips Conference Center in Shelby, Ohio.This year’s event is free Staff, Faculty, and Adjunct Faculty.Employees will be able to pay 18 to bring a guest (one per employee).A cocktail reception will begin at 5:30pm with dinner served at 6:00pm followed by theawards presentation at 7:00pm. Entertainment during the cocktail reception and throughoutdinner will be provided by Pau Martin’s PM Jazz, as we have done in years past. There willbe an open beer & wine bar provided compliments of the North Central State CollegeFoundation.All Employees and their guests will require a ticket to participate in this year’s event.Employee Tickets and Guest Passes are available for pickup at the Cashier’s Office.Please only pick up a ticket if you plan to attend.The Cashier’s Office will accept cash, check, or credit card for the purchase of your guestpass.2

The contractor is waiting on the delivery of the new coolingtower that is scheduled for delivery on December 4.AccomplishmentsFacilities has been working on the Capital Re-appropriation documents for submission toOBR that needs submitted by December 1.Facilities continues working to increase safety and security awareness throughout thecampus.Facilities has been working with the IT department reformatting room 127 Fallerius forFYE classes.Kehoe facilities has been working on the college vehicle and equipment preparing them forwinter snow removal.Kehoe facilities has been preparing for shut downs during the holidays to conserve energy.3

The campaign will run through November 17, 2017 and thegoal is 6,000. After consulting with the facilitiesdepartment with regards to roof access and looking at the lowest bid, a meeting took placewith the College administrators. It was decided to move forward with the project.Internal Software Upgrade for Ricoh Copiers/Printers: IT department is in the process ofupgrading software on all Ricoh 301 printers. There have been many issues with theseprinters responding very slowly and this software upgrade to the printers will remediateissues people have been experiencing with the printers.Domain Controller Project: On Microsoft Servers, a domain controller (DC) is a servercomputer that responds to security authentication requests (logging in, checking permissions,etc.) within a Windows domain. The IT department is upgrading the operating system for theDCs to Windows Server 2016. The upgrade of the DCs will also require changing the namesof these servers to conventional industry names.AccomplishmentsBid Process Completed for Health Science Fiber Project: The network closet on theground floor of the Health Science building does not have enough rack space to meet therequirements for the IT upgrade in the building. A new wall mounted enclosed networkrack will be installed on the third floor of the building and connected to the networkcloset on the ground floor via a six pair fiber cable.Data Center Large UPS Maintenance: The UPS units in the data center had theirannual maintenance check from the manufacture and passed with no problems.GoalsAir Conditioning for Kehoe Center MDF: The IT department is working with facilitiesto get a separate air conditioning unit for the fourth floor MDF (main data facility)located at the Kehoe Center. Presently during the winter months the door to the MDFroom has to remain open because of the heat produced from network equipment.5

This includes generation of a new report assigning probabilities of retention toincoming post high school students in FA2017 for helping prioritize advising and othersupport services.AccomplishmentsMore debrief meetings for program review and data support with departments: Bioscience,Health Services Technology, Human Services.Up to date with CCP billings, including some updates based on new information received.Assisting Jim Hull with compiling accreditation data for PHTA.GoalsComplete summary sheets for all academic programs on outcomes.Assist team for Integrated Student Support Redesign.Financial Aid OfficeGood NewsThe financial aid office congratulates our V.P., Koffi Akakpo, on earning his doctorate.Jim, along with other staff and faculty, met to discuss improving personal interactions oncampus. We feel this can aid our responsiveness to customers, help our students todevelop the soft skills needed for post-graduation employment, and, in general, make fora more satisfying experience for all members of our college community. We encouragecomments and suggestions from all community members.AccomplishmentsJim and Caroline assisted at a FAFSA completion event last week at Mansfield ChristianHigh School.Amanda and Caroline are sifting through de-reg lists for spring semester. These identifystudents who have registered, but don’t have financial aid in place. We are contactingthose who have begun the aid process to remind them what’s needed to complete their aidfiles and are contacting those who haven’t filed for aid to suggest that they do so.6

Our program planning cycle keeps us on trackand provides the information needed to accomplish an informative grant. The CommunityAssessment and Annual Report are in draft and waiting for Policy Council andGoverning Board approval.7

President’s College UpdateFamily engagement is a collaborative and strengths-based process through which earlychildhood professionals, families, and children build positive and goal-orientedrelationships. It requires making a commitment to creating and sustaining an ongoingpartnership that supports family well-being. It also honors and supports the parent-childrelationships that are central to a child’s healthy development, school readiness, and wellbeing. Family engagement promotes positive, enduring change for children, families, andour community.Our program School Readiness goals and child assessment provided our program withdata to build on family engagement. We wanted to dig deeper into our data and provideopportunities for children and their families in partnership with our staff.On Thursday, November 9, our program coordinated a Literacy/Math Night for childrenand their families providing developmentally appropriate activities and experiencesaround literacy and math. On Friday, November 10, our staff received training onPromoting Literacy Development in Young Children. We are up 118 credit hours over last year and weare at 62% of our spring goal.GoalsReview and make adjustments to the Tuition Freedom Scholarship program. Review new andmore effective ways to contact and communicate with prospects and applicants.RegistrarGood NewsMet with Sheila Campbell on 11/16 to discuss auto awarding all certificates, not just the 30hour programs. This will add 30 certificates to review. If we are able to put this into effect,it could eliminate the need for students to petition for their certificates. We would justreview eligible candidates at the end of term, award the credential, post the credential to thetranscript and produce and mail the certificate the student.Brad attended an international student workshop in Columbus on 11/08/17. Sessions covereda variety of topics/issues related to different visa types. Many of the sessions revolvedaround H work visa topics.Attended Curriculum Committee meeting on 11/17/17. Several ITEC program changes werepresented for Networking and Cybersecurity. A new developmental English class thatcombines elements of reading and writing was also presented.Attended Calendar meeting on 11/14/17 to review and approve all important event/deadlinedates for the 18/19 college calendar.AccomplishmentsSRO staff are accessing the ODDEX website and are responding to any CCP data submissionissues submitted by high schools through this site. This was a concern offaculty from the Faculty Survey on advising completed in Fall. This compares to 416 drops by 233students at the same time last year. Input will be solicited froma number of offices during spring semester.The SSI (student satisfaction inventory) is set to be deployed again in spring semester.Sections will be randomly selected the first week of the semester and faculty will be notified.September 17, 18, and 19, the Higher Learning Commission will conduct an on-campusevaluation of our institution. This will be a component of the evidence HLC will use toreaffirm our accreditation.ODHE visited our campus November 7th, to evaluate the institution’s use and consistentmonitoring of Perkins funding. Jeff Gove the ODHE representative met with a number ofemployees.AccomplishmentsThe systems portfolio (our accreditation narrative) was submitted on November 6, 2017. Asmall celebration was conducted in the academic services director’s car. Loud music andseat dancing were involved.Lori Zeigler has evaluated a total of 1500 transcripts since she began as Academic ServicesCoordinator in 2015. Please note, this is no small feat, while organizing curriculumcommittee, taking minutes for a number of meetings, conducting an annual audit of allemployee credentials, as well as coordinating the submission of our OTM’s, TAG’s,CTAG’s. Please feel free to send her chocolate, or give her a pat on the back for all of herhard work.A special thank you to Liberal Arts for an enormous push in submission of OTM’s. Anotherspecial thank you also to all division AA’s for coordinating the self-reporting of facultycredentialing to Christie Bowie, AND a shout out to Christie for organizing these files.(These will be significant pieces of evidence, along with Lori Zeigler’s audit, to be submittedto HLC when they visit our institution in September 2018.)13

President’s College UpdateGoalsMarch 5th, 2018 Dr. Lisa Clark a peer reviewer from HLC will be visiting the Kehoe Center,and the Crawford Success Center to certify both locations for the coming five years.Narratives describing operations for each of these sites will be written before the end of thesemester.A centralized complaint process has been revisited several times in President’s cabinet. Thiscentralization is important for compliance with federal law.
