NECROMUNDA SURVIVAL EDITIONINTRODUCTIONNecromunda is a game of fierce combatbetween rival gang fighters in thedangerous underworld of theNecromundan hives.Your gang will also improve with time.Every time a gang fights, its membersgain in skill and experience. YoungJuves quickly progress to become fullgang fighters, and fighters learn newabilities which make them superiorcombatants.A hive is an ancient andincomprehensibly vast city, built uplayer upon layer, stretching ten milesinto the planet's atmosphere. To thosewho live in the depths the dark andruinous Underhive offers everyopportunity for wealth and power. Itscollapsed caverns conceal the riches ofthe distant past: rare and preciousmetals, unfathomable Archeotechdevices, wondrous mutated fungi andmuch more. It is also a place of danger, where mutant creatures, renegades andkillers hide from the laws of House andHive. And, of course, there are otherswho want the riches of the Underhivefor themselves.s leader becomes richer andhis followers ever more deadly, his famewill spread throughout the Underhive.Famous gunfighters and otherrenegades will come and seek him out, perhaps to join him, maybe to collectthe inevitable bounty that piles upon hishead!By recording the details of your gangyou can watch it grow from a bunch ofyoung hopefuls to hardened fightersfeared and respected throughout thedomes.Outside the hives the planet's surface iscovered by endless miles of toxic ashwastes and the atmosphere is sopolluted that it corrodes the hive'sarmoured walls.Above is a harsh sky and the sun's deadlylight. Beyond the planet itself is thewider galaxy and the great realm of theImperium of Man, an empire of amillion worlds held in thrall by theAdeptus of Earth. But such things arenothing but legends in the Underhivewhere sky and space, planets and eventhe ground itself are concepts so wildand abstract that many refuse to believethey exist.Out amongst the badzones the only lawsare those enforced at the point of a gun.The worst scum from the settlementswind up here, driven out for real orimagined crimes by other gangs, iratesettlers or vengeful guilders. They fightconstantly with the rats, mutants, plaguezombies and scavvies that populate thereeking acidic marshes and waste pits ofthe hive bottom. Every day is anightmare struggle for survival whichmakes settlement life look an Off-Worldholiday.Renegade ratskins, escaped pit slavesand mad wyrds wander the wastes andmay help or hinder other outlaws as themood takes them. Crazed bands ofRedemptionists mount crusades againstthe forces of darkness who are inplentiful supply downhive, thoughfanatic zeal of the red brethren normallymakes them outlaws too. But though theRedemption are far from kindly in theirministrations the outlaw scum of thebadzones dread the spyrers more thananything else.Every outlaw's greatest fear is to behunted down and slain like an animal,to be mutilated for trophies anddismembered for sport by the Spyrers.Page 2 of 361

NECROMUNDA SURVIVAL EDITIONIllegal trade posts and banditstrongholds are scattered throughoutthe Badzones amongst the sumps andmounds of refuse and slag. Here thedregs of the Underhive rub shoulders, fight and kill one another while theytrade their hard-won spoils for women, drink, guns, drugs and information. Thenight trains travel areas too polluted tobe settled and these heavily armedcaravans will trade with mutants orRatskins as readily as anyone. Everyonein the Badzones is fighting to keep whatthey have and claw as much as they canfrom those about them. Enslavement, disease, misery, madness and death lurkin the shadows to seize anyone tooweak, stupid or alone to survive. The further you travel downhive, theharsher it gets. This maxim is wellknown through the hab-zones and is arule that many people live by - it gives areal meaning to the idea of "moving upin the world".Needless to say, moving down the hiveisn't usually a good thing, though forsome it's that or the wrong end of arope, so the choice is easy. Eventually, you move so far down the hive that yougo beyond the reach of the law. Ofcourse, this may be the whole point ofyour exodus in the first place.Out in these desperate deadzones life ischeap, and generally short, but if youcan carve yourself a reputation there is aliving to be made.THE RULEBOOKThis book, the Necromunda rulebook, contains the rules of the game. Youdon t need to learn all the rules to play, but we suggest you read through therulebook before attempting your firstgame. The most important rules aresummarised on the separate playsheets, and you ll quickly find these are all youneed in most situations. For moredetailed rules and to resolve morecomplex situations, you can always referto the rulebook itself.Combined within this compendium arethe rules for The OutlandersCommunity Edition which is based onthe Necromunda: Outlanderssupplement published in 1996. It alsoincludes The Heist scenario and PitSlave Gang rules from White Dwarf. TheOCE is not an attempt to overhaul orhugely expand the original rules, insteadit's intended to be a fan update to analready solid set of rules. The main aims are to balance the varietyof Outlander gangs using minimalrewrites where possible and to fullyincorporate the NCE ruleset. Also toclarify ambiguities, patch up rule holesand make minor tweaks and additionsto improve general gameplay.TABLETOP CONFLICTThe Necromunda game allows you tofight conflicts between rival Underhivegangs on the tabletop. The opposinggangs are represented by models, assembled and painted by yourself, eachrepresenting an individual gang fighter. You'll find more information about thedifferent cultures and peoples ofNecromunda in the later sections of thisbook. Your tabletop becomes a part ofthe Underhive, the scene of the action, with ruined buildings, gantries andmulti-level walkways. The aim of the game is to outfight youropponent, which requires a mixture ofskill and luck. You'll soon learn how toarm and equip your gang efficiently, andhow to exploit the ruins and otherterrain to your best advantage. You'llalso want to expand your gangs beyondthe models provided in the game. Manymodels are available for the differentgangs and new models are coming outall the time. With these you can expandPage 3 of 361

NECROMUNDA SURVIVAL EDITIONyour collection, equip fighters withdifferent weapons and add morepowerful characters.WHAT IS THESURVIVAL EDITION?WHAT YOU WILLNEEDMODELS!The NSE is not an attempt to overhaulor hugely expand the Necromundauniverse, instead it's intended to be afan update to compile the three separaterulebooks of the NecromundaCommunity Edition, OutlandersCommunity Edition and InquisimundaRulebook into a single compendiumwhilst adding more realism to the game.Games of Necromunda are fought outusing model fighters, eachapproximately 28mm tall. Before playingyou need enough models to assemble acomplete gang as detailed later in therules. A large variety of different modelsare available various vendors. There are three main aims to thisproject.Special templates are used to determinethe effects of many weapons. Forexample, grenade and shell bursts, andthe gout of burning fire projected by aflamer. To provide more realism andbrutality to the weapons andskills alongside minor tweaks toimprove general gameplay. To clarify ambiguities andstreamline rules. And finally to introduce anappropriate sense of scale to thegame.BUILDING THE GANGEvery time you play Necromunda youearn the opportunity to improve yourgang. By winning games you gainterritory, discover ancient artifacts, uncover mineral wealth, and so on. Withthis wealth you can buy more weaponryand hire more gang fighters.TEMPLATESThe templates used are thediameter blast markers and the StandardFlamer Template.WHAT ELSE YOU WILLNEEDIn addition to the game componentsmentioned above you will need two ormore players and a firm, level tabletopor area of floor. A kitchen table will dofine. Some gamers make their owngaming tables from a sheet of chipboardor something similar. Such a table canbe slightly larger than the table ortrestles that support it, and can bedivided into two or more pieces for easeof storage.DICEA variety of different dice are used in theNecromunda game, as follows. You will need at least one retractabletape measure marked in feet and inches. All distances in Necromunda are givenin Imperial units.Page 4 of 361

NECROMUNDA SURVIVAL EDITIONFrom left to right: Two D6 s, a scatterdice, and an artillery dicedice, instead a D3 means roll a D6 andhalve the result rounding up.Pens and pencils, and plenty of paperwill also be required. When you play agame you will need to keep track ofwounds suffered by your fighters, theweapons they are carrying, and otherdetails. This is most easily done using aroster sheet, an example of which isincluded in this book. We recommendthat you copy or photocopy additionalroster sheets and use them to recorddetails during the game. We l explainmore about roster sheets and how touse them later in this book. So, for a D3, a roll of a 1 or 2 1, a rollof 3 or 4 2 and a roll of 5 or 6 3.s) aremarked 1 to 6 in the usual way. Thesedice are used a lot during play and tosave space on charts they are alwaysreferred to as D6 (where D stands fordice). So, when the rules call upon youto roll a D6 we are simply asking you toroll a dice. D6 1 means roll a dice andadd 1 to the score. 2D6 means roll twodice and add the scores together toobtain a score of 2-12.The Scatter dice is marked with fourarrows and two HIT symbols. This diceis used to determine where grenadesand shells land if they miss their target, scatter . The dice can be used toestablish any random direction from apoint. Note that the HIT symbol also hasa small arrow on it to facilitate this.RE-ROLLSSometimes you may be offered thechance to re-roll a dice throw. This isexactly what it sounds like, pick up thedice and roll them again. You mustaccept the result of the second roll evenif it's worse than the first roll and rerolled dice cannot ever be re-rolled asecond time. Note if you re-roll a single2D6 or D66 roll then both dice must rerolled. For example, when taking a Leadershiptest you cannot re-roll just one of thedice, both dice must be re-rolled.HALVING VALUESSometimes you may need to halve avalue, in which case fractions are alwaysrounded up e.g. a fighter with a WeaponSkill of 5 that finds himself inside asmoke cloud must halve his WeaponSkill to 3.The Artillery dice is marked 2, 4, 6, 8, 10and MISFIRE. This dice is used inconjunction with the Scatter dice todetermine how far shells land from theirmark. A MISFIRE result can result in ashell proving dud or even exploding inthe breach. In some cases, you will also findreferences to a dice called a D3. Theret actually any such thing as a 3sidedPage 5 of 361

NECROMUNDA SURVIVAL EDITIONTHE RULESCHARACTERISTICSCHARACTERISTIC PROFILEThe Underhive fighters of Necromundahave wildly varied martial skills andphysical abilities. Some are faster thanothers, some are stronger, some moredetermined, some are better shots, andso forth. This tremendous variety is fullyrepresented in the form ofcharacteristics and special skills. Rightnow we won t worry about the specialskills as these come later with practiceand battle experience.A mode s characteristic values arewritten in the form of a convenient chartwhich we call his characteristic profile.Below is the average profile for aGanger .Ganger – GRUM DOGWS BS S T WI33 3 3 1 3A1Ld7When you raise your first gang it willinclude many gangers with exactly thisprofile. As you fight games against otherplayers your fighters will get better andtheir characteristics will rise. All thesedetails are recorded using your gangrosters. This is explained properly lateron. For now it s enough to know whatthe characteristics are and how thevalues vary. Each model fighter is defined by theircharacteristics which are assigned avalue of between 1 and 10. The highervalue your model has for anycharacteristic the better it is, forexample, a model with a Strength of 6 isstronger than a model with a Strength of2.Descriptions of the characteristics aregiven below.Weapon Skill (WS): Weapon Skill isa measure of close combat ability andhow good the person is at hand-to-handfighting.Ballistic Skill (BS): Ballistic Skillshows how good a shot the person is.When you shoot a gun the chance ofhitting a target depends upon yourBallistic Skill.Strength (S): Strength simplyshows how strong a person is! Strengthis especially important when you fighthand-to-hand combat because thestronger you are the harder you can hitor thrust.Toughness (T): Toughness is ameasure of how easily an individual canwithstand a hit from a weapon or a blowfrom a club, hand weapon or fist. Thetougher you are the harder you are towound or kill.Wounds (W):s Wounds valueshows how many times a fighter can bewounded before he collapses and goesdown dead or incapacitated. Mostindividuals have a Wounds value of only1 but tough veteran gangers might havea value of 2 or more.Initiative (I): The Initiative valuerepresents alertness and reaction speed.s chance ofdodging a sudden blow or gathering hiswits while shells and bombs explodearound him.Attacks (A): The Attacks valueindicates the number of Attack dicerolled when the model fights in hand-tohand combat. The more dice you rollthe more chance you have of beatingyour opponent!Leadership (Ld): Leadershiprepresents raw courage and self-control.Page 6 of 361
